Right after winning the above-mentioned competition, it was right back to work.
I wanted to focus on the hands in this one, so I got as close up as I could. One thing I like about drawing cyborgs/gynoids/androids is that I have a little more freedom to play around with skin tones, and got to really exaggerate the greens, yellows and reds.

The face started out pretty well, building it up from clumps of shadow, but as I got to the body, I began to fall out of that workflow, and focused more on worrying more and more about specifically planning and outlining everything, which I feel is weaker.

As a pretty big fan of Lou Reed and the work he’s done over the years, it’s pretty sad to see him go.
I wanted to do this piece for a while, but it was always pretty intimidating. I ended up having trouble with the hair, and I feel that the image straddles the uncanny valley a little too closely in some places. However, I’m glad overall how it came out.

I originally wanted to do something similar to the cover art of “Coney Island Baby,” my favourite solo album of his (my favourite thing he’s ever done being “Songs for Drella”), but I felt that the photograph for that album was so perfect that there was nothing I could do with it that wouldn’t be a disservice. Instead, I opted to do an image based on the later period of his life.

The portrait above is pretty darn good although i don't tend to enjoy pictures of Photographs. Weirdly it's the texture and tone in the neck i am drawn to, not sure why.

Of the original artwork Overall i find myself enjoying the feminine figures far more. The two of the Downton Abbey looking girl i find particularly good.

I don't know if it's coincidence or maybe a lack of enthusiasm for masculine characters on your part but i find the male figures more static and less convincing.

I should also praise you for some of the novel ideas from a design standpoint. I am reminded of the movies of Tarsem Singh, Jean Paul Gautierre's work and the art from Ominkron: The Nomad Soul(which i think David Bowie had a hand in).

Still not sure what to do to finish this one off. Thinking about giving him a dueling partner.

Now in colour. Now I just have to put it all together, but I'm just not sure what to use for a background. I'm still on the fence about a sci-fi or fantasy setting, and that's just the beginning of my problems.

So it’s been a long while since my last post. But that time is not without results.

First, a fortuneteller and his camel(ishcreature). This one took a very long time to produce, mostly because I kept going back and forth on a lot of different ideas in the painting phase. Overall, however, I’m fairly happy with the piece, and I’m quite fond of those happy little clouds.

Second, it’s been a long time since I’ve ever drawn a mecha. I don’t show off much lineart anymore. Maybe I should more often. Not sure if I’ll paint it in yet.

Lastly, good old Gordon got a bit of a nose job, in addition to a few other tweaks. This has always been one of my favourite pieces, so updating it to fix some issues that should have been corrected the first time around was a pretty easy decision. Besides, an assassin should always look her best when on the job.

I always figured that what's coming out of his chest would raise more alarms...

It's been a while since my last update, but I've been working all the while. For all that time, I've got a lovely double feature.

First up, it's a robot prostitute that's in a bit of a messy situation. The idea was that it was supposed to be an outdated, low-grade sex bot that had been abused throughout the years, having recently developed a sense of consciousness, and realizing that it wasn't happy with its predicament. Things escalate from there. Probably one of the darker things I've drawn.

Full Size

Next up, my most recent product, a revamped version of the Cyborg Zombie all the way back from my first post. It's been 7 months since that first drawing, and I'd say that there's been considerable improvement during that period.

You have a gift. This stuff is fantastic.

Any high name projects you've leant concept art to? It's reminiscent of some of the cooler video game concept arts I've seen feature on Kotaku but I can't seem to pin down if I've stumbled across you work before or not.

Nope, nothing yet. In fact, with these last few pieces, I think I might have finally reached a point where I can start to look for work.

Lineart for what will be part of a much bigger project. I wanted him to look like his form is shifting back and forth between animal and plant-like features. I really want the line art to be a major part of the finished image, so I wanted to build up as much shape and texture as I possibly could.

Here's the finished version. I opted not to fully paint everything in, and rather keep things focusing on the linework.

Additionally, here's another character that was originally meant for the image, but was cut out for not working with the composition (I end up developing a lot of assets in a single image separately in order to conserve memory, since my file sizes are huge).

Working off the lineart posted above, this guy was an absolute pain in the ass to draw, but also ended up being pretty fun. I ended up using a different method for this image than usual, I feel it turned out well. Managed to finish it just before moving.

Glad you like it. That said, as awesome as getting my work turned into miniatures would be, well that's something I'd love to do, I'm not exactly a sculptor. Not to mention that I doubt there'd be a huge market in miniatures for my work.

Anyway, here's Ha Satan. Partly inspired to do this one because of my disappointment in Kingdom Death's interpretation, and partly because I've had this idea floating around in my head lately. That said, this is more based on the idea of Old Testament Satan, where it's an angel of judgement, rather than a devil. I really love just how open Biblical mythology is for artistic interpretation, and I'd really like to do more angels. I'm thinking my next one will be Metatron.

In Biblical mythology, Metatron, transformed from the human, Enoch, is described as being the heavenly scribe, and the most powerful of the angels. He's wreathed in flame and storms, and has 36 wings, and on those wings, 365 eyes, each one as bright as the sun.
I'd say that my interpretation is a little more conservative. He only has ten eyes and four wings, but extra arms to make up for it. Instead of heavenly vestments, his body is composed of a mass of flowing, interlocking arteries that pump celestial flame through his body.
He's probably the most difficult character I've ever designed, simply because he's supposed to be so unnatural.

I really like your stuff. That full version of the organic warrior/samurai/knight thing is stunning. I can kind of imagine them almost dancing over a warping/floating landscape with those legs. Guardians of some strange realm.

Are they meant to be constructs of some other godly being or are they their own type of life?

Angels. The one you're referencing is Samyaza, first of the Grigori (angels that fell from heaven in order to have sex with human women). He, and the other angels I've designed (Ha Satan and Metatron), are based on the idea of them being closer to eldritch abominations than what you'd see in classical depictions. I'll be doing more interpretations like this. My next angel will be Lucifer.

As for what's next, I figured I had been drawing a lot of really weird things lately, so I decided to take a break from weird stuff, and just do a little self portrait.

Ah right. Yeah they've definitely got that horrific vibe more than classic angelic.

Self portrait is wonderful.

Really organic looking.

Originally known has Helel, Lucifer was originally associated with the planet Venus (the 'Morning Star'), and various older deities representing it. It wasn't until after the 5th century that Lucifer began to be linked with the idea of a fallen angel or devil, let alone Satan.
This interpretation of Lucifer represents him as a fallen angel. But instead of depicting him as a standard force of evil, I decided to look at him as deity fallen from grace and a philosopher who's curiosity and ambition for truth ultimately caused his fall. He questions his own will, intellect, and limitations. Above all, he questions morality, and whether the world he inhabits can be just.

In Biblical mythology, Sandalphon, also known as the Leader of the Ophanim, or Thrones, order of angels, is compared as a twin brother to Metatron. He's the largest of the angels, and represents fertility, and is linked with femininity. His main roles include deciding the sex of an unborn child, as well as collecting the prayers of humans.

What's with the sexual imagery like I don't get what that has to do with the character.

It was supposed to be reminiscent of a Ram's skull (with the 'tubing' going into it looking like horns). And then things just got weird.

Thank you for sharing your art. I find it fascinating. At first I was drawn to your "proper" art, like the girl on the camel and your assassin Felicita, but now I am enjoying your efforts on the Angels. Keep it up!
