Very true. Still don't know yet though.

But this is GW doing Something (or nothing)!

CLEARLY it is bad! Because it is GW doing (or not doing) something!
GW try very hard to make sure everything they do has something bad in it, they can't do anything good without also doing something bad. If GW gave out free puppies, they'd force you to watch every 2nd one die a slow and painful death and cut a leg off each of the survivors before they let you take them home.

For all we know they could be full of virgin SoB/AS blood if there are any GKs in the area...

As for alternatives there are always Pegasus Hobbies

I have 3 boxes of Chemical Plants I've had for a few years, might be time to pull them out. Was going to use them to do some conversion on my SoB/AS Immolators.

I have never seen a kit with so much in it as you get with these kits, there is literally no room left in the box and for what you get for the price it's really cheap as well.
So if you want to do your own you can get one of these kits, some pvc pipe and I'm sure you can make something really cool.

The reason is limited edition box of some pipes, then limited edition box of VSG and some pipes, then limited edition box of 2 VSG with some pipes, then limited edition box of 3 VSG with some pipes.

All limited editions, all the time!

Not quite. The 40k building kits were the real start of this,

and ever since then it's been getting more and more over the top

To the point of absolute ridiculousness

Now it's all skulls and all eagles, all the time. As the skull-encrusted eagle-phallus-cannon demonstrates aptly.

Honestly, it's just embarrassing at this point. Then again, my own tastes for this sort of stuff is a little more understated.

To be fair, I do like their practical-looking kits, like the Bastion, the Aegis defence line and the (discontinued) Skyshield Landing Pad.

I'm sorry, but what's "embarrassing" about it? The price? Sure. The limited edition nonsense? Of course.

But the aesthetic? That's subjective. You can't make it out like they've done something really "wrong" with the design of this piece. The promotion and sales method, sure, but the actual piece itself.

You don't like it. That's fine, but that's all. It's not bad, you just don't like it.

And is the Skyshield discontinued? Still available on GWOZ.

Actually, I find much of the current aesthetic embarrassing. Moreso than the price, and the LE thing isn't so much embarrassing but stupid. Sure, it's a personal subjective thing, but yeah, embarrassing is the word I'd use. It just seems really more and more towards young teens who presumably think skulls and eagles on everything looks cool. I'm thinking of getting the Sigmar's Blood WFB scenery collection because I want the other stuff (at least the over-skulls on the other kits are smallish), but this thing makes me a little embarrassed, unless I can figure out a way to make it look less ridiculous without an enormous amount of work I'm not sure I'd be able to use it.

There's still lots I like of course, and I'm not obliged to buy any of the items that I dislike. But yes, embarrassed is how I'd feel about having those toys on my table, as opposed to the other toys that I like.

If the pipes are a plastic sprue and reasonably priced, then fine - they'll be useful for other things too, e.g. combining with manufacturium bits for making industrial terrain, engines for super-heavy vehicles, etc.

If they're resin, then they will quite deservedly sell even worse than the void shield generators.

Even more ridiculous is that the pipes are not going to be limited while the VSG was

I wonder if the rumors of them using up their finecast resin on the VSG would be true, only to come out with plastic non limited edition later

$35 for something I suspect you can replicate for less than $10 or so at a any home store like Lowe's.

I strongly suspect Games Workshop would like more of the "failure" that the void shield generators apparently represent - i.e; selling out of their entire stock within minutes before it was even properly available.

Huh? You say that as if they barely moved any, when their entire stock was sold out in record time.

And given that I own three Void Shield Generators, I'm looking forward to this kit, as it'll definitely make for a good purchase for me.

They sold so bad that they were sold out in 8 minutes. Your logic is flawed.

Anyway, that price is to high for a pair of pipes

But you'll probably need more than one set of the pipes unless you want to put the generators 6" apart from each other - that image in the first post definitely uses more than two 6" pipes and two elbows...

The annoying part of the Void Shield generators being sold out so fast is, as soon as people got them a lot went on eBay with ridiculous price hikes for being ltd edition.I've seen dozens on eBay- one going for 500 pounds I doubt the pipes will be ltd edition.

I kind of like the 40k aesthetic when it's used on buildings and such... Even the artillery piece, above. It's a fixed building, and the Imperium as described seems to be pretty heavy on manpower and so focused on war that it fits that every guard tower is almost a shrine. Covering a fixed defense post in symbols and other details is fitting.

I just think it's a little goofy on vehicles and power armor where mobility is a concern... I prefer a more realistic aesthetic, especially for Guard where the IG units that are more 'practical' oriented (Cadians, Catachans, DKoK) still use some heraldry, but don't waste time building a giant skull-shrine into the front of a tank that is going to get shot all the time. Other classic IG regiments have their own individual aesthetics guidelines... Mordians and similar should certainly have some ornamentation, and some of the IG regiments mentioned in Dan Abnett's books might be really weird.

In general, I think the 40k aesthetic for the Imperium should be a sort of quasi-steampunk mix of baroque detail and practical, over-engineered brutal stuff. Getting it right is tough, and subjective.

The Skull Mansions is just silly, though.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

I dont know what to think about the estethics of late.

I dont find it annoying.
I can get the concept of a dark baroque estethic; the essens of baroque beeing vulgar and overdone in the ambition to make it epic.
I also get that the modern technology with computer sculpting etc make possible designs impossible not to long ago, and I get they want to use that.

At the same time, its abit like george lucas being overimpressed with new technology and foolishly think he can finally do his vision justice and do the saga so much better.
I dont know, perhaps Im to "young" in the hobby to be appaled by the modern kits.
