I still can't get why some people are so OCD about the shapes of homemade asteroids so exactly matching the irregular shapes that the X-Wing game comes with. Other than for possible tournament reasons, it is absolutely not that big a deal.

The bottoms of the GW flying bases I use for my homemade asteroids (re-purposed from BattleFleet Gothic) from have just as much impact upon gameplay. If anything, the absolutely regular shape of the bases makes it absolutely cut and dry where each "asteroid" begins and ends in all directions.

Sorry, but I feel a Kickstarter for what's effectively a bunch of rocks on a plastic rod is somewhat silly. Sell em on eBay or something.

Well, on the positive side, the project risk of not finding enough rocks and bases are minimal

The first 2 kickstarters he rolled out looked pretty awesome but a tad on the expensive side for what you got pledgewise. For some reason he bailed on the first attempt (which did actually make it somewhere near funded) And the second attempt suffered the consequences of that, and ran out of time.

a couple of things

i didn’t bail on the 1st KS. i didn’t really know how KS really worked & it turned into a complete noodle ball by the time i got my head round it.
plus a guy in the U.S wanted to sue me (long story)

2nd KS i got the pricing wrong, due to not having a laser cuter &doing it through a 3rd party to get the prototypes done.

so I’ve gone back to basics
people want good quality stuff at a good price which will get the ball rolling.
on the laser cutter fund

once i have a LC i will have the software to price the walkways correctly

walk before you can run

Is the "location socket" something that comes standard with the flying stands?

That's a feature this campaign is offering that you wouldn't get by just gluing a rock on a stem... these are removable, which seems like it would be very useful.

Not saying it's earth shattering, but that is something I'm going to want if I ever make my own asteroids or buy these later.

Asteroids come in sets of 8 or Asteroids MkII come in sets of 6 ,they are various shapes & sizes which are pre-painted ,with an individual flying base & a location socket. For ease of storage & transportation.

yes the location socket is glued securely the the bottom of the Asteroids
then you just push the flying stand peg into the location socket (no gluing need)

when you played your game & pack it all away you just pul the peg out for easy storage

i wouldnt say there would be any issues as there completly washed & sealed when undercoat before being painted

You all gave me a hard time about my Asteroids KS at the start ,with battlefield in a box's asteroid already being sold
i just though i'd post this comment left on my KS last night

Heh...now we are just another Mega Bundle away from the freebie stretch goal.

Just for giggles, I did the math on these asteroids vs the Gale Force Nine asteroid Battlefield in a Box (8 asteroids, 3 with flight stands) and even with UK shipping to the States, this KS is by far the cheaper way to go.

Add to that the fact that you get flight stands for all the asteroids (black or clear option), you have various sizes and styles of asteroids to choose from, and you have four color choices, this is by far the better deal in my opinion.

I'll have enough asteroids after this KS to run multiple demo and tournament tables of Robotech RPG Tactics or any other starship game that strikes my fancy. I've got tons of Star Wars and Star Trek ships waiting for me to find a good, generic, space, table top system for their use.

For the price, and the amount of options, this looks a far better way to get rocks-on-sticks.
My lot are still working out what we want, but I'm sure you'll see an order coming along soon enough.
