Spot colour will be on the banner. Theme here is a "hero" but the banner will be him touting a message of submission or destruction. Leaning on the Sin City vibes of even heroes being corrupt and violent. A noble looking figure as the messenger of a corrupt message.

Whilst the prospect of the painting side of it is very intimidating, I just had to do it - love the Sin City comics, and I thought I could have fun with this. Having batted around a couple of ideas - painting up Gaunt, doing a chaos marine in 4 sins - I decided that there was really one thing I could do - a femme fatale, a stripper in the 40k verse:


Not sure about spot colour yet. Following the wife's advice, she'll be on a raised, round podium.

I should really have read the guidelines properly before blindly jumping in. I've never even seen Sin City and even if I did theres no chance I could convert up an appropriate model in this timeframe. I mistakenly thought the idea was just greyscale painting so Im just gonna drop out and walk away from this one.

You wouldn't really need to have seen it. It's just grey-scale with a single spot color. It doesn't have to be Sin City themed, could just be a grey marine with bright red eyes or similar.

Yeah WM is right the theme may be Sin City but it's more about the application of the grey scale painting than an actual themed model.

Hey Damo, see that base Graven is using. Can I use two of them side by side to create a 50x50mm square base?

I'm in should be fun, need to google Sin City to see what this spot colour thing is all about.

So I have primed it black and drybrushed white to highlight the details, Also added some hair to the head I picked out.....



Yours are all looking predictably brilliant, was hoping to gain a little in the modelling for my bad paintwork, but thats out the window by the look of it.

Just made a good point about the spot colour in Cam's thread and thought I'd share it here for everyone that's struggling with the single spot colour concept (or anyone else for that matter).

The point of the colour is to emphasize one element and draw your attention to that item. So it depends on what impression you want to give for the character (what is important to him/her, or tells you about them).

e.g. if they have pretty eyes then give them coloured eyes (although that's probably pointless at this scale).

If skin colour is important, an Ork for example, give him green skin.

If they carry around a favourite item that they hold dear, give that the colour.

Or if they are the kind of person to get "messy" in a fight, give them a splash of red blood.

I bashed out mine over the weekend, do we put the finished pics in this thread?

I'm going to loose lots of points due to no converting etc but hope the painting does the mini justice.

Simply put! there's some fantastic ideas and work already being put forth I'm really enjoying the discussion and ideas you have really put your thinking caps on for this one and i'm grateful for the efforts. you may post your finished pics on the thread if you wish which is a good lead in for what I want you to do when submitting them!

I would like ALL finished images that you see fit to showcase your model emailed to me at my address hondaboy999@hotmail.com with your name and Dakka handle so I can collate them for the finals. images need to be CLEAR and of a decent cropped size so we can really tell the work you've lavished onto them preferably a backdrop of either plain black or plain white also will be required.

I will then email a collection of the finished entrants to the other judges for scoring and the fun shall begin!
