I would hope so, seeing as they are supposed to be Word Bearers.
I had a look at the box set today, my flgs has about twenty.
If I was still playing GW, and had people to play with, I would totally get it.

I am split. I have always chosen armies based on their visual appeal and am stuck between Alpha Legion and the Sons of Horus as they are both shades of blue/green which I enjoy immensely.
I am leaning more towards the Alpha Legion (and not because of the 30k popular bandwagon) as I have always liked the Alpha Legion since the 3rd edition chaos codex (deep blue with green blends). I also love their pre-heresy colors of metallic teal and their dragon symbols.

Way back in the CSM of yesteryear when there was benefits to choosing a particular legion, I played Ironwarriors with their four heavy support choices and basilisks. I've loved the legion for a long time, and when I read my first BL book "Storm of Iron" I only loved them more. As a diehard Imperial the chance to play loyalist IW or pre heresy Perturabo is a chance I'm not gonna pass up!

I have 2 boxes. The 1st box, I'm painting as the game is presented, Ultras vs Word Bearers.
The 2nd box is still undecided. I'm not sure if I want to make 2 even sized Ultra and WB forces for bigger board game battles (and small TT matches) or if I want to start up an Alpha Legion force.

I decided to use the BaC box to start a Word Bearers army. The rules seem pretty fun, the legion rules seem pretty balanced, I've got an endless trove of Tyranid bits I could use for some Darkly Channeled marine conversions, and I've got a greater Daemon and a Daemon Prince to use for the Allied detachment.
But I aint using that fugly color scheme.

That's probably the reason, there's nothing in BaC that really yells 'White Scars', The Dread doesn't fit, and the Termies with Slow'n'Purposeful don't realy work for the Scars either.
That and painting white...

It's not so much 'popular belief' that they don't use them, rather that the Index Astartes article explicitly stated they don't use them and gave a good reason why which a lot of people feel should still stand. It's less of an issue for Great Crusade/Heresy era however because you'd still likely have Terran Dreadnoughts in the legion.
As for Slow and Purposeful Terminators being unfluffy.. that doesn't really make any sense to me, yes it's slow and cumbersome but so is regular Terminators, it's not as if a every White Scar Terminator is close to a neurotic breakdown because his armour is so slow, and Cataphracts extra slowness will push them over the edge.
White Scars are on my to-do list, but not til I've gotten the hang of painting white. I've voted Iron Warriors because they are the one legion I both want to do AND can paint the colour of. Though come to think of it I did do some abysmal *white* Iron Warriors back in 2nd edition, as that was their pre-heresy colour they were listed as in Codex Imperialis.

Indeed, I've got WDs from the 90s with AAR featuring Scars in them, and they had dreadnoughts even back then.

Other than their Primarch's name and a few notable battles the White Scars didn't have much fluff before the 3rd edition Index Astartes article, wherein the chapter specific rules did not allow Dreadnoughts because: "Dreadnoughts are not employed by the White Scars, as the cold, metal sarcophagi of these mighty constructions evokes a horror of eternal confinement that goes against the White Scars` philosophy that when a warrior dies, his soul should be free to travel to the afterlife."
The IA did allow them to take Terminators but they had to be mounted in a Land Raider - and Land Raiders couldn't be taken unless Terminators were.
DocStammson wrote:I wanted to do Iron Hands. Would it make sense to do them in MK IV from the Betrayal at Calth box? In fluff does the legion use MK IV at all?
Yes. Pretty much every legion used every armour to varying amounts. Conquest only had three profiles of power armoured Iron Hand marines and it was an even spread: one each of II, III & IV.

I marked Imperial Fists, but that is because the answer "Stare at the models and never make a decision" was not a choice. I like the Imperial Fists legion rules, but they play exactly the same as, unsurprisingly, my Crimson Fists. I don't want to make a new Blood Angels army unless their legion rules are amazing, because their 40K rules are terrible. The other big choices for me would be Night Lords (probably not going to happen since they are dark blue marines like my Crimson Fists), Salamanders (usable in 40K as well, and a pretty cool army overall), or Raven Guard (especially given their new 40K rules being pretty amazing).
Ultimately, if I decide on an army, I would want it to be able to pull double duty as a 40K army. This is why most of the Traitor Legions are out of the picture.
