I also don't really think that the denizens of this board are really the target audience for this product.

This is a minimum cost fishing trip tie-in to the game to see if some of the online gamers that aren't currently immersed in the tabletop game can be enticed to jump in.

I can see why GW don't want to spend much money on it, and therefore recycle as many assets as possible.

It’s kind of lazy to not make any new miniatures, but if this one of the Barnes and Noble type games that are 50-60 bucks it is a nice selection of minis. Also worth noting that some of those have been pretty entertaining light games (heck, I like Blitz Bowl more than pretty much every current ruleset GW has).

Yeah this is the clearest indictment of how GW aren't in it for the love of the hobby or the subject matter anymore. These days it's recycled sculpts, recycled paint jobs, recycled art, recycled photos, anything to avoid actually... doing some hobby to sell product, which is nuts - you couldn't have stopped old-school GW from painting up these models to more closely match the video game to celebrate and promote a launch.

So if the box contains 20 miniatures, 16 of which are the bad guys, does that mean that the baddies consist of the 6-man Poxwalker sprue plus the Traitor Guard sprues from Kill Team: Blooded?

That would be my guess, too - and (depending on if available in the UK, and the price) one I'd consider picking up - haven't got that Primaris or the Blooded, and those alone are £57.50 at RRP. A few more Poxwalkers wouldn't be painful either - I think I'd be up to 34 once I painted those?

That game will be "Sold Out" and "Temporarily" Permanently Out of Stock five minutes after the announcement...

Salt to Taste. BTW- couldn't they have at least painted the figures up like the video game?

I’m curious about the miniatures, usually GW provides these kits with easy to build figures, which would not be the case for the ogryn, the kaskrin and the traitor guard.

Unless they are reusing other sprues for the traitors but they don’t look like the ones from blackstone fortress.

Anyway could be a nice game but the limited availability is a bit daft, I’m not sure what the purpose is - surely having these available through other stores would serve their purpose better (as introductions to the warhammer universe)?

Renegades and Heretics / traitor guard can't have nice things or be aknowledged by GW as anything other than CSM replacement for the split out cultmarines.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

When are they ever going to do a global release of these games.
As mentioned before, they are sold out before you know it and trying to get a copy for countries other than USA and Germany is near impossible.
Come on GW, do the right thing for your global customers.

While this is obviously an extremely boring release from a straightforward POV I do find it somewhat interesting from a "what GW is and isn't willing to do" POV.

For many years the default (and correct) assumption was that GW would never retool and repackage existing assets. Hence the many observations through the years along the lines of "they can't rerelease X model because it was on the same sprue as Y model," usually when discussing multi-faction starter sets. Now we have a concrete example of them doing that. I can't remember any earlier examples, anything come to mind for anybody else?

They had a few of the 8th ed WHFB starter set High Elves available separately for a while (certainly the Lothern Sea Guard, maybe the Swordmasters too?), and unlike other cases where they released similar but slightly distinct figures on their own (the Skaven clanrats from the same set for instance, which had attached shields in the starter but separate ones in the unit box), I'm fairly certain these were the same exact sculpts in the same pieces, just on retooled sprues.
Still, that was a rarity.

Exactly! And if they did do unique new sculpts, all the copies of the game would be bought up by existing players rather than hooking newbies like they clearly intend.

Yep and as I noted earlier, if these products are designed to outreach and spread brand for GW then its useless if all their stock gets bought up by their current market hunting for unique new model designs. Yes it means fast sales, but it also means all the outreach that GW was investing in it for, won't work. All its done is generate sales of models at discount and with more costs for customers GW already has and could profit more off just selling the models direct anyway.

So yep using already used models for sets like this is a good move. Existing customers won't be as die-hard eager to get them and that means the game can sit on shelves and attract and lure in totally new people to the brand

Depending on the price, with ten multipart traitor guardsmen, we just might 😅

It looks to be a dumbed down Fire Team, which is just a hex-based version of Kill Team. Fire Team at least has two teams and can be expanded by three?!? more. This seems to be a weird mix of it and some side glances at Blackstone Fortress.

You say that like it's a bad thing! It looks like it might be a pretty cool, Inq28-style game. Probably not deep enough for invested players like ourselves, but it seems like a compelling concept for new players.

I think they're sensible enough to know that if they're not releasing this in the UK, putting new minis in would be a really bad idea.

We don't know that they're not some pushfit re-cut of the traitors, yet. Having all that assembly for a bunch of grunts for a 'simple' board game might be a bit much.

It's not like the UK has a bunch of effectively region locked exclusive models of its own...

Any idea which retailers are selling it? I can't see it on any typical German store webpages, and any bets on getting the game on the GW page are slim

I saw on Auspex Tactics this is supposed to be 110 USD. If that turns out to be turn I don’t think you will see much of anyone buying it.

The last couple of board games have reminded me of the likes of Tyranid Attack, Kerunch! and the like - though a bit more sparse on the mini count

A bargain if you just assume each character is worth $30 each.

Which they are not of course.
