Finally finished the Chaos Lord - pics of him are over on my Showcase thread!

Ugh, man, it's been forever since I've spent a solid chunk of time working on my models. Getting back into it again though, finally! Right now I'm working on a couple of squads of snipers and a Land Speeder Storm, in my pre-Heresy colour scheme.

The boys in the speeder aren't actually glued in yet, gonna do that once they're painted. Bloody clowns, the lot of them.

This here's my scout sergeant Jabari (who in my personal army fluff is also one of my Terminators, and a psyker, hence the different head). He's been modded up a bit - spare sniper rifle stuck on his back, and the bandoleer strap has been sculpted out of greenstuff, with some grenade bits stuck on as well. The sword has also been modded - it's the original scout arm, with the blade cut off and a larger blade stuck on to make the power sword.

Still got a fair bit of work to do on him, and of course a lot of work to do on the rest of the scouts. They've already done well for me on the tabletop though, so I'm looking forward to getting them finished and fielding them properly!

Back again, with some decent progress on my scouts! These guys are actually the first time I've painted skin tones and faces. XD It's been a learning experience! Also, I seriously regret gluing these guys together before painting them, especially with the cloaks. Ugh. Ah well.

First squad of five, including Jabari as the sergeant. Still a lot of work to do on the three in the back.

Second squad of five, all long range and camo'd up. Again, still got a lot of work to do on all of these ones.

Jabari here is pretty much finished, and I've almost finished this other scout - just gotta touch up a few more things on him and add the Water Effects to his base.

I'm trying to give all these guys varying skin tones and hair/eye colours, so it'll be interesting to see what I can do with them. Man, painting the eyes is a pain in the everything, heh.

Hopefully I'll have another update soon. Comments and feedback are, as always, very much appreciated!

Very nice! Those skin tones are indeed perfect. They are going to look awesome when they are all finished!

@Commander Cain: Thank you! I'm just hoping the rest of them look as good once they're all done!

Anyway, back again! I'm still working on the scouts, but I don't really have much new to show for them. I've got some other stuff I'm also working on, though!

First up, I'm customising some MkIV armour from Forgeworld to make one of my Deathwatch characters; Jahi, a Raptorae discipline Librarian from my loyalist Thousand sons army. I've made a book out of plasticard and greenstuff, and it'll be hanging from a chain around his waist. I've also carved a khopesh-style force sword from plasticard, and I've started on the greenstuff modifications like the tabard and helmet.

Here's a bit of a closer look at the book and khopesh.

I've also finally put together a model I got from Games Day back in 2012 - a Blood Angels captain. Not sure if I want to customise him up for my own army, or leave him as is and paint him as a proper Blood Angel. Decisions, decisions.

Finally, something I'll be working on in the background when I don't feel like doing anything else...

Nice work, man! I really like the freehand (and sculpted!) shoulder pad iconography. Fantastic banner work too!

As a BA guy, I look forward to seeing your Space Hulk models come together, and maybe that Games Day captain.

@pantheralegionnaire: Thanks man! Yeah, I'm looking forward to working on the Space Hulk models. Part of me wants to customise them for my Thousand Sons - but the rest of me doesn't want to mess with them, because they're such nice sculpts! It truly is a dilemma.

Got a bit more done on my Deathwatch character, Jahi! I've tidied up his tabard a bit, carved the nasal crest for the helmet, and made a chain for his book. Waiting for the greenstuff chain to dry so I can tidy it up and then stick his arms on.

Planning on doing a bit more detail work on him too - mainly drilling out the center bit of his chestplate and greenstuffing a scarab or something in there, hopefully that will work out. Thinking of getting rid of the skull over his abdomen, too - thoughts?

I agree with you on removing skull. If you remove it you will get nice free space for some kind of free hand.

You could incorporate the skull into a freehand if you were going that way. Otherwise I thinks it looks good there, maybe a green stuff I for the deathwatch representation could be built round it?

Ooh, the Deathwatch =I= is a nifty idea...! It'd be interesting to see if I could pull it off, that'd be some really fine detail greenstuffing...

That there is some excellent sculpting, can't wait to see him finished!

@Commander Cain: Thank you! I can't wait either, hehehe.

Okay, so I've added the scarab to the chestplate and decided to try that Inqusitorial =I= idea on the abdomen. Had to trim down the top of the skull to give some room for the top half of the symbol. This is just the first pass, waiting for the greenstuff to dry before I tidy it up and stuff.

Opinions? What does everyone think of the Inquisitorial symbol so far? Keep it? Ditch it? Any other comments?

To be honest I am not fan of it. Somehow Thousand sons seem to proud to me to wear that symbol. Somehow I imagine them to feel its burden as too much restrictive and maybe prohibitive and Thousand Sons dont handle the pressure too well .
But that is your character so if you feel it go with it. Your greenstuffing skills are great so you are able to represent it well enough.

Nice work! Exactly how I imagined it. (although I'm obviously biased here) that model is looking gloriously singular. Exactly how deathwatch should look.

@dubovac: Yeah man, I get what you mean! There's a lot of background fluff to this char though (and the rest of his "chapter" XD), and part of it is them doing their best to fit in with current Imperium - which includes the Deathwatch. And the Sons have always been good at deception and misdirection, after all. So if that includes wearing a symbol they otherwise wouldn't, then so be it!

@Edreynaline: Bias or no, thank you! Especially for the suggestion in the first place - I wouldn't have thought of it myself! Sculpting details that small has been an interesting challenge. I'm so looking forward to finishing up the detailing so I can get his arms on properly and finally see him in full, heh. And man, painting black armour is gonna be a nice change from all the red I've been doing lately!

Some more progress! Now that the greenstuff's dry, I tidied up the Inquisition symbol a little and finally finished putting this guy together. On the hunt for xeno scum!

I think he's just about ready to prime and paint! As always, comments and feedback are welcome! Oh, and would anyone be interested in seeing a step by step of how I made the sword?

Just keep in mind that the Deathwatch/Ordo Xenos isn't just about pew pew pew. They're about political affairs and such and other dealings with aliens, not just killing.

Okay so I've just posted a tutorial thread on how to make swords out of plasticard!

This is the sword I made and the lovely subject chosen to (temporarily) model it! I'll be properly modifying this guy at some point - I'm not sure if I want to keep all the studs on him though. I'll definitely be taking them off the helmet and modifying that to be more Sons-y like my others. Any thoughts on the studs? Keep 'em or lose 'em?

@wolflordkejl: Thank you!

Hello again all! I've just posted a step by step on how I paint skin and hair - I hope people will find it useful!

As for my WIPs - I've finally finished and photographed my 25th Anniversary model modification and the rest of his tactical squad, and I've also finished the two five-man scout squads I was working on earlier. The photos for them all are in here!

Here's a bit of progress on the six scouts for my Landspeeder Storm - I used them for the skin and hair tutorial.

And here's my Deathwatch marine Jahi primed and ready for painting!

Though I'm waiting for some new magnets to come in before I actually start painting him - I've decided to magnetise his backpack so I can switch it out for an assault jump pack as well. Death from above!

My magnets arrived today, hooray!

So here we have Jahi with his assault pack, zoomzoom tearass.

I put the magnets above the bump/hole so that the backpack/jump pack would still sit straight on his back and not swing around any.

The magnets I've used here are 3mm in diameter and 1.5mm thick.

Hopefully I'll get around to starting to paint him soon! As always, comments/feedback welcome.

Got started on Jahi's paint! Haven't gotten far yet though, so it still looks terrible, heh.

Besides that, I've also been working on converting my Storm Talon to something slightly less lumpy-potato-like. XD I've managed to get the assault cannon up higher into the nose while still keeping a bit of rotation/elevation movement, so I'm pretty pleased with that.

However, I have a problem! I am terribly indecisive, so I need comments and opinions on where to put all the OTHER weapons!

Version 1 - Lascannons on the wingtips, bolters flush against the nose, missile pods under the wings up against the engines. I'd also trim off those extruding bits where the weapon pods would normally mount either side of the nose, so the nose profile will be slimmer.

Version 2 - Missile pods integrated into the roof instead of mounted under the wings. If I do go with this, I'll actually be sinking the pods more flush against the roof so they're not sitting up quite so high. I just don't want to cut anything off yet until I finalise what I'm actually doing.

Version 3 - Lascannons flush against the nose and extending far out to the front, heavy bolters mounted on the outside. If I go with this, I'd modify the extruding bits to better suit having the bolters mounted in them.

Version 4 - Bolters flush against the nose, lascannons mounted on the outside. If I go with this, I'd modify the extruding bits to better suit having the lascannons mounted in them.

Or any other ideas that people might have! I don't want to mess with the wings/tail too much though, 'cause I actually quite like how they are (and I still want to be able to fit this thing into the custom foam I have for it! ) I mostly just wanted to trim down the nose as much as I can.

Help me, Dakkadakka! You're my only hope!

Got some feedback on the Storm Talon elsewhere, so I've been working on getting it finished! Still dry-fitted for the moment though.

I'm really pleased with the modified assault cannon - it still has elevation/depression and a 360 degree arc. I also managed to hinge the cockpit canopy! Mostly just to see if I COULD, heh. I forgot about the top panel of the hull though, so I had to trim it down a little bit to let the canopy open further. If I were to do this again, I'd try hinging it at the front of the canopy instead.

Here's a better look at the modifications I made to the assault cannon:

And here's a closer look at the lascannons and how I modified them before sticking them on the wings.

The customisation is mostly done now, I think, save for some minor detailing. My little space potato is just about ready to properly assemble, prime and paint!

Comments and feedback welcome! Any other suggestions for the Storm Talon?

The lascannons need some kind of power source/firing components; as they are now, they're just barrels! XD

Great conversion! I do agree that the lascannons need some form of power source, even if it's just a power cable running along the wing.

Another thing you may want to consider is extending the nose of the ship, it worked wonders for my own conversion.

Spoiler:

Loving the converted assault cannon, really smart idea.

Thanks for the feedback!

@Kepora: Yeah, I've been trying to think of what to add to those lascannons! I kinda reasoned that the power supply stuff was back in the engine nacelles and connected to the barrels through the interior of the wing. I do agree that the lascannons do need something more though, I just don't know WHAT yet. Need to see what bits I can find!

@Commander Cain: I kinda like the idea of a power cable of some sort, but logically it doesn't make sense for that kinda thing to be out in the open, y'know? I figure something like that would be put inside the wing itself.

Also I don't want to change the overall shape of the Talon too much, otherwise I won't be able to fit it in its custom foam, like I said earlier. Although I could possibly build a slight extension to the nose from plasticard... but then I wouldn't have room for the sensor/light package currently in the nose. Hmmm.

Any more ideas, people?
