Bought a Knight Arcanum today for the handsome price of £4. She'll be put towards the AOS solo campaigns, featured on Warcom and in WD 458, and is now assembled and ready to begin painting.
I am diving deep into the forthcoming Ironjawz models, and kicked off with a new set of Brutes and heroes for the Bloodtoofs. All Slapchopped, averaging about an hour or so for each unit, start-to-finish.
Moved on to building a massive pig army - 30 Gore-Gruntas in five units of six!

You're welcome!
Note though that the new freeguild cavalier shown above is a champion and not a character.
I would guess that the new horses proportions are more realistic than the old ones. However the clumsiness of the humans more or less remained (big hands, big heads etc).

Pretty cool those Ironjawz! I tried slapp chopp with 2 stormcasts and was not really convinced. I think they did not look better than regular contrast and the time consumption for 2-3 layers of dry brushing was also not negligible.
Your results look pretty great though. However a comparison between normal contrast style and slap chop would be interesting.

Interesting..
A couple of immediate thoughts...
1. Choice of colour will be important, as will the exact Contrast paints you are using, as there are differences in consistency throughout the range.
2. Don't go for 3 layers of drybrushing (2 works well enough) and if it is a non-negligible time being spent on it... you may be spending too long 30-45 seconds for a Stormcast (with both grey and white dyrbrushing combined) is probably what you are looking for. Any more than that might be time wasted (unless you are not a mere mortal of a painter, in which case ignore all my advice!).
I recently did these guys:
And just the time saved on the base coat/shading/highlighting of the main armour gives Slapchopping the win here. Entire unit in, what, a couple of hours-ish - having to do the gold and bare metal in the 'traditional' method can slow things down, but they are the last things to be done so you are riding high on the feels of getting everything else done in super-fast time.
WOuld urge you to give it another spin - if you have a mountain of grey, this is the timesaving method you are looking for...

Thanks for the great advices!
I think also my main problem is that my flow control with the brush is not good. So I get a lot of pooling and it takes quite long.
I would try it again with the CoS box I just bought. However I already primed it Grey Seer. Slappchop was supposed to be black primed and than grey, white drybrush?

It is (without getting into more advanced stuff whereby different colours are used for the prep). However, GW's sprays are quite thin, so you should be good with a blast or three of Chaos Black on top of the Grey Seer...

Now, I get that, and it does require a little change in thinking.
The key is to correct mistakes immediately and not leave it to the end - often, just a wipe with an M Base brush will sort things out, maybe with a little water if it is a big whoops. However, I would venture to say that Slapchop is more forgiving of mistakes than 'straight' Contrast, specifically because you have those dark recesses - they act as a kind of 'buffer' if you do go 'over the lines' a little. Also, if you can start with the lighter colours and move to darker ones as you go, they can often paint straight over the previous coat.
Speaking of Slapchop, managed to do these on Friday evening - a complete unit of Nurgle-aligned Chaos Warriors, less than two hours to do, excluding the drying time on the bases...

They are impressive! The more comic-like look of slappchop also works well with nurgle aesthetic I think. What color do you use for your base?
Btw my test mini above is normal contrast.

Good question. I mean, you could... but their weapons don't match the new Ardboyz.
I like them much more with the choppas, rather than the spears.

After years of tip toeing around the system, buying and selling a TON of stuff... I am actually giving Age of Sigmar a go with some old Nighthaunt. Toss up between them and Kruleboyz but there are already a few Orruk players in the group. I have the Soulwars Nighthaunt painted up and I'm buying a TON of stuff off a fellow club member.
I thought it might be fun to vlog this endeavour, I'm sure lots of folks want to improve and as a complete noob I'm not just telling people how to get better - I'll be on the journey myself!
I'll get some proper unit shots up as soon as I can.
