the space marine and the black ork i'd say meet it.
The white ork technically meets it, but I wouldn't play it, it looks bad with all the white.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

Not too bad at all - what would really help is doing something to the bases, I find that makes models look "finished"...

If they have 3 colors, they meet the standard.
Now, they aren't super well painted or anything, but they're a good start.

thanks for the replies. I dont expect to win any painting contests, i do it to pass the time and relax after work. The ork that is white with gray on it i might rework at some point, but have not decided yet. I like the idea of them being whats left that found a waaaaaaaagh to join after their last war boss met with......a slight accident of the warp.(mailed it home from Iraq, and now cant find it)
and yes, im going to put some flock on the bases. but thanks for the responses. yall can expect more questions, as im wanting to game in a tournament or two next year, maybe even games day. Automatically Appended Next Post: LunaHound wrote:Yep they surpass the 3 color standard.

They might have more then 3 colors, but i normally dont count the details as a color, i always thought it was the big stuff, skin/armor, gun, clothes, etc.

Everything looks fine technically, but I'll chime in that the white ork makes my eyes hurt a bit. Nothing wrong with the others. The marines may even be pretty good, although I can't see due to the picture quality.
You're more than fine for 3 color though.
Should throw a coat of paint on the bases just to clean them up, even if you do nothing else. Takes less than 2 minutes to do a squad. If you just paint them concrete gray or something they'll look more finished. You can always go back and add the flockiing and whatnot later.
|
I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Thanks for the tip. and yes my picture taking is not the best in the world. Ive never figured out how to keep the minis in focus and show all the detail.

pretty much agree with the above in that they meet the 3 color standard and that the white ork is simply painful to look at! he's like an ork puff daddy in his white suit... as for the other guys, washes are a quick and VERY easy way of giving extra detail to models. if you buy an ogryn flesh wash, you can simply dunk a medium brush into it and cover the the non-black parts of the orks with it and simply let it dry. the marine is a bit trickier since i'd use the black wash but then have to go over again the raised parts with the base color (much more work than the ork).
i also agree with the basing suggestions. it takes less than 5 minutes for a squad of 10 to be based. buy a bag of basing material (grass/flock is the easiest) and a $1 bottle of elmer's glue. take a large paint brush and dip it in the elmer's and cover the bases of 5 models. then take the models and swirl them in the pile of flock so that the glue is covered with it and simply let them dry. if you play in any tournies, those that have a painting score added in usually give 2 points for basing (1 for simply basing them at all and another if you go above and beyond with more advanced techniques) and you can earn a point in just a few minutes. also, the models simply look better overall based for very little effort/skill.

I agree about the bases, and the effect of lots of flat white on the orks.
The rest of it is fine. You can experiment with washes and stuff later.
IMO a lot of people try too hard to make their every single figure look like a high resolution pic of a Golden Daemon winner. It's lots of work, most of us can't do it and it just gets discouraging.
