I seen a nid painted in the black glossy paint scheme like the Xenomorphs from the movie Alien. I can't seem to find it again but I was thinking today how awesome it would be to do a full army modeled and painted as different schemes of Xenomorphs. So I got a plan on what to convert each type of nid into

Hive Tyrant

Hive Guard

Lictor

Genestealers

Hormagaunts

I'm still trying to figure out how to do the paint scheme. Any tips would be appreciated.
I also want to know what I should model Rippers and Gargoyles as?

I know Necros has a really nice Alien/Nids army. Heres his website for some inspiration

Use the aliens from the movie Pitch Black as your gargoyles.

As for painting the glossy effect.

Unless you want to do wet blending for an entire army, I'd paint black as per usual (building up to grey, maybe with a bluish wash) then cover the damn thing in layers of 'ard coat.

Rippers should be Face Huggers or Chestbursters.
Not sure about the Gargyles, but in that vain & since you're already using the old toys as insperation, why not use the Winged Queen for a Harpy or The Parasite of Mortrex.

The last Hive Tyrant (not the current one) has a head that's quite reminiscent of the Queen.

The original Hormagaunts looked very like the Aliens, head-wise. Also, for that style head, look into ooold Bloodletters of Khorne.

As Tyranids are clearly an Alien clone, every second Tyranid player had this idea once. In 2nd edition, I tried that painting scheme but stopped playing because glossy black just looked so boring, like a bad base colouring (had 20 metal Aliens as my Genestealers). Didn't stop me from buying several Alien Queen models "counting as" Biotitans until I started again with my current painting scheme. Still have two Warrior sized Alien Queens for future conversions (Parasite and Alpha Warrior).

Necros and Navarro are the most well known makers of Alien Tyranids, but there are many more ( http://www.coolminiornot.com/238044 , http://www.coolminiornot.com/72567 can't find them all ATM, esp. one fantastic silvery black commission work).
This concept is so popular, that you can already buy the Alien heads as conversion bits from CHapterhouse (sculpted by Navarro):
http://chapterhousestudios.com/webshop/component/virtuemart/?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=71&category_id=34 . Not to speak of all the manufacturers of Alien inspired bases, with Dark Art Miniature's Alien wall set being the last in a long row of releases.

So it is as common as Star Wars Rebel themed Guard, still not a bad idea.

BTW here my simple "count as" Tervigon (I also have better ones):

I recommend getting some 2 tone (i think that is what it's called) paint. I have never used it but I have seen models painted with it and they look great. You may be able to find someone on here who has used it.
