Right. Here goes nothing...

I've toyed with the idea of making this thread for some time now, as I've been gradually getting more and more annoyed with my lack of painting progress with any of my game systems (40k various, WHFB Skull Pass and LotR).

So, this is what it's come to: me creating a blog with which I will motivate myself to paint via the time honoured method of other people pestering me until I give in and paint something.

As stated above, I have at some point or another attempted to play all 3 of Games Workshops major product lines (aside from WotR, which I have an odd dislike of.) As you may have guessed from my Avatar, I play Eldar, but I also have a few Tau and Space Marines which I enjoy painting. I bought the Battle for Skull pass as it contained a fair amount of Night Goblins, which I actually intend to use in a proper battle at some point once they have been suitably fortified with plenty of fungus beer some proper units. I also have the Mines of Moria boxed set and 24 Soldiers of Gondor and Wood Elves, and I need to get more as I think the game mechanics are far superior to the other 2 games. (as well as being a great fan of the LotR books and films. It's a shame no-one in my area plays ) Anyway, of those, the ones that are painted are:

99% of my Eldar, although this was my first army so most of it was painted when I had no idea what I was doing. (Tbh, I probably still don't!)

80% of my Tau. I still need to do some Fire Warriors, some Kroot and a couple of battlesuits.

90% of my Space Marines. This doesn't mean much as I only have a few and most need repainting. I also try to get these guys up to the highest standard possible for me.

40% of my Skull Pass models. This consists of a unit of Night Goblins and some more of another unit, as well as the odd Dwarf.

10% of my LotR models. I've painted about 4 of the Soldiers of Gondor and 3 of the Fellowship, as well as some really awfully painted Wood Elves.

I think that's it. I may also post any other WH projects that I happen to start. Hopefully this means I will finish them as well.

----------------------

As you might have guessed by now, this thread is forcing me into painting models, as I otherwise procrastinate on Dakka too much (grr...).

What I want you good fellows to do is this: If I don't post at least one newly painted model per week, yell at me until I do. I am also looking for ways I can improve my painting skills in general. Any advice you could give that doesn't involve the purchasing of fancy equipment or too many new paints would be greatly appreciated.

I will post photos of some sample models tommorrow to give you all a feel for my painting ability and style, then the Plog will start for real on Monday.

Thanks for reading all, and see (not literally of course) you all tomorrow!

Okay, I promised I would get some sample photo's up for you all to have a look at so here is a small selection of my models for your perousal:

It's amazing how different the painting looks when you take a photo of it. Stuff that looks good when model sized suddenly becomes awful when zoomed in. HELP!

Anyway, comments and advice greatly appreciated:

I'll be painting Sam Gamgee from the Mines of Moria set this week.

Thanks for reading.

Those models are very nice, especially if, as you say, you're not zoomed in. But you've got a great table-top job on all of those things.

Awesome. I have in fact, almost finished Sam, so you won't be waiting much longer. I just have to do a few washes and drybrushing.

I'm not quite overdue yet. I still have the weekend, but that would be procrastination!

Have you ever thought about thinning out your paints? It tends to make a pretty noticable change. I like how Sam looks!

I do thin my paints, but I often forget as I go along.

Anyway, which member of the Fellowship should I paint next? Gandalf, Pippin, Boromir, Frodo or Legolas?

Btw, I found an 'invisible frodo' model that I got ages ago, so if you want to see pictures of that (it's really cool and I don't think you can get them anymore) just ask and I will provide.

Great start! Paint jobs look pretty good. How did you do the red on the berzerker? Maybe I can finally find some motivation myself, instead of lurking about on Dakka, and actually get some of my stuff painted. Keep posting!

The Zerker was blood red believe it or not. Then I coated it in Armour Wash (I'm so annoyed that GW discontinued this paint, If anyone has a decent recipe I would be eternally grateful. Badab Black just doesn't cut it I'm afraid, the same with Deadly Nightshade paint) then I painted the trim areas burnished gold and gave it a coat of Armour Wash again.

That's actually one of my favourite paint jobs, I did it for cash from a friend, and a full squad of them looks awesome on the tabletop.

Anyway, here's that Invisible Frodo I promised:

You have no idea how much I enjoyed posting that. I do actually have a model (so it wasn't a complete joke).

I'll just go and take a proper photo of it.

I was thinking Gandalf myself. I think I'll try out blending on his robes and (if I'm feeling optimistic) OSL from his staff.

Any advice on using either of these techniques?

Also, indiana1000, double and triple post fail. You aren't pressing the button more than once are you?
