Do you realize how many people who now play 40K were BORN after this thing was invented?

--

A harder project that I initially imagined. I have to invent, wholesale, the tank's interior. And there's not a lot of working room in here. I'm also going to have to cut holes in various bulkheads, to create the interior space that exists. For example, most tanks store their ammunition inside the left and right tread sponsons.

Additionally, as if that wasn't enough, the tank's turret is way, WAY too small. There's almost no way one could actually get out of the top hatch, if there's an actual main cannon breach inside the turret.

Good thing I re-organized my styrene supplies!

That kit is what got me into the hobby when it first came out, of course until recently I have never played an army that could take one but hey.

You know, I'm not too sure what year that tank came out, but I think it might be older than me. Dang I feel young now.

So, here's tonight's progress. Working out how to punch holes through the sponsons, as well as how the heavy bolters would be operated. If I was thinking ahead, I'd have carved the rotational cylinder apart, making it into a gun shield, as in the real world. A little late for that, unless I steal a sponson from my OTHER '94 vintage Leman Russ. Which may happen.

The small box is behind the "Maintenance hatch", which I've converted into a tool box. As a note, some tanks had external communications sets, so the infantry outside could talk to the tank commander inside.

FYI, this will be a Leman Russ Vanquisher, with three hull heavy bolters, and a pintle heavy stubber.

Sponson parts:

Sponson exterior:

Sponson interior:

Unlike previous projects, this Russ will come apart (magnets) to be able to show off all the interior work. At a minimum, the top hull will detach from the bottom.

Enjoy!

--B.

PS: Yes, all muzzles and whatnots will be drilled out.

IIRC the old Inferno magazine had cut away views of IG tanks. I don't specifically recall if they had the Leman Russ though.

I can look at my collection later and see.

Great work; keep it up! Good to see another Guard log floating around Dakka, and a creative one at that too.

Ooh. What a swell project.

Are you going to paint it retro too? And 1994 was my birthyear. That's crazy, your tank is almost 22 years old.

I'm not sure. I may go retro, as I have all the decals, and a flag. But I may go hyper-detailed, and add it to my Winter Guard as part of my Vanquisher Squadron.

I started in '87, so much of my collection is old enough to vote in the US.

Hyper detailed would be sweet.

Did they make a 1994 Chimera too?

Edit nope, they made a Razorback though, (which I coincidentally own already. *table of shame.* )

Spent the day back on the Redemptionist trail. Batch painting is finished. I'm now down to doing the 'nitty gritty' for each figure. Touchups, eyes, and channeling my inner Knightley.

The two Deacons:

Brother and Sister:

The Lone Zealot:

Thank you all for the complements!

I had to use my magnifier for the first time, on these. Protip for you young folks: Don't get old.

I also brought out the last of my Citadel "Flesh Wash" for the gold/brass and faces/hands. This was the best wash, ever. Even more useful than Secret Weapon's "Soft Body Black". I have about a fifth of a paint pot left of the miracle fluid.
