I’ve got a tournament coming up in a few months it pretty standard except for a changing a few of the missions.
Instead of Capture & Control they brought back Cleanse; the table is divided into 4 quarters and the player with the majority of scoring units in single quarter gets a point (2pts for quarters on your opponent’s side)
And they added the old Recon objective to Annihilation; players get 2pts for every troop in your opponent’s deployment zone and 1 for other choices (dedicated transports don’t count)

So here is the list I’m considering taking…

HQ
112 – Command Squad:
Bolt Pistol, 3 Meltaguns and Officer Of The Fleet.
55 – Chimera: Heavy Flamer.

ELITE
100 – Psyker Battle Squad:
4 Additional Pyskers
55 – Chimera: Heavy Flamer.

TROOPS
100 – Veteran Squad:
3 Meltaguns
55 – Chimera: Heavy Flamer.

100 – Veteran Squad: 3 Meltaguns
55 – Chimera: Heavy Flamer.

100 – Veteran Squad: 3 Meltaguns
(In vendetta)

115 – Veteran Squad: 3 Plasmaguns
55 – Chimera: Heavy Flamer

FAST ATTACK
130 – Vendetta

80 – 2 Scout Sentinels: Autocannons

150 – Banewolf: Heavy Flamer, Extra Armour & Smoke Launcher.

HEAVY SUPPORT
165 – Leman Russ Battle Tank:
Lascannon

150 – 2 Hydras

160 – Manticore:
Heavy Flamer

TOTAL PTS: 1747
TOTAL NO: 56 (13)
KILL PTS: 17

Expensive units at quite common at Open War such as Nob Bikers, to counter these sorts of units I’ve decided to go with a Psyker battle squad allowing me to reduce their leadership to 2 then shoot some ordnance at them and if they run chase them off the board with the Valkyrie.

However due to the need for scoring units I have considered replacing the Psykers and Banewolf’s extra armour with a veteran squad with a Lascannon and camo cloaks to sit in my area, this would also free up the Vendetta so it can rescue squads after their chimera has been destroyed.

Another option to increase my number of scoring units would be to drop the 2 plasma veteran squads for an infantry platoon...

50 – Platoon Command: 4 Flamers
55 – Chimera: Heavy Flamer
X3 70 – Infantry Squad: Lascannon (1 with Commissar)

But that does sacrifice some mobility. Also when considering the rest of the list and possible opponents which do think I should go for; Valkyrie with rocket pods or Vendetta?

Your thoughts?

I like the top of the list. Classic mech-vet.

The bottom of your list is all over the place. A bunch of different single units that do different things in different ways. It needs more focus.

What I'd do is throw away the vendetta, sentinels, hydras, russ, banewolf and manticore for 835 points. Then I'd go back in and spend those points on 3 of two of those units (except the sentinels). Bring more vets if necessary to fill vendettas should you choose to take them.

Agreed. I personally would say that it's your Fast Attack that, needs the most focus and I actually like your heavy support slot. From then, it depends on what you want. If you want highly mobile, then go for Valks and Vendettas. However, if you want to mechanize your list more go for more and more Banewolfs. If you drop your Vendetta and 2 Scout Sentinels (which honestly are not very good units at all...). That gives you 210 points....another for another Banewolf with all the upgrades as your other, and another unit. With 60 points maybe you can beef up your psyker squad more or what have you. But generally, choose a focus and run with it.

Sadly I can't afford another Valkyrie at the moment which means my only other fast attack choice is my old Hellhound.

Also do you think dropping the psyker battle squad and banewolf extra armour for a veteran squad with camo cloaks and a lascannon for camping on a home objectives a good idea, it will allow me to use the chimera with the 3rd vet squad and free up the valk for rescuing squad who have had their transport blown up and deliver them to objecitves? Then again Psykers are good for dealing with big uber units with the Ld power?

Ahhh. alright then. I personally wouldn't drop the psyker battle squad for anything....it can be extrememly useful for its leadership lowering effects. You just better hope said uber unit isn't fearless or stubborn....those will ignore your PBS and make it useless. I personally find extra armor on vets useful....the 4+ save is just so much more useful than the average 5+. It doesn't seem like much, but I've found it quite useful.

Unfortunately, I've never used a Valkyrie in my games, so I can't really offer advice. Though I will say that the idea you're suggesting has a lot of potential...but be sure to playtest it first. Remember, the Vanquisher sounds awesome.....then you use it in a game.

Hey - you know this is the Grot Rebellion army right?

I would keep the Psykers and drop the plasma vets for that platoon you mention. Maybe lose a squad of them though to add back in the DOOM VEE's from the plasma vet squads.

Someone did suggest this list on another forum which I think is a good improvement without changing much. Of course I'll need to convert another chimera but I've already got an idea for that!

this is almost the exact same list. Unsurprisingly, it has almost the exact same problems.
