So I got this predator on ebay for 17.00 bucks. The paint is pretty bad and looks pretty heavily glued. However I was wondering if you guys could help me get a idea on what generation this is and what the weapon load out is( are they lascannons on the side? and i think i see a spot light) Any ways thanks for the help. Also i have used simple green many times but would you guy recommend soaking the whole thing or trying to get it apart?

I believe that's a mk2 predator. MK1 is the bubble turrent if I remember correctly. The turrent is a autocannon and side sponsons are lascannon's.

That's my favorite load out on a pred

It's the predator released during 2nd edition but used until the all plastic kit was released more recently. I suppose 4th edition when it was phased out. It's armed with three lascannons, or is the turret an autocannon?

The other predator around the same time also used metal parts had a round turret I think.

I preferred the all plastic predator of the Rogue Trader era. This kit also used the original Rhino chassis as the basis and gave you a plastic turret and sponsons. I don't understand why metal turrets and sponsons were supposed to be a step forward.

yup, it's the second generation predator model (2nd to 3rd edition 40k is when it was available). the mk1 had the bubble turret as you said as well as bubble remote operated side sponsons. this one has the leman russ type side sponsons and top (and is part metal). i've gotten a few models like that over the years (i built my army mainly 2nd hand back when 3rd edition started) and it will be worth it to strip the model but possible not to rip it apart. models like this one that you disassemble tend to have the plastic bend and not fit correctly when you try and put it back together. i don't see any gaps in the part lines so i'm guessing you just have glue gobs over some joints. i'd recommend filing them down and filling any gaps with putty.

I have a couple of these, I think they came out around 1996 ish. This one looks pretty beaten up... The kit came with some mods, one of which was a photon flash flare. Which resembled a spotlight? I don't see it in your photos though.

The turret and the sponsons are metal you can break those off easy (they usually fall off actually), it looks like they need resetting anyway.

The hull I would leave in one piece and just try to clean it, and repair it as it is.

The old Rhino chassis is ugly, but the turret looks fine as a retroversion on a new Rhino Chassis.

The old chassis could end as a terrain pieces perhaps as a wrecked Guard, Rebell or Ork Rhino.
