Started a SM army, after I bought the Assault on Black Reach box, it was missing parts, and GW sent me a second for free. Couldn't figure out how I wanted to paint the marines. I sat down to watch a movie, and that movie, was Iron Man. And the rest as they say, is history. Not going for an entire army of models all with heads that way. Just a general theme. Marines will be red and gold (mark two armor or higher), assault marines red and silver (silver centurionl), and heavy weapons or special weapons will be black and silver (warmachine). I will be posting pics when I get free time. If anyone cares, check em out. Feel free to comment, question, suggest, and constructively criticise.

Haha brilliant if not looking like some type of Blood Angel Successor (really I was in fact expecting the Iron Men from 40k lore!)

although will there be other things other than the iconic Iron Man? Bit of a comic book geek myself so I would squeal at the though of Hulkbuster Armor (well you already got that I suppose with terminators and dreads!) and other things

I actually made the Terminator armor after seeing Tony in the Asgardian armor from when Thor lost his mind and Tony thought he could stop him by making a suit powered by a broken chip of Mjolnir. He found out the hard way he was wrong. I am working on the Hulk Buster Armor for my assault Dread. The regular one was just something I wanted to do, and I wrote Hugh on the name plate on the sarcophagus afterwards. That is to symbolize Tony's long dead father Hughbert Stark. The army name is actually going to be either "The Men of Iron" or "The Stark". Going to keep working on them in addition to my Snakebite Orks. Will get some more pictures put up maybe later tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for all the feed back.

Sorry forgot to respond to your comment. Oddly enough I simply cut off the respirator, and the vent off the top of a space marine, and then very carefully carved the mouth. and drilled dents in the ear covers. Took me 2 days to get it right, and I think I went through about 10 heads before I was happy with it. Wish I could do a tutorial. Maybe on my next vacation. It looks a lot better up close, when you can see that the mouth isn't as black as the picture made it.

I was going to do my Commander and his retinue as members of the Iron Avengers, when Stark made armor suits for them. Gonna do a bit of a spin off though, Hawk Eye, Wolverine, Iron Patriot, Thor, and Black Knight. Hope they turn out like I want them to.

Iron Patriot is actually from the Ultimate Universe. He is Norman Osborne, in a suit of Power Armor made by stark. He is head of the Dark Avengers. They pose as good guys, but in actuality are evil. Look them up on Wikipedia to see what I mean. He looks like Iron Man painted like Captain America. Cool stuff

I did post above how I made the head, I will see if I can't take the time to do a tutorial sometime this weekend. Working 4, 12 hour shifts. Basically gone from my house 14 hours a day for the next 4 days. Won't have much time to paint or anything. Thanks to everyone for all your positive feedback. You all have really given me the confidence to finish more models. I will be posting more pics tonight, hopefully.

Great start to the army. I like your theme...i dont think calling it original is the right expression, but it definately is different from the typical themes. I really like the idea of different colored units and should make for a great looking army. The iron man face looks awesome. Cant wait to see more pics.

That is looking freaking awesome! I really want to just paint at least one to look like that. I'm a orky kinda guy maybe one day when I learn how to sculpt I'll try to make a hulk ork, or hork.

This is made of win. I would love if you went through with a tutorial on how you made the little Iron Man helmet. My brother is a huge Iron Man fan and his birthday is coming up...would love to make him a SM made to look like Iron Man.

Good job on the army! This is something that I'd figure more people would have done, I'm kinda surprised it's not. I love comic books as well, and wanted to point out a few things, please don't take me as being rude. Stark's silver and red armour is called the Silver Centurion armour, not sentinel. And the Iron Patriot isn't part of the Ultimate Universe, he's from the regular good-ol' 616 universe.

But these are looking cool! I'm excited to see your command squad. I would love to see armoured versions of all these characters. Any idea for weaponry loadouts? Will they be character specific (Ie. Wolverine with Lightning Claws, Hawkeye as maybe a scout or something with a Sniper Rifle, Black Knight as the company champion)?

I have every intention of going through a tutorial on how to make the helmet. It will have to be in a few days though. I have an hour from when I get up to when I have to leave for work 5-6, work from 7-7, get home by 745, put daughter to bed 830, shower and eat, 930 bed 1030. Very little time to do much on the 4 days I work a week. I will be coming up on some vacation on Friday. Plan on working on it then. Thanks everyone again for your enthusiasm.

Oddly enough, I know dimp about comics. I just did it for the paint scheme and got carried away. Although I do have a lot of friends who read comics. But I will be doing other Avengers characters from mulitple universes. Wolverine (2 lightning claws) Iron Patriot as company champion with shield, Thor thunder hammer and BP, Maybe Hawkeye as the Space Marine scout special character. Been about a year since I worked on them at all. Due to all the responses, views, and feedback, I think I will start working on them as well as my orks.

This is looking pretty cool.

I'm guessing the Hulkbuster is going to be a Dreadnought? Probably go with Iron Clad or even the Librarian one from BA if you go with their book.

Yeah, I was thinking of either making the hulkbuster either being a Furioso or an Iron Clad. That all depends on which army I am going to play them as. My big thing is that I am not a real good converter. I haven't really tried converting Marines before. The whole clean cut and straight lines thing is lost on me. I contemplated having someone do it for me, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I have a few ideas. If anyone has any ideas feel free to contribute. Pretty happy with the way the hand came out. Big thing is getting the "thigh" and the "bicep" Also, Helmet. Anyone with ideas, please feel free to help. 4 days of 16 hour work days drain brain. Not even a zombie would want me at this point.

What did you use to make the paint change color?

I actually ordered some Duplicolor Mirage paint I ordered off the internet. Kinda expensive, but worth it.

As a comic nerd the Idea of using a marvel icon's colour scheme for the SM makes sense to me.
The Iron man Varient covers released earlier this year yeilded some interesting takes on the old Avenger.
I love your terminators.
Have you considered doing Dreadnauts as the original Silver or Gold MkI armour?

I was thinking about that, or possibly as some other special character, or something. The Silver MKI and MKII are not really much bigger than the newer versions of the suit. I had contemplated fielding the leader of a squad of terminators as the original silver, and maybe the gold as another. Also, I had tried to convince a friend to do his chaos army painted to look like Dr. Doom, and his Doombot army. No such luck. And in order to get the color as red and shiney as possible, I prime them Krylon mettalic brilliant silver, and then do a top coat of Krylon X metals red. The first few I primed white, painted silver, and then spent days inking red. This new technique can do the base coat of 10 models in a matter of minutes. Hopefully Friday I can get back to work.

This is one of the best theme armies I've seen in quite some time. Hell, stuff like this is what I love about the hobby. Just seeing what creative stuff people do when they get an idea.
