Hi,
"Secret Weapon" has some new Pith Helmet heads on preorder, sculpted by His Royal Highness, Col. Gravis himself. It's 5 heads for 5$:

As Praetorian threads are rare, here a selection of other Praetorian bitz:

Own some of the Praetorian bits he sculpted and about 200 GW Praetorians. I'll get motivated when I find some good steam punk AFVs, or finish my Steel Legion, or........

Col. G, sculpt legs wearing kilts. I want them for my vets.

Oh wow. I love the new conversion kits, although I have enough GW praetorians for now.

I fell in love with the Sikh turban heads with gas masks. Does anybody know how they'd look on the Wargames factory british bodies?

Bit of a warning

Wargames Factory is a true scale company with only their greatcoats being heroic scale so plopping on lasguns and such on their bodies would look very mis matched with the sizes and vice versa

I've seen some Wargames Factory models used for conversions and they're way too small. The Ramshackle parts on the other hand, sadly look like the products of a different era. Ten years ago, they'd have been adequate, not so much today.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

The Zulu Wars stuff from Wargames Factory looks great. I bought a box of the Longcoat Troopers from the Shock Troops range at FTW Games in Richmond, VA last weekend and they are fantastic, even better looking when you get your hands on the sprues. In fact, they are so good I wasn't able to hang onto them, my son ended up with them.

It's important to note that the longcoat troopers are of a different scale to WGF's historicals, since the former are implicitly designed to be used in 40k.

Yup. Though at the forums, people are wondering what ranges are gonna be what scale. so far it seems pre ww1 truescale, and everything else is gonna be heroic to match the coats. thats if they are doing any moderns/etc (they did show some US infantry stuff some time ago)

The Ramshackle heads are 10 for 3$ and the cheap shiny resin doesn't do them a favor.
Painted they look okay:

I like the new heads from Col Gravis. Been itching to make an all plastic/resin Praetorian army ever since the Cadians were released....and after making the regrettable decision of selling my previous collection of 100+ Praetorian models a few years back :(

The Ramshackle heads look good except when they're compared to real Praetorian heads which makes their helmets look too small by comparison. Getting those GW proportions seem tricky.

I own some of the rough rider sculpts that Col. Gravis produced. I used the Wargames Factory heads on them, and while just a bit small they looked OK. Now that Gravis has his heads out, I am seriously debating on how many to buy.

Hmmm.. I forsee getting back to painting my Praetorian IG soonish.

Yeah the ramshakle games heads look off - all the helmets seem to be different sizes and shapes and the gas masks look like someone has just mashed some GS on the face and called it a day - and again are all different sizes and shapes. They may be cheap, but they look cheap too.

The turban heads look much better done, though not really to my taste.

Rather flattering reading the thread, thankyou!

Regarding the new heads released by Secret Weapon and my old components available from TrooperPX, they are not designed to be compatible, though they should work okay with a bit of fiddling - I'm planning new Cavalry kits based around the new heads.

Always at your service, Sar!
Are the new sculpts intended for a Secret Weapon release, and will infantry be available as well some time in the future? Maybe with Kilts?

Warlord Games wrote:Preview: Plastic Anglo-Zulu Wars British!

Those of you who attending Salute 2011 in London earlier this year will have seen the 3-ups of our forthcoming Anglo-Zulu Wars range. Kicking things off with the British Redcoats here’s the first preview of the range – a range produced in concert with Empress Miniatures…

Warlord Games and Empress Miniatures are very proud to announce a new hard plastic range for the 1879 Zulu War. The two companies have formed a partnership in order to pool our talents and resources on this project to create what we all believe will be a truly superb range of plastic figures designed to compliment Empress Miniatures current metal AZW range.

Some of you may have been quick enough to spot some examples of the three ups at Salute. These were the initial sculpts and since then more development has taken place to ensure that these figures will be the best around. As you can see from the accompanying photographs the range will include British Regulars, but do not fear as there will also be packs of both married and unmarried Zulus (we’ll show these off very soon!), as well as Natal Native Contingent.

Release date should be Autumn 2011 for the first boxed sets – we will keep you posted on the developments of this exciting range.

The turbaned ones are rather cool and would work on flaggellant bodies for some desert themed IG.

The stuff by Col. Gravus is indeed superb.

Praetorian conversion parts sculpted by Col. Gravis: http://www.bartertown.com/trading/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=87669

Some news: These Resin Praetorian conversion parts are no longer available.

Col.Gravis, the original sculptor of these parts, made a first replacement set, the metal Praetorian Roughriders conversion kit: http://colgravis.blogspot.com/p/praetorian-roughriders-for-sale.html
Let's hope that some day in the future, there will also be a standard Praetorian guardsman conversion kit.

Hmm.

Certainly nice stuff, and certainly there's a niche market for Pratorian stuff but I worry the good Colonel is going to get in trouble.

Although they are OOP GW can claim a trademark on the name Praetorians for mini gaming, and a copyright on the design (the tunics, the eagle on the breast).

They cannot claim a trademark on Steampunk Victorians from Preatoria nor a copyright on historic British uniforms but I think these hew much too close to GW's IP.
