Been Around the Block

Hey everyone -- sorry if this has already been answered I tried a search on the forum and the search engine doesn't appear to be too helpful.
I'm trying to magnetize some space hulk termies for dual action in space hulk and 40k and would appreciate any tips for how to do it, or in the alternative, a link to some helpful previous discussion.
Thanks
BL

Looks like the Article in the "Articles" section does not relate to magetizing bases. Any thoughts?

It's pretty easy.
1. Buy some magnets. The rare earth type are the strongest. You can easily order them online. You probably want a 4mm disc magnet for this job.
2. Drill a 4mm hole in the base of the Space Hulk figure.
3. Drill a matching hole in the 40mm round base.
4. Cement a magnet in the base of the Space Hulk model. At this stage it doesn't matter about the polarity, but it will be crucial in the next stage.
5. Attach another magnet to the first one. This ensures the polarities are matched. If you reverse the polarity, then obviously the magnets will repel each other.
6. Mark the second magnet's unattached face with a black marker.
7. Cement the second magnet into the 40mm base, making sure that the black side goes in downwards.
8. For bonus points, build up the 40mm base and decorate it to conceal the edge of the Space Hulk base.
If you don't want to do the drilling, I think the rare earth magnets are probably strong enough to hold the two pieces together even if they are not in contact. This would let you cement one on top of the Space Hulk base and the other inside the 40mm base. If you try this and find it is not strong enough, just add more pairs of magnets.

Thanks for the reply. I thought it might be pretty straight forward but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask those with actual experience. I'm gonna tr to get some of these magnets online.

I actually wrote up an article here on magnetizing terminators a while ago. Hopefully it helps.

*EDIT: My article doesn't address doing bases, but the basics there may still help
