Saw something made up like this at a convention over the past weekend and knew I had to make up a couple for the FLGS. Right now one side of the box is not glued in yet, and I'm going to put a couple of gears behind the wires visible inside the open hatch. Need to dremel the plasticard on the bottom more flush with the sides. Fill in the gaps on the top of the box with Green Stuff. Maybe another assorted detail or two depending on the C&C here. After this one is done I want to get a larger case fan or two to go with a larger building.

Put some chicken wire over that fan. That's just asking for an on the job accident, leaving a spinning fan like that open. Other than that I like it!

One of the big city tables at Warhammer World in Nottingham uses those kind of fans in the same way, it's pretty effective. They have a large Adeptus Mechanicus logo in the middle of the fan which looks pretty good so I'd suggest something like that.

Nice work.

Most small computer fans won't have enough torque to hurt you but it might be good to cover the fan to protect it from damage.

For some reason it never occurred to me to make the fan powered and functional, so no worries about hurting yourself. As this was my initial small test version, and I want to make at least one more and bigger at that, and with the number of comments here and at the FLGS about working fans and lighting I'll have to see about making that happen.

@Attomsk: Lol, I was kidding about it actually being a hazard. I guess what I meant is that if it were what is was meant to be life-size, there would be a grate over it to prevent people from falling in or for them to walk above it to work on it, which is why if you add chicken wire over it as grating it would fit much better than just having the fan completely open.

+1, sir. Assuming, of course, it spins. You might want to consider how air is going to flow in from the bottom, though, as if the fan starts generating a vacuum underneath it, it will be hard on the motor.

Does OSHA exist in the Imperium? lol...

seriously, nice work. I've been thinking of something similar myself, maybe making a couple as geothermal venting systems around a power plant or something like that... and the cable sare a nice touch, too, maybe some heavy washing will make them look grungy?

I like,a computer fan?looking at the top pic, could maybe add a elbow tube from the circle vent going to the fan, just a thought.

And you may not want to kill the plasticard underneath, rather, try and expand it, so that you have a clear boundary of difficult terrain around the system, then you can add some debris to it, unless you're looking for a less demolished look...
