Journeyman Inquisitor with Visions of the Warp
|
Hi people , just wanted to get some inspiration to finish this board game i created a while ago, its based on Alien the film but could be easily played with genestealers , and imperial guard.
Its 2 to 8 players and its basically the same as the movie one player plays the alien the other players the crew, you start off ( if alien as chest burster) and have to escap to safety then hunt down other crew members who need to work together to trap you in the airlock and blast you into space , via air vents you need at least 2 crew members players alive to trap the alien so its a race against time to hunt it down whilst the alien picks you off one by one , if only one crew member is left , he/she has to set the bomb and escape the nostromo via the shuttle narcissus , there are equipment and event cards to make things more intreresting like the android Ash going crazy and trying to kill every one ect.. i did a lot of research for this game and even contacted fox who never replied ! Any advice appreciated ideas on gameplay ect

I definitely will. I love writing rules/play testing. You should check out some of the forum games we've been working on in the Survivor Games board. Genestealer! (the original game is called Mafia!/Werewolf) http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/309946.page --> this one is Horus Heresy themed but Thor's first game involved Genestealers Heretic! (another 40k-themed version of Mafia!/Werewolf) http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/265116.page Strategic Survivor (StratS) http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/301984.page Team Survivor (TeamS) http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/309016.page

These games don't have a tremendous amount of roleplaying--so far . . . I have some ideas about that. But they are fun. Keep an eye on that board for game sign ups. There's actually one going on righth now for a Team Survivor game.

It's a pdf that let's you print out paper terrain. Looks like it would be perfect for your game. You might also see the rest of their "Guncrawl" line . . .

yeah there very nice, i did research this company as well , but i dindnt see the vehicles then they must be new , i already have a few cardboard space hulk floor plans from pdf's , i will investigate these more when i get chance , though i have a feeling it will lend itself to an aliens rather than alien game. the board i have designed is specificaly a map of the original pinewood stdios set, from the original blueprints. So they have to be custom made , unfortunately. Fortunately i am graphic designer so i just have to pay for printing ; -), but them cryochambers look very similar, too big for my map though i think because i need 8 , but there is potential there for chucking together a little quick game though.

It's pretty impressive that the "board" matches the set. It'd be awesome to have a game night where you watch the movie and then play, maybe while listening to the awesomely creepy soundtrack. I'm psyched to read over the rules when you get a chance.
Have you played any Descent by any chance?

The basic concept may be suitable for your game.

After i finished my research on it , i knew every inch of the movie set, , watching the film again brigns a completeley different feel, you know where everthing is in relation to each other, it was tricky though bacause the nostromo is pretty huge with 3 disticnt levels , plus air locks. a friend suggested instead of having 3 different maps have one map with 3 corridoors for each deck a b and c . it works pretty well beacause the floors are directly under neath each other so its a similar layout on each deck , and the crew use ladders to climb between decks , in the companionways. ( just the rooms are in different positions) it's kinda cool because ron cobb the designer of the ship , made it very real.
Your doing a great job at getting me excited about this project again, its being over 2 years since i worked on it
( i have a habit of starting projects doing all the hard work and then leaving them unfinished!
i will need to reread all my data and try to catch up where i left off from , will post the beta rules and a map with paper characters soon as i find them , if i finished them , could actually do with a hand on the rules i think , i have a tendancy to overcomplicate things , and this game should be short and sweet, hunter v's hunted any ideas welcome
edit : just remembered the core gameplay , The crew start off at the galley with no equipment , only knives and forks in the galley and they must search for and kill the alien chest burster before it reaches an air vent / nearly impposible moves too fast , then the alien player must survive/ avoid being killed untill he matures , ie 3 turns or so but has the advantage of speed and air vents , it can enter an air vent on deck c retracted claw room for eg ( alien is placed on a seperate air vent space) and exit the next turn in any room on the ship eg deck A MU -TH - ER , but not companionways (corridoors) , whilst this happens the crew have 3 turns to gather the neccesary equipment to capture attack or deffend against the alien. Build flamers , lock doors , movement trackers ect . if more players are available tactics can come into play , eg Parker wants the flamer but only bret can make it , there are very limited suplies, and the crew needs to work together to kill or flush the alien out of the airlock. but ou can go for glory and attempt to kill the alien yourself so you are the winner, adds a bit of competion as well as survival, you have to watch your back for selfish players as well. the crew cant really kill the alien or have little chance if seprated and no weapons so the best thing they can do is trap it in the air lock , can only be done with one person with a flamer and someon eles controling the airlock doors , you basicly have to force it towards the airlock , and not let it escape into a room
easier if you have more players left alive . if after 3 succesfull push's the alien is in the airlock , you win , ! if alien kills eveyone it wins , if anyone escpaes in the narcissus shuttle craft , and the alien is still alive its a draw. I was also thinking of letting the crew player control ash untill a random card lets the alien player control him , so you basicly can't rely on him.
thats about all i can remember from the top of my head, basicly the game works better i think with more players , because it adds competition, it's about being an agressor or a teamplayer, you need to be selfish to get the best equipment to survive but you also need to rely on our shipmates for help , but whoever kills the alien wins , i think.
any how its late so , this will do .
BTW Not tried that game , sound fun and similar to i have going on with this ,
