The paint looks a little thick, but the models look pretty good.

What competition? Golden Demon? Sadly, No.
A local painting contest, maybe if no one else around painted.
I mean, I won first place in a local fair with this

where school clubs, total noobs or advanced players go against each other with a 600 point army
2 troop
1 hq
1 elite
1 fast attack or heavy support
the rest can be spent on troop or hq
first time my school entered in it, but apparently the winners for 4 ars in a row like to cheat

I would say that you need to give them a dark blue wash or even a black wash that should help the details pop out more

alright, well you've painted 600 points. That's the good news. Most people don't even get this far.
Here's what I suggest, and this is very general advice:
For each major color in your color scheme (Blue, White, Metal) you want 2-3 different shades. White an metal are a bit weird, so I'll explain those.
White: There are some tutorials online on Cool mini or not which are helpful, but in general try this for the helmets: Start by painting the white area's Fortress Grey. Second, paint any area that isn't a crease in the armor with Skull White. This will shade the creases.
Metal: Paint the area that will be metal in with Chaos Black. This is explained in detail here
http://www.how-to-paint-miniatures.com/miniature_painting_drybrushing.html
This will take longer to paint, but you will have a beautiful army.

Your starting off good, but ii have a few tips for you to improve the look of your models..
for this example i am using my libraian..( painted him in a day.)
Gold: cover the area you want to paint gold with graveyard earth- then you apply shining gold- highlight raised areas with a mix of shining gold and mithril silver- wash with dabab black.
Armor: paint ultra blue- highlight with 1:4 white:ultra blue wash with dabab black in recessed areas and in heavely detailed areas.
Skin: paint skin color- highlight with a lighter skin color- wash with dabab black
Metal: paint area black- paint metal- highlight with mithrill silver- wash with dabab black
red:paint red- lighten red with whight and apply this as a highlight- wash with dabab black
white:paint with some sort of a gray/blue- paint white everywhere except creases.
On a side note if you dont feel confident enough with a brush skip the highlighting steps, and yes all my models a washed with dabab black except the tanks.
