The ironback spitter is a reptilian monstrosity from the deepest reaches of western Immoren’s swamps and marshes. A towering, turtle-like creature, the ironback is armed with a fearsome beak and two mighty claws, each capable of rending flesh, bone, and even steel. Its most dangerous attack, however, is a blast of corrosive venom that can reduce enemies to bubbling pools of noxious slime in a matter of seconds.

Disciplined soldiers armed with massive, belt-fed cannons, trollkin sluggers walk the battlefield blazing through ranks of foes with a withering hail of bullets. Enemy infantry is cut down in droves, and even the mightiest warbeast eventually succumbs to the concentrated fire of the sluggers’ relentless cannons.

Like most pp stuff these days, this is pretty meh. The head looks pretty dumb. It has a bunch of bony ridges around its large over sized head, and yet, its mouth is completely free of any teeth. Another fail by privateer press.

Those guns look really good, would work great for some stubbers. I wonder how seperate they are. Would be nice to be able to order some from the bits store if they are not too attached to the rest of the model.

I see that Privateer still hasn't learned that most people don't want only three different poses in a five model box.

I also see that Privateer has now become more expensive than GW... $45,- for the five Trolls, damn.

Not really. About the same price as Terminators, in fact.

You get alot more stuff/possibilities in that box of Terminators then you do with the 5 trollkin though.

I dig the turtle thing. I like that PP isn't afraid to make some truly bizzare models that separate them from the competition. They could just be like damn near every other miniature companies and milk the hell out of tired and true fantasy/sci-fi archetypes, but they choose not to, and do it pretty well.

I'd get into PP games if I didn't have 2 systems(and its Specialist offshoots) already draining my wallet.

Yes really.

Privateer's metal boxes, their new releases, are $10 more expensive than GW's boxes like Sternguard and Legion of the Damned, which are $35,-. The new Incubi are $30,-. The metal Ork boxes are $37,- and WHF Chaos chosen boxes are $33,-. Most of these GW models have a lot more detail also, and let's not forget five unique poses opposed to Privateer's three.

Their new ten model plastics boxes are also more expensive, $50,- compared to for example the much-maligned Goldswords and their $41,25 price tag. Ten Space Marines cost $37,25 and ten Kabalite Warriors $24,75.

You took one of the few GW boxes priced about the same and used it as an example. Round of applause to yourself

But this one looks like it should. The prominent jaw and lack of teeth make me think "elderly man", not "bone-crushing beak".

And again, whilst I can appreciate the models, more 'meh' from PP I'm afraid.

There is nothing wrong with them per se, but they just have no 'wow' factor whatsoever. Safe sculpts, and this is letting them down.

No, I took a box of models the same size as said trollkin. 40mm base, not the 28mm that Sternguard, etc. use. Mega-Armored Nobs would also be a good choice, or Tyranid warriors ($12-20/head). For small based models, I'd look at PP's Bloodrunners or Battle Mages, which are $35/$30 for a box of 6.

Their new ten model plastics boxes are also more expensive, $50,- compared to for example the much-maligned Goldswords and their $41,25 price tag. Ten Space Marines cost $37,25 and ten Kabalite Warriors $24,75.

The only ten model plastic box is the Fennblades, which are, again, on 40mm bases and filling the entire thing.

You get alot more stuff/possibilities in that box of Terminators then you do with the 5 trollkin though.

True, that. Of course, you're paying $5 more for the Termies, and sans magnets or molds you're still getting the same amount of models out of the box. The extra bits are somewhat irrelevant to Privateer's system, of course, due to the lack of customization of unit wargear, but you do definitely lose out on some conversion fodder.

Pretty ropey paint job on the Spitter, I think I'll wait and see the real thing before deciding.

Has anyone seen if the Spitter is definitely usable by Gator Warlocks.

Blindwater can use any amphibious warbeasts, so I'd think it's virtually guaranteed to work for 'em. That, and without Blindwater, the poor guy doesn't have a place to go.

Yes but the 'Gatorman Warlock' rule (as possessed by Barnabas and Wrong Eye) only allows 'Minion Gatorman Warbeasts' in their battlegroups.

The Spitter sure dont' look like a Gatorman to me.

It is not about the base size, but the size of the actual model.

I have a Space Wolf Grey Hunter and a Kriel Warrior right here in front of me, and without the bases the Kriel is only slightly larger.

But the pricing of the Terminators is certainly rediculous even within GW's own range (compared to for example the content of a WHF Chaos Knights box).

Ah, but we aren't talking about Kriel Warriors, are we. A quick comparison shows that the sluggers are slightly shorter than the Terminator, while the Fenn Blades (the closest plastic comparison) are a fair bit taller, while Warriors are a bit taller than the Fenn Blades.

Mind you, if you want to talk about the Kriel Warriors, I don't think you'll find a trollkin player who won't complain about their price tag and pray for a nice plastic resculpt.

But the pricing of the Terminators is certainly rediculous even within GW's own range (compared to for example the content of a WHF Chaos Knights box).

Goalposts shifting a bit, eh? You merely said that PP was more expensive than GW. Looking at comparable models, (Ogryn, Terminators, Tyranid Warriors) the trollkin are still a tad cheaper per head, especially when compared plastic to plastic and metal to metal. Anyhow, Terminators are pretty much on par, if not cheap, for 5 40mm based models. IG Ogryn, for instance, run $20 a head, while Tyranid Warriors run $35 for a box of 3.

You two better stop sniping at each other before a MOD comes along and closes the thread. You are both correct. The models from both companies have increased to what most consider ludicrous amounts, but they pay anyway so it really doesn't matter now does it. If either of you where truly bothered by the prices you would stop purchasing. It seems that neither of you have stopped so this argument of size versus price is rather a moot point.

Back on topic. The turtle critter is rather odd, but kinda cool. The Trolls are made of win as far as I see. The females with bandannas are awesome. That being said I wont be purchasing either as the prices that these companies charge have pushed beyond my comfort level. I shall admire from afar.

The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude.
