Here is my Proposed Markerlight Updated rules for 5th Edition. Looking for feedback.

Markerlight
Rng: 36" S: - AP: - Type: Heavy 1

Standard - Only benefits the operators unit.
Networked - Allows other units to benefit from markerlight. *Higher Cost*

Benefits
  • Allow markerlight operator to initiate the launch of a mounted seeker missile at the designated marked unit. Roll D6 and on a 2+ the missile hits the intended target.
  • Allow operator to mark a unit for the firing unit only to benefit a +1 BS when shooting at the marked unit. Stack-able benefit up to a BS of 5.
  • Allows markerlight operator to impose a -1 Leadership penalty for purposes of pinning tests imposed by operators unit. Multiple counters can be expended to a cumulative modifier.
  • Allows markerlight operator to impose a -1 penalty on any cover saves the marked unit has from the firing unit. Multiple counters can be expended to a cumulative modifier
  • Allows markerlight operator to mark unit and allow firing unit no need to take any stealth or night fighting rolls to hit marked unit.
  • *Networked Markerlight Only* Allows operator to highlight landing zone for deep striking unit and reduce scatter to 1 D6. Landing Zone must be with in 36" LOS range of Markerlight Operator. Benefit NOT cumulative
  • *Networked Markerlight Only* Allows operator to highlight marked unit for blast weapons and reduce scatter to 1 D6. Benefit NOT cumulative

Yeah I have it so you still roll to see if the Missile hits. So one roll for the markerlight hit and a second on a 2+ to see if the missile hits. It feels like a gamble with 2 rolls on such a expendable weapon.

I hope in 5th they at alter the seeker missile a little. Such as on a roll of a 6 to hit the target the seeker missile counts as a lance weapon.

It makes Pathfinders less useful than before because they have standard marker lights and their built in weapons are weak.

There is only one G weapon in the Tau arsenal and you can only have one of them in the army.

The idea about marking a landing zone is nice.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Then the suggestion would be to alter pathfinders to networked.
