I wanted to do something a bit different from the traditional princess with Jakob Nielsen's great little model (http://www.runicminiatures.dk/shop/img.php?model=RM009&num=1) and since it was the season for something witchy and gothic, I went with that. The princess fits the theme very well with zero conversion, though I was tempted to replace the frog with a skull or snip off the pennants to make the hat more witchlike.

For the purple especially, I wanted a velvet or satin high contrast feel. They eyes, which are big for conventional styles of painting model eyes, were perfect for a gem effect. I decided for a "real" eye on the staff, but wanted a bit more orange in that region and hit on the idea to do an amphibian shaped pupil to tie in with the frog (should have been sideways...).

The model itself had very little flash and the only flaw was a small bubble on the bottom of the eye/sphere on the wand. Overall, it has very nice definition and is good to paint. The back of the model is perhaps a little on the plain/limited texture side, but no one really looks at the back anyway and it let me finish up faster. The boxy shoes were a bit of a challenge to decide how to highlight, but I like how they came out in the end. They're very clog-like and pretty cool in shape. Fun model to paint, if a bit stressful because I am so rusty!

Agreed - her face is exceptional! I like the highlights and color of the familiar as well.

Thanks guys! Fun to do something totally different from wargaming stuff for a change. I am looking forward to painting some of Jakob's other whimsical models.

Great job scarab, ....... you realise though that he did this sculpt for his daughter. She was the inspiration for a lot of it, though I get the joke.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Fanny can mean a womans private area in the Uk, I have seen it used as a name b4 so i wasnt laughin like a school kid when i realised it. I did however laugh at it the 1st time I heard of somebody being called Fanny.

I heard a great story from a woman who moved to the US and heard a mother say to her daughter that he she kept behaving in such a naughty way that she was "going to smack her fanny."

Needless to say, Fiona got very heated with the other woman until the misunderstanding was resolved.

Well, if it helps, my nephew's name is Racy. We tried convincing my cousin that it's not really a good idea, to no avail.

Yes I did note that it was for his daughter and yes it is a girls' name, rather out of fashion here but was popular back in the 18th-19th centuries.
Sorry it tickled me at the time but no offence to the sculptor nor especially his little girl was intended..

is still a nice little sculpt though I prefer what Scarab has done with it.

The Sculptor that does all the Runic models is a tad good
with some sweet work up for sale.

Really fantastic, I love her. As I said in one of the image comments, managing to bring such dark colours up to such bright strong highlights without detracting from the overall scheme is really difficult, and you pulled it off very well.

Scarab pointed my toward the thread.
I didn't realise that the name had such uses! Thanks a lot for pointing it out, though.
I've changed the name to Little Princess which should be innocent enough.

Here is my own version of the mini - more classic fairytale - not as sinister as Scarabs (which I find really cool btw).

Gotta do a Halloween-version myself. Or maybe paint har up as a goth.
