Hey guys, pretty stuck for ideas now on converting my guard and thought i would seek the advice of you fine people!
been playin about abit with my infantry and to be honest, im bored of the Lasgun, personally i prefer the loom of the autogun but seein as there a B**tard to get hold of now i have desided tyo tweak and mess about with my dudes Lasguns
so far i have made lasgun/grenade launcher combo's, sniper variation and in the process of tweaking a squad assualt weapon version

not quite sure what else i can do without just replacing the lasgun with a different weapon altogether

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Take a look at some of the modern guns and draw some inpsiration from them. The Vostroyan Lasguns have a Wooden body and stock. I've made Suppressors for my Marine's bolters by putting the round ends of the tiny "sprue" part that comes with the round bases on the barrels. Alternatively give the guns a foldable stock with a tiny strip of plasticard, or a different stock with some greenstuff.

) i originally wanted the autoguns becuase there are 40K's answer to the M16 lol, i want my army to have a modern feel to it, and the "elite" sections of my army (storm troops, drop troopers) have more special looking weapons, things like MP5 looking guns and M4's with flashlights and supressors, that folding stock sounds like a good idea as the army is half light role infantry and half mechanised so the carrier troops would be look cool with folding stock weapons, thanks for the help buddy, back to the drawing board as it were!

I'm a converter at heart and my Space Marine Command Squad all have personalised weapons. The Deathwatch Veteran possesses a pair of Bolters with CC bayonets, and one of them is suppressed. In-game it counts as a single Storm Bolter. My Chaplain also has a suppressed bolt pistol, and it's one of his most noticable features. It's really fun when you get into it.

Im relatively new to converting guardsmen, as i get the ideas but cant put it to into reality, at the risk of sounding big headied i think i did okay making assault rifles out of a lasgun lol, i did similiar things with my marine army as you, all my veterans and command squad have weapons unique to them as with there armour.....well the guys are special so they got to stand out right?

The ones you did above are quite good. There is potential to go further with them though. However I think you should reserve the really detailed conversions for Veterans, as convertion some 100+ models like that will be very tedious and time consuming.

the squad in pictures above were to test myself to see if i can do it lol, and i have run out of ideas to take them further, which why i admitted defeat and sought out advice of peoples like yourself, you are right though a whole guard army of converted models is just to much even for a hardcore converter let only some one who just starting out like me! i may tweak indivual squads, pistol holster here and there, maybe change the stance of the guy but nothing to major, for my vets i had to idea or elite shock troops (SAS, Spetznas and SWAT and such) for one group and griizled vets who been through hell and back for the others, i like your idea for the supressors, sprues are great source of random tweaking, thank you for that idea....i may borrow that for future converting!

One of the suggestions I gave to someone else was to use Empire Riflemen Rifles in place of the lasguns. The wooden stock resemble Lasguns, and adding the barrels from the cadian version yields a very good result. Alternatively, make a custom gun and cast it (BLACKHAND has a tutorial on that) which can make the entire thing alot easier.

i do like the sound of making a custom gun and casting it, i can pretty much mass produce them in effect then, though im sure will take me awhile to be happy with end result! thanks for the advice dude

i wish it was in my blood! make it easy for ideas then lol, how are you for vehical conversions? i plan to make my chimera's look more like bradley and warrior APC's or modern day army's, any tips and pearls of wisdom you could impart on that would be great! i have made my rather small collection of Leman Russ's look like British Challenger 2 tanks (after about 20 attempts and many days and night or swearing out loud)

Thank you for the link mate, i will eventually get round to puttin up the pictures of my leman/challenger squadron when i get my camera to work again! all i did to work on min was buy a tank model from airfix and losely base my 40K tank on it, pinching a part from the airfix kit here and there, i wish you all the best for your tank conversion

Other than picking up some actual M-16s you seem to be covering all the bases. SMG, carbine (with or without folding stock), assault rifle, sniper rifle, LMG.

Finally managed to sort of finish the SAW viariant of the Lasgun, basically a SM sternguard veterans Bolter with barrel clipped off, a cadian lasgun forgun plus green stuff to make it bulkier and a catachan lasguns barrel, shall perfect it over time lol

only problem for me is lasguns dont fire bullets so the magazine needs changing, also you could disguise the chamber for the empty shell ejection?

the SAW variant i had in mind it firing solid rounds like an autogun or heavy stubber, the assault rifles variants i'm thinking of adding cocking handles and ejection ports, the sniper is a long las so thats all sweet as it is, but i welcome your comments as i hadnt really thought about it at first so thank you

No, this is good. Clip off the tip of the lasgun and then drill out the barrel. Lasgun -> autogun.

finally got the SAW onto a mini, its just a rough fit to guage scale and that, in my opinion it looks far to bulky for a normal guardsman to be carryin, but maybe a crouched or prone stance with a bi-pod, i may have a replacement for the squads heavybolter that fits in with the light infantry role, please comment and criticise, i can take it lol

@deadalus - that was my original plan, but i never liked the bulkiness of heavy bolters with guardsmen, Marines and vehicals yeah but cadians no lol, i decided to make a compact heavy bolter based losely on the M249 and the M60

i dont think the pose the mini has looks right with the gun, hence why i think a prone firing position would look better, the gun itself didnt look tht big until i blu tacked it onto the mini and i then thought...oooo not sure it was meant to be tht big! lol

it's not so much the pose but the size of the gun and the magazine. it looks like a grenade launcher with a drum feed if you take away the barrel.

decided to try triming down the weapons casing, i've never been a big fan of the uber heriocally huge weapons, any ideas???

The SAW looks good. My only problem with is is that it is a bit front heavy. The barrel looks great as does the receiver, but I think you added too uch front stock from the lasgun. If you look at modern squad support weapons, especially the M60, the front is actually quite spindly to allow for quick barrel changes. Maybe try trimming back the front grip a bit?

i agree with you on this one Flinty, i have been trimming it back gradually with a file to see if i can get it just right, pictures are to come lol
