So here it finally is, its been a long journey since last year back when I could hardly paint a straight line. Ever since I discovered 40k and played a dumbed down version over my neighbor's house I was always interested in the night lords, i loved their back story and art in the 3rd ed codex and even though GW has given choas the shaft in the newest edition I still read the novels and am adamant in my decesion to field them.

So here it goes, this army is always changing I actually sold it all off at one point and totally restarted. I am never really happy with the way most of my stuff is but recently here is the rundown.

The 23rd company of Night Lords back before the heresy had been one of Nostromo's most beloved legions, tasked with the security of the homeworld itself. However the legion eventually grew tired of the lack of combat and their leader brother sargent Liuscas decided to declare war on the many underhive gangs that plagued Nostromo, arguing that "If crime and suffering is rampant on our doorstep, how could we ever fathom to tame the galaxy?". The legion broke ground in numerous cities and hives, utterly eradicating many gangs and instilling an uneasy peace in the rougher parts of their planet. The legions fall from grace began with the heresy, originally loyalist the legion was mortified when their home world was destroyed and the imperium thrown into chaos. Liuscas, ripe with rage and loss declared his legion an enemy of everything, stole the chapter relic "The unlife" and fled deep into realspace.

Not much was heard from the legion in the years after the heresy, some members were involved in small skirmishes with The eldar and imperial contingents but nothing was ever gained. The legion has been slowly fading away, lacking the artificers, sefs, navigators and simple manpower to run what little vessels they have left. It seemed that the legion was doomed and the recent decree of exterminus placed upon them by General Garadek of the Tersian Hellfighters imperial guard company had pinpointed their location to a small frozen mass of rock outside the Storian sector. This frozen shard of rock had actually at one time been a part of mighty Nostromo, and the legion sought refuge there as a nostalgic rememberance to the homeworld they once protected. However, other astartes were lurking in the shadows as well.

Kadrak's Great Wolves were once a part of the 15th company of space wolves. However, due to their unorthodox practices and obsession with the warp, they were exiled, and marooned on this unknown fragment of Nostromo. Years passes and the cold depths of deep space created a wintry frozen climate on this Half-World. Through the years the Great wolves decended futher into blastphemy and decadence, the blood god took a great interest in the astarte's plight and offered his services. Soon many marines went mad with bloodlust, they became brezerkers and had to be chained in their rhino transports when not in battle. The leader of the company, self proclaimed prophet Kadrak the shadowcrafter has claimed rule over what he calls his world. In reality Kadrak is a paranoid and psychotic man, he is hardly seen outside his extensive ring of bodyguards and advisors, his mind is constantly invaded by the blood god and he is well aware or what Khrone is doing to his warband.

Well here is the introductory fluff, I havent thought up how its going to play out, but it involves all of the minis I currently own, My IG, my Night lords, and a bunch of random space wolf converted guts I made a while back. If anybody has suggesstions, corrections, advice I am glad to hear it out.

So here are the pictures, this is a small sample of what I have, I also have this extensive dreadnought project I need someone to help me out with, so PM me if you think you might be interested.

Nice use of the loyalist SM kits for your Raptors and Havocs. But may I ask where you got the big axe/halberd thingy wielded by Liuscas?

I took the arm holding the staff from the Chaos arine 10 man kit, cut a VC skeleton warrior sword for the top spike and the scythe blade was an old DE raider piece that I cut and attached.

I usually suck at conversions, but this one was extremly successful. The icon pole piece from the chaos kit can be turned into any polearm type weapon for SM's with just a little bit of conversion work.

A lot of nice stuff. I like the idea with the lightnings on the Predator autocanon barrel. Considered it as stolen But in one point you can´t be serious. Why in the Dark Four´s names has the Land Raider stil the imperial eagle on it´s tracks?

I think you need some more highlighting on those.

Join the Imperial Guard. The pay's lousy, the battles fierce and you probably won't ever come back again. BUT you get a lasgun.

They look pretty darn good. You should think about adding some edge-highlighting... it'll really give some life to your figs and make them "pop"... especially with the purple as your base you need something to bring up the volume a bit.

IT is tough to say ho whtye look, the lighting makes it had to pick out details. The DP picture is the best one (on a white background) so a few more shots of that would be great.

Sorry about my crappy pics, I took them in front of this big red tupperware box and it made the pics all red, I'll take alot more pics tommorow and post em.

I have tried doing highlights, and I just can't do it correctly, they look dark because of the red background, ill get some new pics in front of white.

And i think I have the dread project commisioned out to someone but they are very busy at the moment, basically it involves making a dread out of this

(last Picture in the thread)

If anyone would be interested in that let me know, I could offer you a ton of unused chaos and guard minis plus whatever bits I can fine.

As I said before, someone said they would do it but they are really backed up with school and work, so i dont want to impose.

I think you could make your reds a bit deeper, add some depth to them. Either with darker colours or a wash, or both. Other than that splendid work!

For edge highlights, start with a small brush, thin a lighter version of the base color in water & then very carefully run the side of the brush along the edge of the model, trying to get a nice, even, thin line. It takes some practice and may take more than one pass... but the results can really be worth the effort

What color should I use, the base color for my night lords is a product of layering a bunch of colors, after I prime them models black, I paint a base of necron abyss, then a coat of regal blue, then I drybrush some enchanted blue to lighten the raised areas.

The trim is done with a base of tau sept ochre then a coat of dwarf bronze, a wash of badab black is then applied.

I am going to try and take some new pictures today and see if that helps the quality.

Looks decent so far, have you thought of adding some lightning to your troops army? It's pretty characteristic of the night lords. Here's a good guide if you need it:

Ok so here is the first update, thank you all so far for the painting advice, if anyone wants to help me write fluff that wouls be stellar as well.

I want to try and photograph some marines in front of a white background and see if that helps bring out the detail.

so i grabbed my camera today....and the battery was dead :(

but I was able to get a couple of pics of my shadowsword, I bought it last year for no reason, now it just sits in my room collecting dust because nobody wants to play Apocalypse. there is an apoc game happening in december at my flgs, but im playing guard... go figure

In regards to line highlighting i would use ultramarines blue, perhaps enchanted, but that might be too bright. Otherwise looking good
