Sounds to me then that this collection might well have text versions of many of the Xmas e-shorts they did last Xmas ?

Anyway regular readers may recall this being discovered a while back ...

For centuries, war has raged between the proud elves and unforgiving dwarfs. After many great battles and vicious sieges, many failed attempts at peace and bloody massacres, both the dwarf High King Gotrek Starbreaker and the elf Phoenix King Caledor II tire of war and seek to bring the conflict to an end - but neither will surrender. As the last battle of the war begins, the two kings meet in single combat to decide who will be the true master of the Old World. And only one of them will walk away. The concluding instalment of the War of Vengeance saga.

.. which is mixed news. I'm always happy to read more of Mr Werner's work especially that set in the Old World but I am disappointed that this series is now -- quietly, being turned into a trilogy. It was originally going to be 6 books -- 3 from Mr Kyme 3 from Mr Wraight -- this was then ( after the release of the first one) reduced to 2 books by the same pair of authors ... and now we're just getting one more book in total ?

Disappointing.

There's further bad news for Fantasy fans as it seems that there will also not be a third/final book in Mr Reynold's "Blood of Nagash" series , I loved both of the first 2 in this series and am extra disappointed that this saga won't get the end it deserves.

.. so not a lot on the fantasy front anytime soon it seems .

Possibly this is -- maybe -- something to do with a possible new edition of WFB ..? One cannot but help note the synergy now a'twixt the Design Studio and Black Library, which is sensible enough.

No idea if it's true or not as such but there was talk about redundancies from the BL wing of GW a week or two ago.. further details or indeed confirmation/clarification are still being sought.

If it was/is true then best of luck and thanks to all those involved

but on a brighter note .....

Master of the First / The Long Night (The Horus Heresy) Audio CD – Audiobook, April 7, 2015
by Gav Thorpe (Author), Aaron Dembski-Bowden (Author)

The Dark Angels and the Night Lords fought one another to a bloody stalemate during the Thramas Crusade and, though the Lion eventually claimed victory, it left both Legions scattered and under-strength. Back on Caliban, those Dark Angels loyal to Luther begin to grow impatient for a return to past glories, allowing the corruption at the world's heart to spread. Meanwhile Jago Sevatarion, First Captain of the Night Lords, languishes in a gaol cell in the heart of Ultramar. Far from a spent force, both Legions must consider where their own personal loyalties lie, and what path they will take in the days and months to come.

While the war rages on across the galaxy, for many on the Throneworld of Terra it exists only in rumour and hearsay. But in the course of her daily duties, humble adept Katanoh Tallery discovers evidence of a conspiracy within the Administratum - surely, this can only be the precursor to a traitor attack on the Solar System itself! Fleeing into the shadows, she soon finds herself at the mercy of the mysterious Knight Errant Nathaniel Garro. Will this stalwart defender of mankind be her saviour, or her executioner?

Not Keeler there then .

It seems like BL had really scaled back on all of their non-Heresy releases in the last few years. I'm pretty sure they used to have at least one fantasy and one 40k novel per month. I can't recall nearly as many fantasy novels coming out lately.

I believe the e-book is the "enhanced" version .. ie it comes with a few pictures and/or a (short) writers commentary/afterword...?

Something like that anyway, does still seem a bit........ yeah

^^Same. I don't mind all of one being type being in a single format (like the Garro stuff). But the shotgun approach means I'm probably missing some good stories out there that I'll never really run down outside of them putting them into compelations.

Recent policy seems that limited edition HB then large paperback then small paperback. Recently they seem to have dropped the "standard" hardback, does that seem correct?

I'm expecting all of the short stories to be collated in batches into anthologies at some point in the distant future.

Problem with this is that it has to be impacting sales, not just in the long term with people deferring purchasing till the cheaper edition is available but long term as well with people either obtaining an illegal copy or forgetting all about it or just plain giving up.

Finished The Damnation of Pythos by David Annandale.

It's was rather enjoyable, I liked the interactions between the Shattered Legions, but it's mainly an Iron Hands novel. The contrast between Galba, an Iron Hands sergeant and his captain(Atticus) was cool, as it seemed like a back and forth battle on what the soul of the Iron Hands Legion will become.

The mounting horror of the buildup to the opening of the Damnation Cache was pretty well done. As was the naïveté of all characters involved on what the threat posed by the warp and it's denizens truly was. It's a stark contrast to how they would all react to the influence of the warp in 40k.

The Raven Guard and Salamander characters were minor players but their observations on how they saw the Iron Hands Legion changing was insightful. I'd have liked more from them, but they played enough of a part to get the sense on how their Legions reacted to the Isstvaan massacre and wether it changed them to the same degree as it did the Iron Hands.

My only complaint is that this novel had no major revelations or did it seem to advance the plot. It seemed like a step back from Vengeful Spirit, where Horus enters a new phase in his rebellion.
Spoiler:
Although this novel did end with the forces of Chaos Daemons entering the fray, independent of any traitor Legion summoning them/using them as fodder. So who knows what that will bring.

Still a great, fun read, but not as good as the last few Heresy books. This book does continue my personal theory that I think every Heresy novel that doesn't prominently include a Primarch of some stripe have been the weakest in the series.

Me too. I stopped picking them up because of it. I felt... burned.... on Promethean Son (haw haw haw) especially after they mentioned the Death Guard was going to be in it. By "in it" they mean a graining hologram ala Star Wars of Mortarion for something like all of two paragraphs. Woooo. Honestly, it did nothing to enhase the HH series, so I passed on all the little books after that.

What got me to stop even bothering reading them was the repetition. I'd see the same story across two or three books but wouldn't exactly realize that I'd read it already till part of the way through given that some short stories do have the same characters and follow a general plot. If I buy a book of short stories, I want them to be new... not the same ones that I've already bought and/or read twice.

Indeed :

http://www.blacklibrary.com/exclusive-products/death-and-defiance.html

Death and Defiance will be available for the first time at Warhammer Fest, months before it will be available in stores, at the Coventry Ricoh Arena on the 11th and 12th of October. Order your ticket for the event from the Games Workshop Website.

This anthology will also be available to order from blacklibrary.com the Monday after Warhammer Fest. Set your reminder today, and we'll drop you an email the day it goes on sale.

READ IT BECAUSE:
This anthology contains five exclusive stories from across the battlefields of the Horus Heresy. Each tale ties into one of the major arcs of the series so far: we follow a splinter of the scattered Night Lords Legion towards Ultramar, join a pack of Space Wolves despatched on a mission from the Wolf Lord, and gain a glimpse into the inner motivations of an assassin tasked with the elimination of one of the traitor Primarchs.

THE STORY:
Words alone can no longer convey the horrors of the war that now grips the Imperium. In what should have been an age of enlightenment and glorious triumph, instead warriors from both sides reel from the twin agonies of betrayal and bloodshed; those still fighting on the front lines, and those long forgotten by those they might once have called brother.

In the UK, physical books are not subject to VAT (sales tax), which is 20%. However ebooks are subject to VAT, so you often see ebooks being more expensive than their physical equivalent here.

As to why that is, go ask the government

Right, so if it's Word Bearers and Anthony Reynolds we can assume it's going to have some of the characters from the Word Bearers Trilogy that he wrote?

I just wish they'd stop jumping back and forward in the timeline. As I assume this story is set before the Isstvan events?

Perhaps that's Jarulek following the Warmonger. Not sure whether Marduk would be there or not.
