I've been attempting to add a little to my ripper swarms rather than putting them on a base so here is my first go at it.

Edit: Fixed up the image a teeny bit

If this turns out to be a success, I'll be doing a guardsman next

Also, if you are not fielding ripper swarms they would make awesome objective markers.

I guess they could, I never see rippers fielded anyways :(

I would say use them if you field rippers or Parasite. If you happen to not field them, use the one with members of opposing army as objectives. Would be nice to play against marines and be like "Oh I have an objective to use, my little buddies eating your friend."

That was one reason I chose Orks first, I have a roomate who plays Orks and it's fun to imagine what he thinks when I pull that out as the objective

Nice! I personally think that most models can benefit from coming off the base a little, making it look like they're stepping out into the world or that the base is too small to contain them.
Yours goes pretty far off the base with the weapon arms. The feet go the perfect distance off, but the arms... maybe bend them back? have a ripper standing on the stump puliing it back? this will give it height over distance off the base.

I did that with some lizardmen I chopped up. It's a very gross and generally gory result, perfect for rippers

Necrons work well too. I'm gonna have the skinny warrior legs on a BBQ grill for my comedy rippers' 'Ribs'.

I really do like the idea of having at least objective markers for the army you face. Maybe even trade for a model of theirs so that its extra personal.

I'm happy people like this, I will be adding gore and modifying the base a bit but it's 70% or so done at the moment

Also I really like your rippers, they are partially what made me want to do this

I use pokerchips for my best bases. My elites get special scenic dioramas that don't fit on a 25 or evn a 40.

What kind of things do you put on the bases?

I've made rippers eating a guardsman before, it looks good enough.

Flour? What, are you going to bread and fry it?

Mix some red wash/ink with pva glue and dump it on there! Easy, wet look blood!

Flour, A few drops of Blood Red, 1 Rice Crispie and some purple wash makes good gore.

Edit: And really, fried Ork doesn't sound half bad.

Or a bit sporey for my taste. Its a texture thing, like tomatoes.

Flour though? Try the white glue. Its not food, won't attract bugs. unless you want it to.
I might just splatter my nids with chunky spaghetti sauce and place them outside for a week before my next game. Those are real maggots, folks!
