This is my fluff for my heresy-era raven guard, using the BA codex. Enjoy!
Back then, the raven guard legion was split differently, into larger groups.
My heresy-era RG are the "Raven's talons" battlegroup, the leading warriors, consisting of 1,000 astartes (was 25,000, but few survived the dropsite massacre). This battlegroup is in turn split into smaller detachments, the "muninn" company (still a lot larger than 41st millenium-era companies)
The reasoning behind "Muninn" is a quote from shrike "We strike, fast and lethal, and by the time our enemy reacts-darkness there, and nothing more." which I feel is strongly related to Edgar Allan Poe's "the raven" in which are the sentences "darkness there, and nothing more" and the raven repeatedly says "nevermore"-the last word of Corax. Corax is translated from greek into "raven", and the raven from "the raven", Poe's famous story, is thought to be inspired by Norse mythology, in which Odin had two raven called Huginn and Muninn, translating into thought and memory. My company is named that in honour of all those lost in the dropsite massacre (my company served in the brief year in which Corax was still in this universe and the dropsire massacre had just happened).
feedback?

JB: I like the concept of a free Shrike roaming through the treetops of the jungle. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a real Shrike sitting on my couch eating my Skittles.
corpsesarefun: Thank god I missed be nice to shrike day.
greenskin lynn: because of all the skittles and soda, you basically live off sugar water, like some sort of freakish human-hummingbird hybrid. |

So this is a post-istvaan, heresy era battlegroup consisting of 3k marines? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the entire legion reduce to about 3k guys after Istvaan?

whoops, my mistake. I meant 3,000 survived, 1,000 of which were the talons.
527 marines make up "Munnin", the remaining 473 make up "Huginn".
The "Munnin" excel at hunting traitor astartes and generally the forces of chaos in memory of thier lost brothers. (since I am going to be doing the new GK, it fits nicely)

Nice fluff
completely plausable, you could easily advance the story line and have the Huginn and Muninn force found a new chapter later.

nice idea! That shall come...in time...maybe the raptors? I like the colour scheme...
or a made-up one, which flew into the eye of terror trying to rescue corax, never to be seen again?
(becaus I've always wanted an orange colour scheme)

anyone? The leaders of the Muninn battle company is commander Lenore (len-or) and epistolary Audax (ow-dax).
Lenore is armed with a plasma pistol and power fist, and Audax has a combi-melta and a jump pack.
Audax has served just 64 years and has risen through the ranks. Lenore, by comparison, is a veteran, having served over 2 centuries. His trademark is his left side, famously blown off by his trusty plasma pistol in his first battle as a sergeant. His commander, Learchus, was torn limb from limb by a daemon prince. His boltgun spent, Lenore dived under the daemon's swipe and whipped up the still-burning plasma pistol. Though it's cells had not had time to cool, he had no choice. He fired, and the shot sent the howling daemon back to the warp. The sargeant's entire left side was left a smouldering wreck, but luckily apothecary Dacus was nearby. following immediate thunderhawk extraction, the unconscious marine saved the planet of Garntis. For his actions, Lenore was promoted to be the new commander of Muninn. The plasma pistol was crafted in the days before the heresy, and is made of sterner stuff than it's more modern counterparts- it survived the overheating and Lenore still uses it.
BTW should I make an article for this lot?

I like that...
Once you have written it down and changed any need to be changed bits then make it into an article.
