Working on building a Baron Sathonyx from the new Dark Eldar Codex for a friend. Think I've got the build and pose how I want it, just need to let the glue get good and set, make sure I'm happy with it, and then do all the green stuff work that'll be required for his coat and hair and gap filling.

Minor update. Changed the angle of the waist. Put on a rough coat to use as a basing to sculpt the actual coat onto. Got a good shape, I think it's too flimsy so I'm probably going to take it back off and redo it with brown stuff, which sets up much more rigid.

The metal board is the old Helion skyboard, because it's larger, while the rider is just a plastic Helion bent up (you can see all the white spots on the plastic where it's getting quite stressed).

Oh yeah, hair's on the To Do List. None of the DE or Daemonette figs have hair like what's in the picture, so I'll be taking a shot at sculpting that on too. Anyways, here's his redone coat base. Did it better this time, and with the brown stuff it's a little more sturdy, but not as much as I would have hoped. May have to add another layer onto it.

Since they're for the same person, here's my first production prototype of an individual "Razor" out of a Razorwing Flock. Dremeled off the entire back and face of a plastic Ripper, to remove all it's semblance of being a `Nid, and then gave it a pair of Gargoyle wings, cut off at the elbow to make them more appropriately sized. I think it comes out looking like a good generic winged worm thing with sharp teeth and not at all like something you'd immediately think of as being a Tyranid. The plan is to have three of these per 40mm base.

Very nice conversions. Not a fan of the old Skyboards, but I'm very interested in seeing the finished product ( I use Sathonyx as my HQ, so lets just say I have a personal interest in seeing how you make him) Can't wait to see the finished product!

Been doing some minor bits of work on this guy for a bit now. Finally got enough done to make a worthwhile update. At this point I think the coat is finished. The board just needs some gap filling. Then it's onto the oh so fun task of sculpting that flowing mane onto him.

HAIR!

Stuck a small brass rod into the back of his head to give me support to sculpt the hair onto. I think it came out pretty good, the but extreme zoomed and blown up pictures you get here make it look horrible. I swear it looks better in person!

Got a couple more of the small details done so sure, full model shots. About all that's left is to go thru the various plastic DE sprues, see if there's some good little stings I have have streaming from his sleeve and hair like what's in his artwork. The gap in the raised arm could use a little more work as well.

How'd you manage to *not* break the wrist, ankles and other joints?

Lots of little bends or ... well? Does the whiteness of the stress give a gradual gauge?

Pretty much just bent them as much as I could before I thought they were about to break. The white is also a good indicator of how much stress you've got on it. His right ankle did break, and that reminds me that I need to touch that up when I do the one arm.

You know... I think you might be better off mounting it from a piece of piano wire from the base going up into the wing. I've mounted a "flying" figure with one of those flying base pedestals and it gives me nothing but grief (even though it looks fine it's SO fragile that it just breaks at the drop of a hot). Small diameter piano wire can carry a lot of weight, and you could disguise the connection between the base and the wing with a little bit of shrubbery.

Just a thought...

Got the last little details done. I decided not to put the little hooked streamers in his hair like what's in the picture because I did not like the way they looked. I don't have anything tiny and fine enough to look good. I did to the pair of them for the one sleeve. Got him hooked to his board and made a new little belt buckle thing for the chain attachment. I do believe he's done, sans painting of course. I'll try to make the guy give it back to me after he's painted it so I can get some pictures of that up.
