Subject: 1750 Tournament Winning Eldar List!?

Hey friends! This is my updated list from my last tourney (was 1250pts, 3 days, 12 battles!) and i came 4th/40 on battle points. Let's not talk about painting score. Dirty space wolf players took top 3 spots lol.
Eldrad was a beast and worth the comp score hit. So he's back again to make some more enemies. Filled the 500 pts with a wraithlord and banshees (1250 list had zero combat oriented squads.. lol) and a squad of pathfinders (have never tried them before, but all the tourneys seem to be playing only troops can contest objectives, so infiltrate and 2+ cover save will hopefully frustrate my opponents and score some valuable objectives).
Had originally planned to play a farseer on jetbike and one on foot, but eldrad is way better value for money! Instead he is going to pimp round in a falcon with a few fire dragons (drop them off to slag a tank, maybe pick up a remnant squad of guardians to contest something. Before anyone gets too worried the consensus on the forums and tourneys is that all powers can be used from inside a tank except for mind war and eldrich storm (which require line of sight). Add holo-fields, spirit stones and fortuned cover saves (when necessary) and this pimp wagon should be a real chariot.
I've also become really clever at using bikes to grant cover saves to my skimmers (and vice versa). Fortune the bikes, 3+ re-rollable cover save and you're laughing. Also have a trick where i pivot the skimmer sideways (12 all round of course), line up a war walker behind (with his guns still peaking over but 50% obscured). Best part is, rank up the other 2 walkers directly behind, with squadron rule, they all shoot! It's cheap and dirty but it has to be done.
Anywho, here is the list. Would love some feedback!
Eldar 1750
HQ
210: Eldrad
Troops
120: Pathfinders [5]
100: Guardians [10], EML
116: Eldar Jetbikes [4], Warlock, Embolden, Spiritseer
76: Eldar Jetbikes [3], Shuriken Cannon
76: Eldar Jetbikes [3], Shuriken Cannon
488: Subtotal
Elites
112: Fire Dragons [7]
(Transport: 110: Wave Serpent, Twin-Linked Shuriken cannon, Shuriken Cannon, Spirit Stones)
80: Fire Dragons [5]
139: Howling Banshees [7], exarch, acrobatic, mirror swords
(Transport: 110: Wave Serpent, Twin-Linked Shuriken cannon, Shuriken Cannon, Spirit Stones)
331: Subtotal
Heavy Support
100: Wraithlord, Wraithsword, Flamers
175: Falcon, Scatter Laser, Spirit Stones, Holo-Fields
220: War Walker Squadron [3], 2x2 Starcannons, 1x2 Scatterlasers
495: Subtotal
Total: 1750
As you can see its very angry on av3+. But everyone is playing some sort of marine and so deserves fusion gun up the bum. With a bit of guide/doom action shuriken cannons/catapults/walkers will have a reasonable time against horde. Last tourney walkers outflank multi-assaulted 3 squads of guardsman, killing 5, impenetrable in return. Each squad duely failed their 3+ leadership test and with I4 vs I3 all were stomped down. One of their finest moments.
Thinking of leaving wraithy off the board to start, as he only has the wraithsword (promoted to 'wraithy' after murdering a number of mephiston type ICs). Assault in from reserve, where possible. Otherwise just an assault deterrent/tank spanker (if any close in- 3x re-rolled s10, 2d6 armour pen hits- lol landraider). Dies dismally to krak missiles and too hard to hide in cover. So trump card i think would be the way to play him?
Banshees only work with Doom, but that can be arranged. I10 is nice with banshee masks.
Pretty small on head-count, but hey, it's eldar. 2x fortune a turn tho makes stuff survivable and frustrating for their lascannons when your playing to solid covers saves or 3+ armour on the bikes (vs boltguns). Laughably runes of warding has won me a few battles at the latter end, or just scared them for psyking all together.
Hopefully this looks like a decent beatdown list! Hard hitting and fast. Otherwise, sneaky eldar tactics, sneaky sneaky sneaky.

Well, the troop section looks a bit weird.
I'd take 2x 6 GJBs with 2 shuricannons each.
Each unit could be accompanied by a Warlock with embolden and spear.
A fast enemy will move towards your ground forces (Guardians/Pathfinders)
and they you need some units for counter-strike.
Banshees can serve this purpose (if the enemy is doomed) and also the WL comes in here.
I'd focus the army a bit, either Saim Hann style or more footsloggers incl. an Avatar and Harlies for counter-strike.

Who will Eldrad join? Is your wraithlord going to babysit the unit that Eldrad does join? I'm not sure about the wraithlord keeping up with the jetbike unit. It would reduce their mobility. Wraithsword? I think its a pretty good choice if you plan on assaulting, having one myself, but I also think you need a second weapon, even if it is only a Shuriken cannon. That way, you'll be able to do something with the wraithlord straight from the first turn.

Hey guys thanks for the responses.
re: troops- the tournament im playing (and others previous) require that only troops choices can contest, so having numerous troops is integral.
GJB in addition are important to me with their assault move, valuable assault or cover screen. last game trapped a trigon, stopped him assaulting valuable units (they even scored a wound!)
True! Guardians and pathfinders will attract assaulting enemies, but, they're actually the bait. Gets them in range of war walkers and importantly, fire dragons who rush 12" jump 2" shoot 12", usually guided. Very messy.
Play style is undoubtedly counterattack.
Wraithlord seriously can't afford another weapon, but he's not using it when in combat, where he should be.
Re: above he prob won't be on turn 1, wait in reserve to counterassault. A rude shock most of the time.
Banshees yeh, doom counterattack role. Fast transports with with spirit stones means everything is highly responsive. Solid vanguard when powered forward with dragons and eEdrad.
As above, Eldrad will be riding with 5 fire-dragons to start with. He's in the falcon rather than a wave serpent- he'll be drawing more fire so holo-fields become important.
To keep him alive and nasty he'll prob end up just casting all his powers then boosting for the cover save (fortuned) a lot of the time. Every turn if need be. Can ride alone

Interesting list. Good tactics and thoughts too.
But......Aren't you in a world of pain when mech armies down your two dragon serpents early on? I mean their ENTIRE long ranged AT (or alpha strike meltas) should target your dragons IMO... Nothing else in your army would be a serious threat to a mech opponent IMO. I mean the wraithlord can be dealt with easily enough afterwards, or moved away from etc...
i WOULD probably add an EML to the falcon, plus a BL or EML (or both) to the wraithlord to help in this regard, at least a bit.
Personally i also find your troop choices very squishy, not a serious one that could stand attention....
Do you maybe face a lot of infantry-based marine-type armies? cause against these type armies this list should be good, i think.

Cheers mate
Yeh I do play a lot of marines, foot and mech.
The reason I didn't upgrade the Falcon's second weapon is because he will normally be moving too fast to use it.
If marines are semi-mech they're in rhinos which are ripped apart by guided war walkers. If possible, pop it with the falcon or Guardian's EML then walkers flatten them without cover
(LRs easily slagged by dragons, passengers destroyed by walkers).
But yeh, the Wraithlord model I have at the moment has an EML on it, can you see anywhere in the list I could drop 25 pts to make up for it? Didn't want to have him on the board straight away though cause he's just a shot magnet (which is sometimes a good thing I guess). Need him alive to beat down enemy assaults and IC's.
Eldar troops generally are squishy, but fortuned bikes really aren't that bad. Re-rollable 3+/3++ if turbo boosting.
As above, gotta have lots of separate troops to give me a go on multiple objectives. Can afford to sacrifice 1 or 2 if necessarily necessary. Automatically Appended Next Post: And sorry yeh dragons usually wait out of line of sight behind some major cover. Great thing about skimmers they just leap over the top of it when the time comes.
If they need to play offensive rather than counterattack (say against guard) bikes turbo boost in-front of the skimmers forming a screen/cover save. Fortune both. They usually fall for the bikes, but 3++(re-rolled) works out as a 9/10 save. Great way to waste their ordnance.
As for anti-tank I do find that forum axiom pretty accurate- waste tanks with infantry, waste infantry with tank (walkers). Dragons are the most reliable. Warlock and Eldrad witchblades s9 are there too for AT.

In terms of killing two birds with one stone (strengthening your troop's durability and increasing anti tank) your list would greatly benefit from Warlocks with all of your jetbike squads- embolden keeps your squads on the table after taking fire, and singing spears are maneuverable las cannons for taking down whatever the dragons don't get.

I would love a warlock for each bike squad, but not really anywhere i can shave all the points. Any suggestions? Had been leaving them off the board for a couple of turns and then bringing them through to turbo objectives. Keeps them alive for one. Might just be the tournaments i'm playing but they all require that only troop choices can contest-
Also: If you have 2 choices on objective vs opponents 1 you score. Turbo boosting 2 squads onto objectives has been game winning.
Thus breaking them up is integral. Could play they warlocks for the anti-tank but that would put them in a very precarious position/role on the board. However it is definitely a thought to consider.
Smitty0305 wrote:Bad list. No idea how you do well in tournaments.
I think this list does well mostly cause it suits my play style (counterattack)
In addition
-Eldrad is the ultimate anchor
-Guided/fortuned War Walkers are ruthless
-Fire Dragons are a rude shock to MEQ infantry, and waste zero time with tanks
-This list is extremely maneuverable (all bar guardian home base squad)
ie. Fast skimmers, fast bikes, outflanking walkers (if necessary) infiltrating/outflanking pathfinders (if necessary)
-Huge firepower, deals easily with deep strikers
A mate gave me some trouble with vanguard vets taking down my walkers. Easy fix though, screen them with guardians. Annihilate following turn.
