I got the battlesuit as a Christmas present, but I don't like the regular tau colors. One of my favorite movies is District 9 and the guns and robot have a similar style to Tau weaponry.

Here's y reference photo: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1p20WdeXKKs/TFOgk52ZQ4I/AAAAAAAAJhw/QwH4X6PEqPs/s1600/District9Robot.jpg

And here's the suit:

Ooooooo looks cool! They have quite similar body characteristics so I think you can pull it off.

The battlesuit does look very similar, GW should sue that movie!!! (ducks)

Seriously though that's going to look great painted up. Are you going to do any conversion work to make it look even closer to movie?

I don't think I'll do any conversion work, I'm still pretty new to converting and it's a nice model as it is.

Here's my progress so far. I have a problem though, I have no idea what color I should paint the tau symbols that would keep with the D9 color scheme, any ideas.

Also do you think the grey is dark enough, or should I make it darker?

White symbols, just like the picture. I think the grey could do with a highlight as well. Cool detail in the D9 picture, it shows that the weaponry is just the handheld stuff magnetized onto the arms.

Maybe a darkened turquoise? I'm not a genius on color schemes but maybe?

I was planning on darkening it by adding a layer of black ink.

Looking good, but if you want to darken the color try using Charadon granite, but otherwise awsome start and hope to see it finished.

The grey looks fine to me, especially if you're going to put weathering on like the reference photo.

Time for next update. I have now finished the shield, gun and upper part of the legs. I haven't added glyphs yet and I'll do that last, also contemplating whether to add an orange line to the gun as well. Here are the pictures.

Here is my next update for all two people who have seen this.

Some of the glyphs I've painted myself and some are decals. I am completely finished the body, but am contemplating adding damage; could someone please give me a link to how to paint 2-D damage techniques?

Also, because the base is so large, I've decided to add a Tau soldier to the base to make it look like the commander is jumping in to save him. I painted the soldiers gun to look like this: http://www.j6x2.com/2009/09/district-9-gun-3/

Excellent work there. District 9 is an awesome film and its great to see it being used as inspiration

Excellent paintwork! Nice crisp colours and an effective colour scheme. However, I can't help feeling that the main body could use a 'lift'. Perhaos some white decals?

For 2D damage the simplest technige is to make an irregulr black teardrop shape, with a small patch of silver in the widest section.
If you want a more peeling paint look, then paint tin bitz on the edges of your plates, followed by a layer of boltgun metal, and a spot of chainmail to highlight. Use black/brown ink to darken slightly. Check out my Landing pad in the gallery for photos of this technique.

I actually do have white decals on the body, but the photo can't see them on the sides, maybe I should add one to the front.

Are tau suits metal? I thought they are some form ceramic... Nevermind. Is the resin always that grainy from forgeworld? The fire warrior looks nice with the white.

The grainy look is my camera, still getting the hang of it.

I have finally built the damn model! One of the ankles broke and the head fell off the table and the antenna broke off, so lots of regluing. I meant to have him look like he was landing from a forward jump, but I got the leg positions mixed up, so he's jumping backwards now.

I'm planing putting extra battlesuit pieces on the base for wreckage and I'm going to do a desert base next.
