The Song of Death
Despair all ye nations, deny not that we're sick,
for our blood is like water where once it was thick.
And our minds have grown leaden, our bodies gone weak,
And venom pours from our lips whenever we speak.
Despair all ye nations, for the time draws apace,
When the rot of the cynic shall steal our good grace.
And our sweetest of dreams shall fade to lost hope,
Our pride and our arrogance; our noose and our rope.
Despair all ye nations, see the years drawing on,
Our great cultures are fading and soon they'll be gone.
So conceited our scholars, they jeer through their teeth,
with their theories so shallow - quite soulless beneath.
Despair all ye nations, for the ending is near,
when the Lord of Lost Heart shall govern us with fear.
Our weakness unfetters as we face this unknown,
and our faith trails to nothing; we stand here alone.
Despair all ye nations, the Corrupter has come,
and the sad days of this world are nearing their sum.
For the shining ideals through endeavours we sought,
grow sour as he passes and are coming to nought.
Despair all ye nations, there's no hope for us now,
for we made this monster, placed a crown on his brow.
He fed on our apathy; our pain made him swell,
We gave him Dominion, he gives us his Hell.
I recently started building a Necromunda gang and was working on a campaign with a group of friends. While Necromunda is a great game unto itself, the creativity and near endless possibilities of =I=munda was a much more attractive alternative from both a gaming and hobby standpoint. My gaming buddies agreed, so our Necromunda campaign has evolved into =I=munda campaign of sorts. The roleplaying element will be minimal, but the use of alternate gang lists will be used to create fluffy factions and story driven games will be a focus for the group.
While my last Necromunda gang was a good exercise in modeling and conversion work after a long absence from the hobby, I felt somewhat limited with the standard Necromunda gangs. While I had initially planned a Chaos faction to play a role in the campaign, the more I planned it the more I decided that should be the focus for my modeling efforts. As I usually do I searched around online for ideas and came across a model that hit home for the exact look and feel I wanted to convey for a Nurgle Cult.
This is that model: http://www.coolminiornot.com/263868
This model is an inspiration in what I would like to achieve with miniature painting. For me this model evokes a reaction that is beyond just a very nicely painted miniature. It is fascinating in the way a John Blanche piece inspires the imagination with a unique, macabre feel. It showcases the gothic imagery that is 40k and what is exciting about the 40k universe to me. This is what I hope to achieve with my Nurgle cult.
While I wait for a bits order I placed to arrive to get things started proper, I have a very early WIP picture of a mutant for the cult that I began work on today. I should stress this is very early work and I am currently at the mercy of the postal service to deliver my order to really get things going.
More to come soon!

OK, well now that I have one of my two bitz orders I've been waiting on I have been able to start some real progress. The first mutant wasn't quite as hulking menace wielding a chainaxe I wanted so I made a new one with some of the new bits I got. He's still WIP, but a much better attempt in my opinion.
I'll be using Ancientsociety's Inquisimunda Chas Coven list and this guy will be an Acolyte mutant, essentially a heavy in Necromunda rules.

Well I still haven't received my other bits order and I'm beginning to get concerned it may have been lost in transit across the pond. It's fast approaching our first game this coming Saturday without key pieces I need for the cultists and Magos, as well as some bits I had planned to use for the Acolyte mutants. At this point I've just got to work with what I have and get some models assembled for the game.
One of the compromises I've had to make is the head for this Acolyte mutant. As most of the cultists will use FW renegade militia torsos, I had ordered some FW Ork kommando heads as well as they look a good bit more Chaos than Orky and fit well with the renegade militia in my opinion. For now he'll have to do with a zombie head, but I can always change it later if necessary.
Still a bit WIP. The backpack is held on with sticky-tack currently but when finished the gaps will be filled with GS.
Additionally, bases for all the models will be done later once I begin painting.
Comments and criticism welcome as always.

Nice mutant again!!! The head is nice as is, don't change it!
Which kit does the Ork body come from? The ones with jump-packs? (can't remember their names... Stormboyz?)

Thanks! We'll see about the head. I might use the kommando head on another mutant. I thought the gasmask head would look cool on a flamer model, though.
The body is indeed a stormboy. I shaved off all the orky spikes on the boots and shaved the ork skull icon off the torso. The arms are from a burnaboy with the burna kitbashed with a catachan heavy flamer.

May I add that the idea of a bulky Ork body to convey the mutation is just excellent! They give off a vibe, mutation and desecration and all very Nurgly in their looks, that I can't wait to see how they're going to look when completed. In this, the 1st stage, they definitely capture the feeling of sickness and wrongness that the inspiring picture gives one.

Big update time! I got my second bits order in finally and I've been working steadily all week to get the gang redy for the first game tomorrow. there's still plenty to do, but I at least have the starting gang members assembled. I had a good bit of trouble with the grave guard legs I ordered meshing well with the FW militia torsos, so I had to pull a last minute change of plans and grab a storm vermin box today that I was lucky enough to get NIB from a local gamer for a reasonable price! I should note the bases are just to get by for now. I really want to do some custom bases but I just needed to work with what I had to get the minis ready for gaming. Anyway, I just snapped some quick pics, so they're not the best, but here's what I have so far:
Replaced the zombie head for the FW Kommando head for this mutant:
Chaos Magus - still a good bit I want to do on this model, but he's playable for now:
Cultists:
Mutants:
Sorry for the crap pics. Hopefully I'll get some better ones up soon. I'll also try and get some pics of our groups first game tomorrow!

Very nice, very very nice.
One gripe I have is about your flamer mutant. I preferred the zombie head as it made him look like a mutant. In his currant form, all I see is an ork burna boy. Sorry
The cultists, with the use of stormvermin legs is genius! I don't think I've ever seen someone do that before. Very original, and pretty damn cool. Mutants look grand, nice use of bits.

Thanks for the feedback!
I see what you're saying about the mutant and it was certainly a concern he would look too orky, even with all the obvious ork stuff shaved off. The Kommando heads always looked like they fit the look of chaos renegades better than Orks. However, I do feel overall the model still has too strong Orky feel, so I think I'll go back to the zombie head, although I think I want to add a gasmask to the zombie head.
I can't take credit for the idea with the storm vermin legs, I got the idea from post on the Spikey Bits blog showcasing some traitor guard conversions, but I do think they fit the bill quite well! I may greenstuff boots over the rat feet later, but they look pretty creepy as is.

I certainly plan to get started painting very soon! It's been raining all week which has prevented getting any priming done. Hopefully it will clear up soon,
In other news, my gaming group had our first game tonight, and unfortunately, I forgot to bring my camera along, but it was a blast! We had a pretty large game with 6 players on a rather small board, so the fighting was immediate and intense. Afterward everyone was very excited about getting the gaming going often and getting things painted, so the bug has sunk it's teeth in and I need to do some final touch ups for the models and slap some paint on them.
I had intended to run the gang as my Nurgle cult, but forgot some of my =I=munda weapons lists I decided last minute to switch the list to Redemptionist for simplicity's sake. We had a few new players, including our friend's 10 year old son, so I decided =I=munda rules without some of the rules on hand might be a bit too much to throw at new players just getting a grasp of the game. Turns out I should have been worried about my own knowledge of Redemptionists because I forgot to apply their special rules on several occasions and it cost me dearly! In total, 4 dead or captured models lost. Including my leader and deacon! Not the best start, especially after my leader racked up an impressive 10 wounds before having his face removed by a point blank lasgun shot!
Anyway, a gaming tale with no pics is not so interesting for most, I'm sure, but my interest in more renewed than ever, as is that of our group so I see big things coming ahead. First among them is a full modular plastic terrain table after my cult is painted. I'm thinking AdMech Explorator group after that.

Great start!
My advice would be to get painting soon before building too many to create a stress for paintwork. Often finishing and getting the mood right with aint will greatly inspire and influence future conversion work too.
I like the work so far. I wouldn't have changed the heavy flamer guy's head! The new one is just too orky! and reads "ork" which is the wrong typology and will weaken the whole squad aesthetic. If the first one wasn't right, it'd still find an alternative, human twist head.

Hey Migs! I'm definitely ready to get started painting. I have no doubt it will help flesh out the feel of the gang and hopefully I'll get some ideas for some really nasty looking characters to add.
I did change the head back to the zombie head before the game. I agree with everyone that it was too Orky. Although my poor mutant got literally cut to pieces by a Goliath gang leader's chainsword and died. So I have some time to re-work the model and I think while I'll keep the zombie head I want to add a gasmask to him.
I had such a time crunch to get the models together for the game, now I'm alot more free to take my time tweaking conversions and getting things painted and plot my revenge!
I have a "true scale" plague marine coming that's more than a little inspired by your Alpharius models.
