February 2010

I'll be catching this blog up to my current progress, using this as a personal log of my progress.

Got the last of my ebay wins in. I've been buying lots of used ork armies from people getting out of the hobby or changing armies or whatever. Buying used lots is the only way to go, because if you have the time to build and paint an army you have time to fix someone else's first

Here's what I got in each lot, as well as what I paid / what MSRP would be.

- A warboss on a bike, 6 Deffkoptas, Converted Ghazkull, 19 Nobs, 1 Painboy, a unit of 10 Hard Boyz with Nob, 22 Shoota boyz with Nob, 30 Slugga boyz with Nob, 5 Lootas with Mek, 5 Tankbustas with Nob and bomb squigs, 10 grots with Grot herder, 5 Stormboyz with Nob, and a heavily converted Battle Wagon - 169/385
- 4 Burna boyz, ZanZag, 15 boyz, Painboy, 7 Lootas, 7 nobz, 3 deffkoptas (missing propellers), zapgun w/16 gretchins, Runtherd - 40/152
- Old metal dreadnought, kan, 5 old bikes, broken trukk, basilisk (!) - 53/200
- AoBR ork stuff, burna/loota box, trukk, bigmek, lots of bits - 71/102
- Some more boys, lootas - 15/40, 20/30, 31/42

Total money paid: $389
Total MSRP: $751
That's a savings of 48%!

So this is what I have to work with, plus 2 new battlewagons and a box of burnas bought at my FLGS, plus some paint

Stripping paint and assembling battlewagons

Here's a 4 minute video I made of stripping the awful paintjob of many of the ebay orks, as well as a brief tour of the waagh to be.

Superclean is the best!

I bought two brand new battlewagon boxes and set to assembling them. I put together one using entirely white glue in the hopes of just popping it apart to work on it later, but it actually held enough that I'd bend or break something pulling it apart, so I just glued over it
I wanted to make the wagons stand apart on the battlefield, which is hard because the kit is wonderfully detailed and unique but looks very odd seeing two side by side with the exact same design. I consolidated all the wheels onto one and all the tracks onto the other, and glued the 'ard case onto one but won't be counting it as one in the game. Whats the use of a battlewagon if you can't fill it with burnas and put the template on the very corner of your deffrolla?

One eight wheeled and one 4 tracked. The front tracks are shortened by one wheel hub and the track bent and reglued to match.

Every accessory is magnetic, letting me mix and match battle configurations and fit them into boxes much easier!

Cleaning, converting, assembling boys and nobs

After sorting through the newly unpainted orks, I decided I prefer shoota boys to slugga boys, so ordered some shoota arms from ebay. I took a lot of the boys apart so i could pose them differently, and armed with my collection of bits and unassembled boys set to trying to make every single boy unique in some way.

My ork boy/nob tacklebox! This is AFTER making my whole army, it was full to bursting before!

[Thumb - P1250077.JPG]
My main boy squads: 52 (2*26 squads) shoota boys, 2 PK BP nobs, 2 rokkits, 6 big shootas. Some shootas are really dual wielding pistols, counts-as shootas.

Some of the more customized boys and the squad leader nobs, see far left and upper middle left.
