after playing my 42. Cadia IG for the last few months I finally got back to the Nids. I played them a lot with the 3rd Edition Codex a a very few times with the 4th one.

Now, with the new Codex out (yeah ok,it's been a while now ) I'm starting again and want to add a few more Units and MCs over the upcoming year and share them here.

Just to give you an allaround feeling for the army, this is what I've got at the moment

Holy crap I just adore your color scheme! In the third pic, is that an old Tyrant? Looks sweet! Love to see what you add.

I know I'm a noob and all but I'm preety sure I can say these nids rule. Nice touch with the splattered Jungle Fighter on the nids base

yeah, thats a 3rd edition tyrant. I don't like the new model that much but with the new codex beining one for MCs, as everyone says, I'll ad another one eventually.

next up will be my recently assembled Trygon, give me a week or two for the paintjob

I think the bases would look better if you'd paint the trim. A dark brown perhaps.

And it's a modeling blog. There's really no reason not to post unpainted minis.

What does the big one one your last pic count as?

Do you think adding some dead grass to (sparingly only a wee bit here and there) could make the bases less well flat?

Another way could be to build up some mini dunes etc

@ Blambi: The big guy to the left is my Tervigon, I have a Tyrannofex in an similar scheme in planning. I wouldn't put gras on a Desert themed base, but I'll think about the dunes


@ Anung: I paint the rim of all my bases black, but maybe there are a few not so well done in the older pictures.

@ Bunnygurl: Thanks, I want to do a modell on a seperated base at which the Trygon is looking. Maybe an scared IG soldier or something but I'm not sure yet

Ok, I've got a bunch of new pics for you, although I'm not finished yet.

As you can see in the other pictures of my army, I normally add brown/orange markings on the armored parts of my creatures. But here I'm not sure how much to add. Bit afraid it will get too colorfull in the end.
Any suggestions ?

Great colors! Very bug-like, indeed! Especially the Carapace highlights caught my attention... They really go nicely together!

hm, ok so I will do at least the main carapace with highlight, still not sure if I should paint it on all of the tail...

Ok, i painted the first few scales with my orange highlight, looks good so far. But I think I have to paint all of the tail scales too, everything else would just look lazy.

Hey Guys.

After finishing my Trygon, I decided to do my landing spores next. A few weeks ago I purchased some toys called "dragon eggs" or something alike. They just looked right to make some tyranid spores or terrain out of them.
And, as you may recall, they had some nicely shaped dragons in them from which one was the base for my tervigon.

Ok, back to the spores. The Eggs look like this in their innitial state





My Brother suggested to place them topless on the taple and put some organic looking stuff inside and some opened lids around the edges to make it look like an open egg. I thought about that but in the end it would have needed an insane amount of plastic putty to accomplish this. Then I decided to put et least one egg open upon the table (not sure yet what to do with the rest of them)

I removed a part from the scaly bottom part and devided it into single scales which a posed around the hole. I wanted them to look as if the slided open.
The upper part got some putty to show the softer tissue rolling away when the spore opens.

Ah, now this looks promising. Are going to put them on bases? Because then you could scatter the remaining scales in front of it.

The remaining scales are already glued around the hole. Like they slid open

Oh yes, I see it now. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me though. Wouldn't it be better if the spore landed and the scales get blasted out and scattered all over the place. It's not like the landing spores are flying up again and those moving tiles just seem, from a Hivemind POV, like a waste of muscles.

edit: altough, the more I think about it, the more I like it.

I tried some color shemes on the spores scales amd finally came up with this one

Not bad. Not bad at all.

I just noticed that I accidently used a darker brown for the inne ring but I think I'll stick with that. Creatures should be more intimidating than spores after all
