Under the leadership of Warboss Big-Green, a massive warband of Orks launch an invasion on Avignor, a Cardinal world located in the Segmentum Pacificus. Fortunately, the Planetary Defense Force armada intercepted most of the Ork Roks. However, a couple of them breech the Imperial Navy defenses and made planet fall.

At the time, the Order of Faith had just returned from their recent mission on Doran. Many Sisters had fallen in battle since the last time the Order of Faith had visited Avignor. Now Canoness Dianus was back, like before, recruiting new Battle Sisters to fill in her empty ranks.

.....

Canoness Dianus sat in her command Immolator watching a training exercise unfold. Before her laid a vast desert with three squads of Gun Servitors and two Servitor-operated Razorbacks.

“Veteran Sister Superior Caelyn, proceed with the mission,” Dianus calmly orders.

Twenty seconds pass before an audible engine roar fills the air. Three Seraphims wearing jet packs emerge behind a sand dune. They fly over the Servitors and drop frags grenades. A series explosion ripples in the Servitor’s ranks. Deadly metal shrapnel flies everywhere and rips many Gun Servitors to shreds. Surviving Gun Servitors and Razorback all train their Heavy Bolters on the Seraphims and opens fire. Nimble and quick, the Seraphims dodges and weaves in the air, avoiding enemy fire.

Five more Seraphims appears behind the Gun Servitors and catches them off guard. Wielding duel pistols, they fire in rapid successions, reducing what’s left of the Gun Servitors in a hail of bullets. Both Razorbacks switches targets to the more immediate threat. All five Seraphims rockets towards the Razorback, getting within the Heavy Bolter turret blindside. Veteran Sister Superior Caelyn saws off the Heavy Bolters from both Razorbacks with her Eviscerator while the rest of the Sisters plants Krak Grenades on the vehicle’s hull. With charges set, the Seraphims blasts off into the air before the Kraks detonates, leaving two burning metal hulks.

Dianus stops her stopwatch and lets out a low whistle. It took just three and a half minutes for the Seraphims to annihilate the Gun Servitors. “What are your thoughts?”
Dianus asks Veteran Sister Superior Cath, who is sitting right next to her.

“They’ve exceed all my expectations,” reply Cath, “They strike with precision and are highly mobile. I wish to see their performance in real combat rather than these practice targets.”

Just then Canoness Dianus receives a message from central command on her vox radio. Dianus chuckles and returns her attention back to Veteran Sister Cath.

“Your wish as been granted. I’ve just received word from command that two Ork Roks have breech the Navy’s defenses. One of the Roks have been vaporize the Planetary Defense Laser, but the other is landing close to where we are.”

“Like a gift from our holy father delivered to our front door steps,” amuse Cath.

Dianus bursts out laughing. “Ave Imperator,” she replies.

This is a 2000 points game between my Sisters of Battle versus Orks.

Army List:

My opponent brought a heavy footslogging Ork list with a whopping 149 models! Later, I recalculated his list and discovered it was actually 2488 points instead of the agreed 2000. Sneaky Xenos! The next day I asked him about it and he was deeply sorry.

Orks:

.....

A blood curdling “WAAAGGHHHH!” erupts from the Ork horde. A sea of green skins smashes against a wall of Sister vehicles. Behind, Battle Sisters and Seraphims levels their weapons. They bathe the xenos in a firestorm of burning Promethium and hail of Bolters. Many Orks perish, but the rest continues their relentless assault. Finally one Nobz pierces the side of a Rhino with his Power Klaw. Sparks ignites the fuel tank. The Rhino explodes, sending debris and fireballs everywhere. The Orks funnels through the gap in the Sister’s defenses. Metal and Armour clash as both forces fights furiously in close combat. With brute strength and crude weapons, the Orks easily overpowers the Sisters.

While the Orks are busy looting and butchering the Sister’s dead bodies, Canoness Dianus redirects the other vehicles to surround the Ork mob. A squad of Seraphims jumps behind the horde, cutting off the Ork’s retreat. With the Orks box in, everyone opens fire. Multiple heavy flamethrowers hits simultaneously, creating a huge bonfire. Seraphims releases gouts of liquid fire from their own small portable hand flamers, incinerating Orks from the rear. Many Orks tries to escape the raging inferno, but they are trap in all directions. Eventually the fire dies out, leaving nothing but the smoldering ashes.

You are thinking of Seize Ground mission. In Capture and Control mission, objective can be place anywhere in the the player's deployment zone as long as it isn't in impassible terrain or within 24" of the enemy's objective. Don't worry, a lot of people get those two mixed up.

488 points is a huge miscalculation. I think you won the moral victory.

Great battle report! Have you thought of using your Seraphim as improved Smoke Launchers?

They have a high profile and can provide cover to vehicles. With a 3++ from faith, they can increase your vehicle survivability from the front arc.

Just something I've been thinking of recently.

Also, were those just lootas on his home objective? Hard to tell from the last picture.

That's a really expensive smoke launcher!

They are still T3 and will die to normal armour saves. Just use the choo choo train tactic. Use one tank to screen other tanks, then move the rear tanks forward, pop smoke, and pop the previous front tank behind it. It's like leap frogging.

Seraphims are too valuable to screen vehicles.

A better screen would be a cheap inducted IG in Chimeras. Front AV12 provides good protection against missile spam.

They're not screening! They're leading from the front.

I agree the seraphim are meant to hid behind vehicles and then jump out and assault what is left after shooting is done to pin it down and for swarms hopefully create a giant combat road block.

500 points over is ridiculous, imo you won that game.

Good job getting the tie. You have to beware of playing against people at GW stores. A lot of times, they are somewhat new and not all that familiar even with their own codex. And sometimes, they don't know how to add...where by accident or intentional. It's actually happened to me quite often - my 1.5K Daemonhunters vs 2K Tau (actually, this has happened about twice, though 1 of the times was in a campaign with a handicap on me), 2.5K Daemonhunters vs 3K Daemons and 3K IG vs 4.5K Chaos (in Apoc). And these are only the ones I caught because I wrote battle reports on them!

On the bright side, it does make what should have been a walk-through a little more challenging.

Thanks for the feedback folks!

Yeah, 500 points over is steep, especially when the army is Horde.

If the Ork Player fielded one Nobz unit, I would have played more aggressive rather than bunker in a corner for a couple of turns.

The Ork player wasn't happy either. Spearhead Deployment almost guarantees the longest distance between opposing armies. Not a log of armies can handle Capture + Control combine with Spearhead. Throughout most of the game the Ork player had to painstakingly move and run most of his army across the table.
