Subject: New Spin on Obliterators

I decided to throw some obliterators into my Iron Warriors army. Having recently read some of the horus heresy books and seen the awesomness that constitutes the thousand sons models, I decided to have my own go at creating Thousand Sons themed Obliterators. It made great sense especially since obliterators can use any one shooting attack per turn from a list of weapons. Sorcerers seem to have the same options available to them as well. Hence, they are sorcerers! My green stuff skills is absolutely amazing considering I violate pulp and savage the stuff and absolutely cant tease the desired shape out of it at all. I'm okay with the result, though it's not what I was going for. I would have preferred lightning arcing between two open-palm hands or both hands wreathed in fire, etc. In the end I decided to convert thunder hammer arms into 'force rods' and storm shield arms into fireball wielding hands. The last fellow is markedly different for the fact that I may alternate him between olbiterator and chaos sorcerer at a whim.
Cheers, comments and crit welcome.

This is actually a great idea
Just worried about people saying they look to similiar to Termies still. Especially in trouble if you run a Sorcerer Lord in Terminator Armour.

Are they on the same base as oblits? Yes. Are they roughly the same height? Yes. Have you told your opponent they're oblits? I assume so.
I can see no real argument that can be made against using these guys as Oblits.
Looking like termies isn't a good enough counter-argument in my opinion, it's like me calling someone out on a dreadnought they painted a bit decedantly and saying it looks too much like it's venerable for it to be a regular dreadnought; the dreadnoughts will have the same loadout, be the same height and on the same size base, but aesthetically they don't look right, so i'm not going to let you use them.
If it's a tournament, check with the TO beforehand; if it's a friendly game, laugh and ask if anyone else wants a game.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

The difference between the straight-up sorcerer and would be the fact that he has a full-length staff and a combi-bolter. It avoids the confusion right there, but then I'll see if I cant prettify him even more by adding other bitsies.

I like the idea, and your GS work, but they do look a little too similar to termies. I'm fine with the theory that oblits are ex-termies who've mutated, seems logical to me, but they should ideally look a little different.
A head swap would be a good start. And you could change the standard termy proportions by e.g. bulking out the shoulder and waist joints with plasticard/GS?

I was thinking about doing a little more GS work, but im at a loss of what to do. The only thing I know needs work is filling the gap on the headdress, and maybe filling it in so theres a continuity with the hanging bits, but beyond that point I'm not sure what to do. Since they are also themed after the idea of sorcerers, the only other way I see differentiating them is painting them like Thousand Sons. That on itself will stand them apart because I run an iron warriors army. Hence the other reason for thread, what else to do? Im wondering if I should add more shroud or scrolls hanging off of the pauldrons? Im nervous about pulling the heads out because they wre put in with plastic glue, but it would certainly give me the option of sculpting psychic hoods... its an attractive idea anyway. I have more second hand terminators on the way, so when I get those I will see what needs doing; if those guys need new heads then it makes my decision easier.
in the interim, im open to suggestions. Automatically Appended Next Post: Addendum:
I'm concerned with the shroudy bits by ending up with something that looks too much like dark angels. :/

I like them! The one thing they could really use is the GS on the upper helmets to join the horns and keep the horizontal sections going, consistent with the lower portion.
Since they don't have the same weapons as terminators, they should be reasonably easy to distinguish. If you have actual terminators in the army, painting these guys as Thousand Sons should also be plenty of differentiation.

The other thing you can do to differentiate them as oblits is to go ahead and do a little extra bulk cloak of GS but underneath the cloak have it bristling with firearms, imagine billy Connelly's jacket from boondock saints but with what oblits carry, that would be frightening.
