Cozy cockpit of an Imperial Knight

I purchased a nice little 1:48 kit from Tamiya yesterday and damn it's a nice and easy to do kit, not to mention about the right size for 28mm current day scenarios! It even has real rubber tires and goes together like a dream, money well spent for once! Enough plugging Tamiya, on to the questions that arose in me as I built this beaut:

1. I can't help but notice that the Humvee is sized like a truck in comparison to its predecessor the Ford MUTT. The interior is also very spacious, you could easily squeeze another two seats in between those present! What's the reasoning behind this design choice?

2. What is standard US regulation on the interior colour of the vehicle?

3. How many people can fit into a Humvee if one was to ignore the amount of seats present? The model itself has four seats, but a rather spacey rear compartment. Also, what are US Army regulations on this?

Thanks in advance!

I may be wrong on these as I'm in infantry so my Humvee experience is fairly limited, anyone who knows more feel free to point out what i messed up.

1. The reason for the extra room in the middle is for the turret gunner to have room to turn the turret and for people to put extra gear such as packs/chow boxes/extra fuel ect.

2.Not sure what the regulation is but most of the ones I've rode in interior matches whatever the outside color is and the seats are either brown or grey

3. Assuming no gear other than whats worn (flak/kevlar and weapons) you could probably fit around 8 into one if you absolutely had to but it would be insanely cramped. Regulations are 1 person per seat so 4 total.

my humvee is woodland camo, with a green interior and green cushion. tan humvees have a tan interior/green cushions too.

there is a lack of space. especially when you are trying to sleep.

I was looking for a seating chart but couldn't find anything. I would suggest PMing JP400 who seems to have charts and diagrams of any fighting vehicle.

As far as US regulations go the humvee is a multipurpose vehicle and can be modified for a variety of missions, the image I posted says 4 occupant seating and I believe that's how it works. Two in the front and two in the back with an optional fifth to use the turret. Not entirely sure though.

Extra space in the back also helps with removing casualties.

I had a quick trip in a Humvee when I was in Iraq a few years back and I have to confess, I thought it was pretty cramped when everyone is in full body armour etc. I remember thinking at the time that a UK army 110 Landrover would have a bigger capacity (but probably not as much protection).

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

The interior color really depends on the model of HMMWV (Humvee). However, with the kit you purchased, it doesn't look to be up-armored. With that, the inside of the doors will be the same color as the outside, same with the roof/cieling. The dash, seats, gunner platform, everything else will be O.D. green.

And Filbert has it spot on with the cramped seating in full body armor...spent a year standing in the turret in one of those. My drivers chest was literally in the steering wheel, poor guy.

Oh, and to answer question number 3, we don't allow people to ride in the bed if the humvee has one. So seating capacity is 2-4 (5 with gunner standing, if applicable).
