I am new to the site, so please forgive me if I screw this up, but I wanted to share my work in progress High Elves Army. They are inspired by Roman Legions for the colors and iconography. I am currently trying to get a 3000 point army together for an upcoming event at my local shop. I don't expect that this is an ideal army to battle with, as it started with the Island of Blood set my kids got me for Xmas, and then just expanded to include every model that appealed to me. Now, I'm trying to wrangle all of this into a cohesive force. I am also doing some mods utilizing Gamezone figures. I will be creating a Noble riding on the CMON Great Eagle as well, and I will post pictures as they come together.

Anywhere, here's where the army currently stands. All models still need a final bit of TLC, which I plan to do once everything is together.

If you edit your last post, copy all the image links (so you don't have to keep getting them from the gallery) and then you can go and paste them all into your first post.

Quick update: some new goodies from eBay today. I have also ordered the CMON Great Elf, which should be here in the next couple of days. My plan is to mount the seated High Elf Noble on top.

Any thoughts on what colour your dragon will be?

Hey Silver... right now, I'm leaning toward a bluish / green dragon with a yellowish underbelly. I want the armor to be dark and have it mirror the Dragon Princes scheme. I was originally thinking to go with a more red-toned dragon, but I think it might be too much. I've done a lot of image searches for dragons, so I found a couple I like. If you have any suggestions, I'm all ears.

You seem to have a lot of red/purple and silver in your main army, so something to break that up would be quite good... a white dragon could do that for you.

Hadn't considered white. I was looking at a sort of cool, steely gray dragon that had some interesting bands of color at one point. I think you are on to something... might want to look at that one again. I will definitely post some pix once I get started.

I love the color scheme you chose. Much different than the bright blue and white I always see around (which sadly includes mine as well as I'm not very creative). Keep it up. Eager to see the Ellyrian Reavers done as they're one of my fav High Elf models.

Just a few images that might interest you in relation to the dragon:


A white dragon with yellow belly and armour scales that use the same red as the rest of the army could work quite well, especially if you colour any armour the same colour as your regular soldiers.


Ignoring that this is a strange owl-dragon, the mottled ans speckled white does look good.

However, deviantArt is a great place for looking at models if you ever need inspiration.

Thanks, Silver. I realized that I hadn't put a lot of the images into the Scythic Legion gallery, so I've fixed that. You can see the weighted bases images there now.

Have you thought about heating the banner the eagle rider is holding and bending it around the banner pole a bit more to make it look like the eagle is just leaping off into the sky?

Sounds cool, but the thought of doing it kinda terrifies me. What is best to heat up the plastic without ruining it?

If you have a hot air gun, that would be ideal.

However, you can also try dipping in boiling water (though you need to be careful you don't leave fingerprints in the heated plastic or otherwise deform the plastic where you do not want to).

Theoretically you could try using a candle and hold the plastic above the flame (not directly in it or above it - slightly to one side so it is heated by the hot air). Though I would do that in a well ventilated area.

I would definately advise testing these methods out using some sprue or an unwanted bit of plastic first. And don't do it if you don't 100% want to

I have to say that the banner does look good as is - it is draped very well. However, I didn't know if you had considered it.

You would obviously have to remove the banner from the pole before you did this, as the pole would probably be quite easy to damage/deform if left attached.

Today, in the mail, the rest of the Gamezone figures arrived from the UK, so rather than paint, I did some more mods.



Spearman Command



More Spearman - I tried to vary the helmets and the plumes.



Only twelve more to go.

I think they look quite intimidating with their spears pointed forwards. Run ya right through without faltering a single step.

I do like the poses on the spearmen.

When I had a VC army I posed the spearmen (spearskeletons?) rippling their spears down to level at the front - kind of like this:



Also, have you considered splaying some spears out to cover the sides? I think it can look quite effective:
