Its taken 5 weeks but my Zuzzy Despoiled reaches mat finally arrived! Immediately set to work turning it from the grey latex sheet that it is into a red martian warzone! only problem i've encountered so far is paint being pulled off when i apply washes, i think i know what caused that tho, its possibly that i'm a little too heavy handed with me brushing, too impatient to let the paint dry fully or i forgot to scrub the mat down before hand in case of mould release! >.<

well that asside i'm totally made up with the look so far! ^_^

Looks pretty cool - get some more lights in the room to get a better picture though

And use the macro feature on the camera to get some close up shots of the surface if you can.

What is the smell like? Many people says the rubber smell hangs around for a long time.

Yeah there is a very distict rubber smell! also a very painty smell from all the acrylic on it!! lol

When you roll/fold that up all the paint is gonna crack and flake off

Dont plan on rolling it up but fortunately i did each layer very lightly, one step at a time. So the mat will still roll and not crack! go acrylic paints! woo! ^_^

RIGHT! wasnt totally happy with the purple so toned it down a bit and added more yellow to the mineral deposits! totally finished now! just need a matte spray varnish! ^_^

Definately looks better now.

What kind of rubber are we talking here?

Like an eraser?
or a tire?
or like a rubber mallet? (I.E. basically solid)

latex! about 1-2mm thick, extremely detailed (annoyingly cant get decent pics as puppy ate digi cam wire! >.< so made up with it tho, worth every penny and the wait! ^_^

one question, it can't be rolled up after being painted, can it?

Depends how you paint it, the Zuzzy guys say if you just use washes and dry brushing it can easily be rolled up and stored away again! The look i wanted required quite a bit of red so i dont think i'll risk rolling mine up again lol. gonna get a can of spray matte varnish for it tmrw for an extra layer of protection ^_^
