Hi!

Before get I stuck into assembling and modelling my IG army, I've decided to show you guys a couple of Guardsmen, and see what experienced modelers and players think of them. I've decided not to bother with shotguns... I'll just model my vets with "carbines", cut down versions of the standard lasgun, meaning that I'll be able to count them as either lasguns or shotguns depending on what I want at the time.

I'm also on the lookout for creative ideas and inspiration! Really need some advice on a potential paint scheme too... I was thinking maybe black fatigues and grey armour, with white camouflage to break everything up and reduce the "dull" factor.

Spoiler:
A semi-modeled infantry squad:

I removed the helmet aquilas and green-stuffed tactical rails instead, as I might add flip-down goggles or gear later.

As for the lasguns, I flattened the tops, moved the scopes, cut out the superior rails and removed any bayonets.

I also added a few little touches to represent their affinity for desert fighting, such as this guy's shawl:

Here are some Molle backpacks I ordered from The Assault Group... I really can't recommend them enough, great place to buy from.

Now the Las-SMG v2.0, for all my Sergeants (counts as pistol and CCW). I don't want them carrying swords into battle, and as they can't take lasguns anymore () I figured it'd suit the role, just like how Sergeants in WW2 were often armed with Thompsons, Owens, etc:

Thanks in advance for any advice!

It's not supposed to be pump-action... I was going more for a semi-auto look.

Now that you mention it though...

Somewhere, doing somthing, of very little intrest for others!

I love the custom lasgun but personally the shotgun is bit small. If you scaled it up slightly it would be great.

Would lengthening it be enough? I did want it to be thin, like most modern shotguns... you know, a weapon that you can maneuver with up close.

Yes lengthening it would personally make it look better.

I honestly never thought to do a lasgun conversion like that. Simple, but good looking.

I don't like the shotgun, though.

ssshhhhh! Its a secret!

I like the lasgun but the shotgun looks out of place. I've seen people cut the end of a flamer off and glueing it onto the front of a lasgun so that the ent of the flamer is the grip and the two pipes are the barrels.

The lasgun is a neat conversion, nice one. The foregrip on the shotgun just seems a bit too big though. Either trim the rest of it down less or somehow try to shrink the grip? Also (and this is probably a bit nit-picky) considering the size of the ejection port there doesn't appear to be an appropriate magazine anywhere on the thing

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

The shotgun was converted from the one a Scout Marine wields. I basically cut it to pieces and reassembled it.

Anyway, I figured that if you guys didn't like it, I'd replace it with a las-SMG (ie, a shortened lasgun)!
I reasoned that a las-SMG could count as either a lasgun or a shotgun, depending on the battle at hand... would that be legal?

The shotgun looks good but shouldn't the barrel extend past the grip?

Gonna have to echo most people here, I LOVE the lasgun. The shotgun is really meh. It looks too dinky.

las gun is great and yes it would be legal using it as both
and for the shotgun try making the barrel extend past the grip for this you could use part of the scout sinper barrel, like the silencer thing on the end of it.
overall good job

Thanks for all the kind words and constructive criticism guys! I really appreciate the feedback!

I'll probably ditch the shotty... not only does it look clunky, but I don't have many spare parts available to swap around in order to fix or replicate it, and it was more trouble than it's worth anyway. Submachine guns will be easier to convert, and more versatile rules-wise.

And unfortunately, I've encountered a problem with the scoped lasguns; it's really hard to position a Guardsman so that he's holding it correctly.
Not only are a Guardsman's eyes not high enough to reach the scope, but it also forces his entire head backwards.

I came up with a solution: attach the scope further forward, to the lasgun's superior cylindrical railing. While this solves the problem mentioned above, it doesn't look nearly as good, is harder to do, and makes the weapon more fragile.

I'll post pics tomorrow... gotta grab some sleep atm.

I love the lasgun. My only complaint is that the sight looks backwards. eg.:

Lasgun = A+

With the shotgun, if you are going for a full auto shotgun, I would make/find a waffle magazine and place that between the pump handle and the grip. It would make it look similar to current auto-shotguns like the USAS12.

I have a bunch of lasguns that look like yours. The ones whose barrels got broken off. Tht's what it looks like to me.I'd take a small piece of plastic rod and estend the barrel out a bit so it looks like you didn't just have a couple broken models and decided to make them all match....

sorry if i highjack this thread, followed it from the start, want to contribute my take on the shotgun theme :

used the standard lasgun as base and cut off most of the muzzle and then the lasgun mag... then i made a drum mag from scratch from a curtain hook...there are these small wheels attached to them... cut them in half...and made a space suitale for positioning on the place of the former lasgun mag...

thanks^^ i had a real good tie developing them... at first i thought flamers was the way to go but yu are stuck to far to less possible options to pose the arms...and its way cheaper to use the lasguns... you get them in each set in abundance...

Yeah I used flamers for my veteran guards in my PDF army but if I had known about your method I would have attempted to find a curtain hooky thing you used (unsure if I have them but saw them in Holland) would have looked better and been quicker/cheaper.

I thought about adding a mag, but then figured it'd be less recognisable as a shotgun. After seeing Viktor von Domm's models though, I might just reconsider.

After all, adding a mag would make sense.

I was always going to remove the muzzles; it fits in with the fluff behind my regiment (they hail from a dry, arid desert planet, and because of the harsh environmental conditions their lasguns are configured so that the focusing array is internal, and protected from the elements).

I might actually remove the remaining stubs, so that the barrel is completely flush with the forestock.

jordanis wrote:for your lasguns: cut off the batteries and BAM shotgun

Shotguns have to be visually distinctive though... I don't think removing the battery would be enough to make it distinguishable at a glance, especially for other players.
