I have been looking at the Librairian models, the powered armor ones and I have run in to trouble. I don't really like any of them except 2.
The forst one I like, have for years now is Ezekiel from the DA. I have always loved that mini and I have one that I could use but I need to strip him and I have never done that. My problem wiht him is to choose a robe color that will work well with the medium gray my Carcharodons will be.

The 2nd model I like is the Red Scorpion one, he is crazy expensive though. I could use the honor guard to go with my Captain or whatever but I dont want to file a ton of scorps off either.

I guess option 3 would be to convert one and here I am stuck. Maybe if some of you good Dakkanauts could show some of your libbys here we can all draw some inspiration from your works?

You could search forge world on ebay and there are some people on there selling the individual models you're after, you maybe able to pick up all the parts you need seperately or as a whole model, either way it'll be cheaper than buying the whole squad if you don't need them

Make one if there isn't something you like, sit down and browse through what people have done for inspiration. I too am looking at libbys and I don't see anything I like.

1st stop - Blogs.

http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2011/01/modeling-power-cables.html - great way of adding detail to a vanillla marine body

http://www.thewarstore.com/Warhammer40KBitz.html - Bitz store in the US.

http://masteroftheforge.com/ - cracking conversions here - and his tag cloud is pretty good for browsing ideas.

http://masteroftheforge.com/?s=librarian - Libby tags.

Will post up some ideas for a libby in due course.

Thanks for the tips folks. @Phayse, yeah I thought about the conversion path and that might be something I will get to. I guess I get to spend time browsing the internets some more

Gathering the Informations.

The Red Scorpions Librarian, quite frankly, is a 'must buy' for anyone who wants a good Librarian.

The only parts on him with Scorpion insignia is the weapon arm--and you don't need to actually use that.

Is it expensive to buy him and his Honor Guard just for that model? Yeah.
But the set also includes a Command Squad sprue, and the Honor Guard bits can fetch a pretty penny to a Red Scorpions player.

Grabbed the body from ebay in the wee hours. Cost me a couple of quid. Literally 2 quid and one or so more for postage. Probably turn out to be a couple of pounds more expensive than buying a premade libby, but not that much more, and this one will be mine.

The other thing I noticed?

There was enough eldar on UK Ebay to knock up a decent DA and waveserpent list for 50 quid, That's 30 DA, 3 WS and a farseer - needs a tweak or 37 to make it a real list.

Note to ebayers. Continue to set auctions to end when no one is awake, and I will become rabid for your sexy bits. <3

Man, that red scorpions librarian really is like the coolest one I've seen period. He makes Mephiston look like a punk. Then again... I've always thought the Mephiston model was really dumb.

This ones mine:

The pics are a little old, cause I changed the helmet a little bit and started some greenstuff on it and also the chest has guitar strings now instead of the copper wire. Also the Staff has different grip. I'll try to post some new pics soon.

Personally I love the new terminator librarian.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

I like the new Termmy Librarian as well but I need a good PA option. Looks Like I will either troll eBay or work on converting my own

I would say go for the Ezekiel one, if you are doing a gray scheme army, a deep red, white, or even a black robe would look great. It all depends on the overall scheme of your army. If Ezekiel looks bad ass to you, then use him!

Good news! A friend gave me his Raven wing sprue so I now have a cool head or 2 and some great power weapon/force sword plus odd bits.

Added to the BT upgrade sprue I have and I think I will be able to come up with something very cool. Now to check the Tutorials for magnetizing back packs and jump packs!

Well that is good news! I was going to suggest going with Ezekiel and removing all the Dark Angel Iconography. I have the same problem about the librarians, they all look like crap (except the one with the book and bo-staff), so I was going to use Ezekiel.

Here is my take on a conversion for a counts as librarian.

My particular modeling needs was for a more rustic been through the warp for a long time look.

He is fully magnetized (except shoulder pads) so I can field any current codex upgrade with him by just swapping out bits.

Click the picture below and it will take you to Flickr where you can find a larger image.

Take a look at some of the Grey Knight minis, too. My BA librarian is a GK terminator with some armswaps and some blood drops where the Inquisitorial seal was.

Here's mine. DA robed body, chopped shoulder pad psychic hood, BT shoulder pads, the book hanging from his hip under the sword ( not very well to see on the pic) is from the WHFB empire flagellants set, the rolled up scrolls are standard issue space marine stuff. The hand is from the sniper scouts, I think, might be the normal ones. Only a tiny bit of GS for a few cables going into his head and the horned skull on the front.

Edit: and here is the picture, I actually forgot to add it.

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

I believe that is the axe from the blood angels sanquine(sp?) guard boxed set.

If you click through to the Flickr set most of the bits are noted in the picture, just roll your mouse over them.

I still think the Space Hulk Libby is pretty sexy. Anyway, I have also become a fan of the SW Rune Priest, very tempted to try some conversion work to see if I can get him to work with other chapters.
