hey guys im looking to make some monowheel rough riders and im looking for some helpful ideas on how to do this.

the concept is that they are hi-tech thus the guys will have the forgeworld heads and such. im mostly in need of some advice on how to make the mono wheel.

firstly; im thinking about using 3 60mm titan bases with the center carefully cut out for the wheel. does any one have a better idea?

and secondly; for the seat im really not sure just yet but im sure something will pop up.

anyway id really appreciate peoples input into this as well as their trials and tribulations regarding similar projects.

I think the idea is great, monowheel rough riders is a novelty I'd really like to see. For the wheel I'd at least research the possibility to get some cheap toy cars with right size wheels to plunder. Seat and engine depends on what look you're after, I think both space marine scout bikes and ork bikerz are viable sources for bits.

Put your effort into building the first model awesomely and then cast the rest so you don't have to rebuild every one... Oh and forgeworld brass etched imperial eagles sounds like a must for this project.

i also want to make it as opposed to buying the shell. i cant help but think CD's may come into this at some point although they are far too big untouched.

I reckon the 80mm diameter wheel looks about right for a 40K seated figure, or you could pick a bigger one (105mm, perhaps) and do a standing figure -- this would be like a Segway monowheel.

You need a way to cut the hub just inside the rim. I don't think a standard circle cutter will do it, the plastic is fairly thick.

Has anyone got any ideas for that?

I would aim to make a good inside bit (engine and so on), cast that in resin, and use separate figures and wheels.

You could always use bangles. Most girls shops (such as Clarie's Accessories, or Next) should sell them in various sizes and widths.

One that is approximately 0.25-0.5 inches wide with a flat inner edge and a curved outer edge should probably be fine.

Stick the passanger/engine section from an SM bike inside and a few bits of tech around the inside of the wheel (perhaps some kind of inner rim) and you should be sorted.

wow the wheels look great. yeah how would you cut it? maybe i should cut it 'rough' then sand it down by hand.

does anyone have an idea for the inside of the monowheel? im going to start work on a prototype tomorrow and im still not sure about it...

It's Imperial so you need an engine something like the engines seen on the Dreadnaught, Land Raider and so on.

Fuel tank.
Seat
Dashboard
Armour?
Weapon mounts.
Everything fitted into some kind of chassis which sits on top of the inside of the wheel.

Do a few sketches on paper.

Not long ago I was reading a post where a lad changed his AoBR Orc helicopters into one wheeled bikes. He did an amazing job. I can't locate it in the search though.

I'm not the best with the search engine so maybe you'll have better luck.

I think the concept is awesome. Certainly better than those goophy looking atilla/hungarians on horseback. I look foward to seeing some pics of your progress!

a couple of concept pics should be coming up shortly. if anyone has any ideas for the inside of the wheel feel free to put them up here. hopefully once ive got the concept drawn up then we can bounce the idea around a little more.
