Thanks guys. As llama said in his own blog, not the job, it's the career. Just have to keep going. And, thus:

I will reboot the contest tomorrow, hopefully. Onwards...

Sorry to hear about the disappointment, pal. I hope you bounce back to form soon! Chin up and refocus.

The sister's tanks are the bomb man, serious muscle. They are really going to tower over the battlefield. Any tips on building those structures? Not sure how I'm going to mount the exorcist organ on the back of one of my Razorbacks. There isn't much room and it's really heavy.

Thanks all. Case, I used the wall pieces from cod and strengthened with a strip of 0.5mm styrene.

Anyway, let's re-kick-start this thing! I'm going to repost:

The Great Repurposing Contest

Please spread this around on your plogs! Thanks.

--------------

The contest theme:
Repurposing – that is taking a miniature from one system and remodelling, repainting or otherwise repurposing it for another. We all go through phases in our gaming, and often pretty love-hate with GW. The aim is to spur creativity and use what you have lying around to some other, more current purpose.

The rules:
The piece must be recognisably part of the system you are aiming for. Generic future soldiers used as guard wouldn’t cut it; with the addition of aquilae, they would (at least, at a basic level). You need to provide clear pictures of your base model and bits, indicating what system it is from, and explain what system you are repurposing it for. The more imaginative and creative your approach, the greater your overall chance of success. There is no limitation on what system you repurpose to and from; you can stay within the same manufacturer (for example, Spartan’s Dystopian Wars to Uncharted Seas) or entirely different (for example, an Urban War Viridian to WH40k Guardsman). Crossing manufacturers will, however, be rewarded.

Scoring:
A maximum score of 100 is possible. Ties will be broken by the judges (myself and Briancj). If the judges are deadlocked, I will call upon readers of this plog to vote. If THAT deadlocks, I'll declare a tie, and divide up the prizes appropriately.

Repurposing: Core Model. These points are not cumulative; imaginative use of bits from a range of manufacturers (or just random stuff) will count in your favour.
Core model is declared simply to be “for another system” - 0 points
Core model is from the same manufacturer – up to 10 points
Core model is from a different manufacturer – up to 15 points

Basing:
I love a good base. I’m not going to be shy in including that as a criterion. These points ARE cumulative.
Model is based – 0 points
Model is based in a way that repurposes other items – up to 10 points
Model is based in a way that adds narrative – up to 10 points

Modeling:
These points ARE cumulative. A focus on techniques and designs that are easy to copy/emulate will score more points, here. You're helping the masses make terrain. A unique entry might be something that makes the judges go 'ah-ha, that's a GREAT idea'. This is where you can score points for originality of design.
Entry shows a unique idea - 10 points
Entry is visually interesting - 10 points
Entry is visually distinct from the original Core Model- 10 points

Painting:
Points are not cumulative. Minimum three colors. Washes and highlights to qualify as well painted, at a minimum. Amazingly well painted is something that wows the judges. Roughly, painting scores will be as follows
Entry is painted to a basic standard - 10 points
Entry is well painted - 15 points
Entry s well painted and uses unusual techniques - 25
Entry is amazingly well painted - 35 points

-----------

Weight will be given to people who come up with UNIQUE, creative uses for things lying around in bits boxes!
You may not use creations, and as with all League competitions, show your work. Deadline for entries is. 23:59 gmt on October 31st. 2013. Judging will occur a few days later, over the weekend. There will be no extensions allowed, as you’ve got plenty of time and had a heads-up already.

Submit your "WiP" photograph ASAP here in The Ordo Bloggit. With your completed photograph, submit an explanation of what you’ve repurposed for.

The prizes:

Okay, so in keeping with the theme of the contest, the prize pool is stuff that you could repurpose to other systems. There's 4 to choose from:

Urban War Sabre CLAU

Wargods Heru archers (and more)

Confrontation Griffin Conscripts & Wolfen repentant 2

Scibor Sci-Fi Knight (Templar #6)

(Although doesn't come with scenic base)

Top 3, and a Rule of Cool prize (to be given to one entry for sheer coolness!). The prizes listed are not in order - first place, first choice, and so on. If there are many many entries I'm going to p provide more prizes.

And the very best of luck to you all!

We've already got some great entries started by Llamahead, ryanroberts and Viktor von Domm. Let's do this!

No idea what I'm entering but I'll get my thinking cap on and make a post about it as soon as I have something. I think I'll do something small and give it some real TLC.

Edit:
Came up with a shortlist of bits and miniatures which I'll submit as my first WIP below.

Before I make the final call and start though I have a couple of quick questions:
What if the miniature is not attached to or meant to be part of a game system?
Can we do more than one miniature? And if so, can they be on separate bases?

Here is the shortlisted bits and bobs.

@ Casey: as long as it moves clearly away from a particular game or clearly towards a game, that's the main thing. That's a mighty fine collection of bits there, too.

@s_l: thanks man! Really need to get some paint on them though.

Some great repurposing thus far - let's see even more folks!

Gotcha! Necromunda it is then, I'm going to do a Hired Gun and see how long it takes, if I'm quick I'll do a few of them.

I don't understand the following:

 inmygravenimage wrote:

Core model is declared simply to be “for another system” - 0 points

and...
Model is based in a way that repurposes other items – up to 10 points

And the problem with the following is that it discourages me from actually showing what I plan to do because if someone else sees it as a fun idea & wants to try something similar (and I'm suggesting no malice here), suddenly neither one of us gets the points for it being unique.
Entry shows a unique idea - 10 points

Right, I can answer these:
Core model is declared simply to be “for another system” - 0 points
>Simply saying, yes, it may look like a Dark Eldar but it's a Drow, honest.
I really don't think anyone would do this!

Model is based in a way that repurposes other items – up to 10 points
>Up to 10 additional points for basing the model using bits from another system(s)

>Entry shows a unique idea - 10 points
It's simply that if you think of an original or unusual use for something. I wouldn't expect someone to copy you directly, but if they adapted your idea, you'd get full credit and theirs would depend on how they went about it.

That help? Feel more encouraged? I want this to be inclusive, not exclusive, so if you feel the rules could/should be modified/clarified, please do say!

I'm now busy tinkering with that nelf to bring it up to standards with my latest works, but I suddenly realised, that one thing mirth be a problem - I'm entering this model as a studio work, as it'll be painted by Ish and to help spread the word about our studio a bit. If that's a problem you may just count it as unpainted =/

So, really looking forward to seeing what folk have come up with? Bit quiet round here, are folk getting contest burn-out?

I had a massive fight with the wife today about the amount of unholy, unbuilt, unpainted stuff, and indeed the painted on shelves. Anyone else been through this? We are tight for space but this is my sanity/release. I'm not getting much gaming done either - which turns into a self-fulfilling prophecy, because then why do I need all this stuff?

Sorry, just venting.

Marriage. Sigh.

Well, my wife allowed me more than possibly I am actually deserving, but she always brags around to make me finish my projects. But often starting new stuff has its meteors for me too...which she doesn't get at all... And storage or better the chaos in the living room is of capital interest to her...and often yelling because of said status..
I know your position...

I hide most of my stuff in chests or cases or unmarked boxes. That way neither of us knows how much unpainted crap I have...

I sort of have that issue I love to paint but dont have much time to play and have a ton of stuff and not much room, so I've started painting stuff up and selling my older stuff on ebay to fund new projects.

Has been working well so far, although it is a bid sad seeing it go.

Wow I said stuff a lot of times

My entry is underway, promise! Need to go get more glue though, I'll take pictures when I've done something substantial. The bases are giving me nightmares, I want them to be usable in games and match the rest of my 'munda so it's a struggle to make them interesting enough.
