Hello all

So I looking to get back into fantasy, I have really played any since 6th ed, and back then I played Brits/Empire. I have always liked the feel behind the dwarfs and I decide with my return to fantasy in 8th I would give them a go.

I was just wonder what units, I need to go for in terms of getting a solid core for my little bearded drinkers.

I was thinking about picking up two of the Dwarf Battalions and going from there, or is that a terrible plan?

Hi mate,

2 boxes should get you around 1500 points. Although imo youre better off making a couple of lists and getting the units you need. Defo need 50 warriors but unsure about the 32 odd gunners.

Personally I dont think BS shooting is worth it and tend to use 4 warmachines.

If you can get 50 warriors, 25 special choice hammerers/ironbreakers a cannon and grudge thrower, a bsb/runemith over the 2 boxes, it may cost you like £30 more.

Cool, thanks for the advice.

I will look into getting the stuff on its own, I am just trying to build this army as cheaply as I can.

Try and get a BFSP dwarf set to go along with your 2 battalions.

You get 32 warriors in each battalion, make 32 as great weapon wielding warriors and convert the other 32 into hammereres see this link:
http://www.bugmansbrewery.com/topic/20562-a-converters-guide-to-plastic-hammerers/
These hammerers also can double as great weapon warriors when you need them to be.

With the Battle for Skull Pass you will also get some shield warriors you can use as filler if you need too buff units up just put them in the back.

You also get 10 thunderers in the BFSP so use the 32 you would get in each battalion to make that 20 then use the other 22 as great weapon quarrellers

In the BFSP set you also get a cannon and a pony cart which you can convert a cannon or organ gun too with the left over bitz in the battalion:
http://www.bugmansbrewery.com/topic/31388-dwarf-cannonorgan-gun-mount/
http://www.bugmansbrewery.com/topic/29204-the-army-of-droum-peak/page__p__297469__fromsearch__1#entry297469 - Scroll down a bit about 60% of the way down and you'll see it.

So for war machines you should have 2 Organ Guns and 2 Cannons

The dragon slayer that comes in the BFSP set is actually pretty good at hanging back with your warmachines and protecting them. Any light cavalry or units that turn up on table edges will get tarpitted 1-2 turns by this guy because of his high WS and T.

The Thane in the BFSP makes a great Runesmith/Runelord as a shield is a cheap investment for a RS/RL, all you really need up to like 1.5k maybe even 2k is the Rune Smith/Lord and a BSB, I really like GWs bsb model but it's special order they don't carry it in stores but it is worth the 1-2 week wait.

You will also get miners in your BFSP set, 8 of them, you can use them as intended or stick them in warriors blocks as filler.

So there you go a solid army...

76 warriors (32 hammerers can double as warriors) or 82 with miners
22 quarrellers-work great as rangers
20 Thunderers-These guys are cool, Organ Guns generally do the job cheaper
2 Organ Guns
2 Cannons
Runesmith/Lord
BSB
Dragon Slayer

Solid start, I highly recommend picking up a Grudge Thrower as well they are the best thing in our army book when runed up. I took down 18 of my buddies blood letters even with the 5+ ward save before he reached my warrior lines, GW warriors and hammerers are the next best thing.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Are you concerned with things being GW official models?
Because if not, mantic have some pretty good deals on Dwarves.
http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Dwarfs/Dwarf-Army-Set/Product/Dwarf-Army-Set-85-Figures.html

They are taller and broader than GW Dwarves, and they have a different facial and beard style, but they are cheap, plastic, and look good in regiments. You can get a plastic "hammerer" regiment for a fraction of the cost of GW's metals.

There are quite a few old WD that had LOTS of dwarf tactics.
As well as being a strong defence army with guns and canons.
