Search for spAce marine assault warhammer nib. It is the old starter with 5 marines and 8 genestealers for super cheap. Picked up one for myself. There are a bunch up right now. Sorry I can't post a link from my phone, but I promise you it is well worth it. Just trying to help you guys save a lil cash.

Old skool Genestealers, too!

May need to use my ebay bucks on one.

At my computer now, you get 8 old school genestealers, 4 marines with bolters, a marine with a missle launcher, a starter paintbrush (would ge good for basecoats and whatnot), a small red die, some small starter citadel paints (might come in handy someday), and a little plastic trey to keep the paints in (would work OK as a mixing tray for paints I think).

Cant find anything in the set that I wouldnt someday use, and for less than 10 bucks it cant be beat. Espcialy considering that 8 genestealers would put ya back 30 bucks, and its a good way for space marine players to get some extra missle launchers since they are all the rage these days.

Not sure if this wasnt just a simple mix up, but a buddy of mine placed 2 orders for these. 1 order was for 2 of these sets, the other order was for 8 more. He recieved 2 tracking numbers from the seller, and in each box he only got 1 box. So as of now the seller owes him 8 sets. He sent the seller a message to try and clear up the issue. I wouldnt be suprised, based on the sellers feedback score, if this doesnt turn out to be just a simple error. Hopefuly your orders arent mesed up as well. I recieved my set super fast and in perfect condition.

If I remember correctly GW made a push with these sets to try and target audiences who were brand new to wargaming, and who may have never set foot in a gaming store. I used to work retail at a video game and movie rental store, and we got a shipment of these in. When you get your set you will see in the small rulebook it is specificaly catered to those who have never played anything before. It even gives you terrain setups and tells you to use paper cups, books, and soda cans as terrain. Kinda funny looking at pics of space marines fighting genestealers on a pile of books. A far stretch fom any pictures you would see today.

Anyways, I would say that the sets didnt sell too well, so there are proably warehouses full of these things that retailers coulnt push. I would imagine that this guy came across a boat load of them and bought them in bulk for resale on the internets. When I worked at the retail store, it wasnt long until these were in the bargain bin. Noone bought any of them, so I was waiting on them to get the 99 cent sticker put on them. I was planning on buying them out, but then one day I showed up and they were all gone. I think they retailed for like 25 bucks back in the day.

Thanks for the info, Jburch; it's a great deal, even for old, single pose-models. I can always find a use for 10 more tac-marines (I bought 2 sets) and I'm sure I can keep or trade the genestealers to a 'nid player.

I was figuring these were just made to get rid of old stock. It wasn't long after this that GW stopped selling the tiny pots of paint from these sorts of starter sets, and the sculpts are from the early 90s (hell, the Genestealer is the same from the 1989 Space Hulk) so I can just imagine this was a somewhat convenient way to sell off old crap. A deal's a deal though!

Just an addendum though, I think the old space hulk genestealers were molded with a dark blue plastic. These genestealers are molded with a bright purple plastic, and the marines are molded in baby blue plastic. Nothing that cant be primered over, but I believe that these models were produced specificaly for this set, not just stuff to relieve inventory. The above pics are the models however, just the wrong color

The date code on the sprue is 1996 for the genestealers and 1993 on the SM. Just got mine in today great deal.Wish I had money to buy more.

Well I now own more of these sets than I ever intended to, and I am now out $40, so thanks, kinda ;-)

I got my 5 boxes today. 25 space marines, 40 genestealers, 5 decent brushes, and a bunch of dried out paint for $31. Not bad. There's also a book to play a "Quick-Start" game of 40k.

The space marines are very static. The bolter marines are identical. The bases and marines are all blue.




The genestealers are two to a sprue. Eight models, of two designs. All of them are purple plastic.



And the dried out paint with the citadel brush and red die. I'll use the brush!

Most of the paint I got in the one I ordered was fine. Only 2 were dried out.

My paint wasn't completely dry, but there's no way in hell I'm using 10+ year old paint on one of my models.
