Its nice to be ambitious

GW website have tons of miniature painted and photographed.
Take a look around and use them as example.

Set goals of how you want to paint something , and paint it.
Doesnt look the same? figure out why. Thats how we improve.

Painting is a form of art , even if its painting miniatures.

What ever you can come up with just give it a shot. Even if you mess up you can learn from mistakes.

If you arnt sure about painting something try it on metal minis , always strip and redo.

Indeed, you can even buy some of those cheap plastic army men and tanks to test out new techniques on.

As for painting suggestions for this one. Maybe something to go with the rest of your army?

Well if your painting it with the intention of entering it into competitions then you HAVE to go crazy on the paintjob simply because its an Eldar vehicle. And by crazy I mean 1 of 2 styles.

Crazy - there is color galore and neat patterns that remind others of a Harlequin army. Those get good points just because.
Crazy - everything is subtle and just flows, like Tolkien elves do. This style gets good points because its not OTT and the longer you look at it the more you find.

Both are hard to pull off but come with big +s from judges

Give the WS a standard paint job, but make each spirit stone glow seperately.

That would give you some mega props for technical work.

Yes, but with a little more specificity

I can't do glow effects, so I think they look awesome when other people do it.

Love the sound of that, but what do you mean by that, can you give an example????

What you mean glow serperatly, do you mean give each one a different colour glow?

Atleast its not another DP thread i guess.

To be honest, i dont see a point in only using 6 colours.
If your entering a competition you really want to not limit yourself at any point.
6 different colours will just about get the gems painted.

since its a typical elar grav, you have lots of flat surfaces to play with.
Some nice freehand would help remove the boring flat areas and should boost your painting score at the same time.

I just think you have to drop the 6 colour limit 1st otherwise it wont go anywhere.

Give them all the same color, but add a glow effect around each stone. Where two glow effects overlap, add in secondary shadows and brighter areas.

Feforfar have you ever considered just taking a paint scheme from Gamesworkshop and try to paint your stuff as close as you can to it?
It doesnt have to end up as good , but thats how you can learn fast, as well as post it for others to see and help you with.

Making 7 threads asking for every tiny step while not painting will not help you at all.

THIS is why people think you are just trolling instead of trying to get things done.

Nike however had a very different meaning to this phrase

But yea, luna really did hit the nail on the head.
You need to just get on and paint it.
Otherwise your simply asking questions without knowing the outcome of how it could have been painted.

Feforfar, it'd hep if you actually attached the image files, rather than a html page that doesn't even show the picture. (Sure, its a link to facebook ,but downloading it locally means it doesn't show up when we look at it)

You need to start listening to advice, often I've seen you ask for advice, get it and then disregard it.

I looked at the images in your gallery and they're quite good.

If you're looking for general ideas here's what comes to my mind:
- swirling fire: with an emphases on the 'swirling part. You could stick to your 6 color limit, and focus on the blending
- leaf pattern: not camo, but actual leaves, like you would see on the forest floor on in the forest canopy
- star view: this ones been done before, but it looks great when done right
- ocean waves: I'm think stylize like in the "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" painting, maybe some eldaresque sea monsters popping out

Sure heres a perfect example of what I meant. Its not painted but hopefully will give you an idea of what I mean by flowing. If your going the Tolkien route, it has to be subtle, organic and flowing like the work on this titan. (link to site)

And I think on the glowing he means that make sure every stone on your WS glows on its own basically. That would look cool. I agree with Biccat, Ive tried glow effects and it looks OK at best, so anytime someone does it and it looks good I like it

Ok Ill try to explain and show some pictures to explain better. Elves/Eldar tend to do things in flowing lines that almost sweep in motion instead of just strait lines. Example heres a few buildings

See how the arches just flow into the next? Its not a big ol square where you can easily tell where one starts and the other stops. Its also simple but full of detail.
Does that help at all? You could try the same in the style you paint your WS.

Not all Austrailians are this thick, I swear.

Heed peoples advice dude god damn, every single thing ive seen you post is a question about a technique that you never try, and then you ask a question about the advice (wich is straight forward at worst) witch results in a gak fight gah, do some serious painting while useing the advice given, when it doesnt work come back with more guestions.

I my self have tried to help you out on most of your threads but seriously if you cant understand simple advice maybe this isnt the hobby for you.

Looks promising from the picture and you're on the right track for the glow effect. Start off dark and get progressively bright towards the center.

Thx, and I will not make it lookit got caught by the orks, I was acctually thinkinga bout mounting it on a base, making it look like it was coming into land, if you get what i mean. So than i would make a base of water coming up about an inch!

It might get frustrating at times as far as helping people on a forum goes. Just remember he is a bit young and just because he didnt get what I meant by flowing doesnt mean hes thick. Take a couple deep breaths and chill a bit, smoke a J with MonsterRain or something and then come back calm and collected

Fff - Glad you got what I meant
