My WS WIP

(Advice only, no arguing, im prepared to listen now )
I was thinking of making the gems blue and the Weapons Hot Pink.
I know people are going to ask, "Why HOT PINK"? and my answer is, I dont know.
And I have painted inside liche purple, going to stipple it with white.

Too early to tell what final outcome would ook like, keep going.
Really try and blend those stippled areas into the black along the edges, right now the contrast is to sharp, needs to be more gradual.

Would have been a good idea to listen to all the people telling you to not make yet another thread, and just update the other one you have open regarding the same model.

Well its an interesting start. Like Atra said, its too early to begin giving advice because there is so much work left to be done on the model. The colors go nicely together, but I dont have advice at the moment for you.

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress
800 points of unassembled Urban themed Imperial Guard
650 points of my do-it-yourself Tempest Guard
675 points of Commoraghs finest!

Hey Feforfar,
Before you go painting the weapons Hot Pink (*shudders*), check out this link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_scheme

You honestly want to start winning local painting competitions? It all comes down to composition. Using color balances and harmonies to make the piece pleasing to the eye will help greatly! You wanted to limit yourself to 6 colors originally. Find a complimentary scheme, say blue and orange, and just stick with those colors. Mix the colors together and get a smooth blend on the panels, the embellishments, etc. There's plenty of tutorials out there too, read up on them, practice practice practice, and you'll get better.

Oh, and as for stippling white for a glowing effect in the recesses? Don't do it. It won't look right. As I said, get a nice blend going from a bright, crisp white in the recesses, then gradually work out to purple. Hell, I'd even blend the Purple into the black for a true glow.

Good luck and keep painting (and stick to one thread/project, but that's another story)
Granesh

I would but I dont know how to sorry.
And I like the advice but I think I want to stick with the white in the lines, though I will blend the stipple into the black.
Ill post more images up when I get my camera fixed.

It's easy. Go to the old thread and hit reply instead of creating an entirely new topic. I'm sure you've managed it before.

You should probably try to have the areas completely stippled...i dunno it looks kinda unfinished with those huge black areas. Also you should try to tone down the stippling seems way too bright. Try to highlight that purple too. You also I don't think painting the weapons bright pink would be a good idea....

-Also it seems you have problems with posts. Please think before you start another topic, you've done the same thing with your daemon prince.

Hmmm, I don't like the execution. I'm not sure about the idea behind it either. However to be positive and not whiney I will make a few suggestions if you are going to continue with the scheme.

1: I love the white lining, it's a great way to show of the Sepent field, however I think you ought to make the purple edging more diffuse. The hard edges on the purple takes away from the white glow, especially as the brown is diffused.

2: I would look at taking the spines off and removing the black areas on the points of the nose, as they lend an unfinished look.

3: Maybe look at changing the colour on your engine intakes. I did the same with my Eldar, and it wasn't until it was suggested by a friend that I changed them. Once I did it made them stand out. It makes a really big difference, maybe you could look at doing the white/purple scheme but that is upto you.

4: I can't tell whether you have or not but consider black lining the rest of the vehicle as it will help with panel separation, and give the vehicle more shape.

I am really sorry if this come across a bit negative, but I don't get what you are trying to achieve.

To be honest, I dont know what I'm trying to achieve, I just randomly choose 6 colours (a bit of a challenge) - purple, black, white, orange, blue and pink.
May I ask what you mean by making it diffuse?
mmhm, I will try the white and purple on the engine intakes.
And may I ask what you mean by making it black lining the rest of the vehicle?
And It didn't come out negative, it actually gave me a few options to put towards the job, thanks for the advice

You know all pee taking aside I realy like it . Carry on with the white linning and do the weapons white and it will look realy nice . I would try some glazes over the stippled areas just so smooth them out and give the colour depth . Good start well done !

See what you can archive when you listen !

I'm glad that you took the crit positively. Blending the purple may be a better way of explaining my comment, as the lines you have currently are very hard and spoils the effect. By making the purple blend in you will make the glow style effect work better.

As for the black lining, I mean that you meed to do to the rest of the vehicle with black as you have done with white around the lower parts of the vehicle. Have a look at my eldar gallery for examples. I look forward to seeing how this evolves. Its been a long time since I dived into painting with very little planning, but something cool always comes from trying new stuff out ;-)

I will try the black lining, I did that orange stippling effect on the bottom of the WS. And how would I blend the purple?

I would use a glaze made by watering the paint down till its as thin as ink then give it a wash around were you want it to blend then a thinner wash next to it so the purple looks like its blending with the orange but the tone of it still shows through and you can still make out the stippleing .

So its basicly putting a purple ink next to the thick purple?

Yeah then another thinner ink next to that . you want glaze it tho so the ink dost pool in the cracks .think of it as a purple filter over the orange .

I'm still trying to establish what a glaze is

same as a wash .but wiyh the wash ur looking to let the paint settel into cracks and stuff
with a glaze your useing a thin coat of paint to change the underlying colour but still let it come through
