Morrowind is probably one of my favourite if not my favourite game of all time. Its magical.

Bold statement I agree considering its release in 2002 and what games followed it but it rings true.
Therefore for anyone who missed out on one of the best RPGs ever made I present to thee a MW 2011 guide.
Heres what you'll need:

A copy of Morrowind: Game of the Year addition. I purchased mine for €9.99 (total bargain) and I think it is available via Steam.
You should not needed the "latest" patch if you have goty but if for some reason you do it can be found here:
http://www.bethsoft.com/downloads_01.html

That will get you to version 1.6.1820.

I then recommend the following mods to upgrade the gfx and effects within the game (there are literally hundreds of mods out there, some good, some gak but these are the ones Im running with zero issues):

There is a new mod/project that has been released called the MW 2011 upgrade mod.
It turns MW into this basically (video)

However I could not get it working due to DX errors.

So I settled on this instead:

Morrowind visual pack:
http://elderscrolls.filefront.com/file/Morrowind_Visual_Pack_Combined;56241

This guy btb then has a seriously excellent list of mods and links to download sites for them:

http://btb2.free.fr/morrowind.html

The ones I strongly recommend are:
Better heads, clothes, bodies
darknuts armor and weapon textures

A few other mods that are worth it include:
Bitter coast sounds which add atmospheric sounds to regions and town sounds which enhnace the sound in tows and cities (ambient talking etc).

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=7440

To make travelling a little less time consuming since Morrowinds map is truely enormous get these:

http://elderscrolls.filefront.com/file/All_Boats_Ports;56200

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=2435

And finally you will need to do some registry tweaking to get it to play at your monitor resolution. But dont worry if I managed to do it, then there is no doubt you can too.

First open regdit
Navigate to:
h_key_localmachine -> software -> wow6432node -> Bethesda -> Morrowind.
Then find the screen height and screen depth ebntries and set them to whatever res you want. I have mine at 1920x1020.
Save and exit.

All the mods have self extractors and instuctions on where to save the files. You'll know if they have enabled by opening the MW launcher and clicking on "data". You'll see on the left column a list of the mods. Check the box beside each to enable them and load up.
Dont be afriad to get more mods if you like, most have well written code and warnings re: compatability issues.
Dont like the music in MW? get a mod
The weather annoys you? get a mod
Want better weapons? get a mod
The list is endless.

If you do all of that you can have MW running like this and life wont be so pointless:

Enjoy

I always thought bethesda's best work was always Fallout 3 and Fallout:New Vegas, it got rid of all my frustrations with oblivion (better main quest, guards aren't all knowing, better combat, etc).

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Did you really have to quote the entire OP cheesecat?

And I loved Morrowind, though I preferred Oblivion in many ways. Just a shame the 360 version cannot have access to all the PC mods.
