I've noticed an increased amount of Tau bashing in some threads floating around on Dakka. I'm somewhat befuddled at the attention they are garnering. Most of the loathing centers around their fluff or lack of importance in the 40K universe. I can understand those points of view to an extent. Long term (very long term based on GW speed) I think Tau can add some much needed alternative options for what is considered "good" in 40K.

So, what say you.

Should they go away quietly?
Do you like them?
Does the Emperium need a challenger for what is right?
Would you start a Tau army with a better codex?
Do you like green eggs and ham?

What do you mean lately?

There was a bit of spike in anti-Tau threads when Warseer went down, but I expect at least one a month here.

I like Tau, they are my favorite race/army in 40k.

At times, I find the anti-Tau threads humorous, and try to avoid the obvious troll bait threads.

On the dark reaches of the internet, there is only fluff-war.

"Tau bashing" isn't the same as "trying to correct misconceived notions about events that have happened concerning the Tau".

I don't think many people really hate the Tau as an army, they just don't like this idea that many Tau players have of the Tau being some unstoppable military juggernaut which is completely impervious to the Imperial warmachine.

Tau dont' intersect very fluidly with the rest of the 40 universe, which was the intention, as they, like the Necrons and Tyranids, are from a different time/place than the Eldar/Chaos/Imperium tango.

The tau have also rarely been fun to play against. Jump shoot jump, lots of tricks, complicated rules... people get easily annoyed at stuff like that.

Add in that they haven't been a solid tourney army since 5th edition came out, and you end up with a fan based that's pretty fractured.

There is no constant Tau bashing. When a thread comes up that may imply the Tau are inferior to anything or aren't perfect, it's hailed by the Tau fanbois as 'bashing' when in actual fact, many people are putting up reasoned arguments that people like Kroothawk ignore because they have nothing to counter them with.

Take for example the sterilization. Many Tau players decried the notion as an assumption and speculation but not confirmed fact so dismissed it. Then a person by the name of Redscare provided quotes to confirm this. It was ignored and Tau players didn't utter a word about it again.

Man, tau, they're just lame.

I don't think they are lame, but that's my opinion. I'm thinking of picking them up again. I used to rock them in T'au colors, played three 850 pts games with them, of which I won all three. It's a really nice army to play with actually.

I like them, they're an altenrative "good guy" army to eldar or imperials, I also like their asthetic. No, I do not like green eggs and ham.

I dont hate the Tau

I LOVE he Tau, iv beat them 12 games straight now.

But they do need some love in there new codex.
Not sure what they need but they need it.

Even the battlesuits are blockier and more unwieldy that most anime mecha are designed.

Nothing in 40K is original to be honest.

Some people just don't like the idea that the Tau may not be the Gallant to the rest of the universe's Goofus.

I think they should stay.
I like them. The battlesuits, marker lights, and auxiliaries are neat. Don't really like the vehicles.
I think every race defines their own "what is right". I want to see what happens when the Tau start encountering Chaos.
I'd consider it for a kill team, but not a proper army. Already too wrapped up with other armies.

If you play Imperium forces you are more likely to be less favorable towards Tau.
If you play Xeno forces you are more favorable towards Tau.

Thoughts?

Maybe its not Tau hating but Imperium preservation-ism?

I know what you mean. I often see Eldar players, DE players, and Nid players defending them, and agreeing that they are probably the least-evil race in WH40K. It is usually Ork players and Imperial players that feel the need to bash everything else. Cron players and Chaos don't seem to care. Just what I've noticed, anyways.

I dont play Tau but I fight them alot.

But I must be a Xeno.

Because I kind of like the Tau.

I just need them to get a new Codex as I have a few friends that play them and they lose games.....ALOT!

The Tau bashing is constant. Every couple of weeks someone starts a thread like "Is there racism in the Tau Empire" or "BT versus the Tau Empire" then spouts the kind of rubbish like you have above about the sterilization.

No-one does this to any other faction in 40K.

The kind of points that come up again and again, like the "sterilization programme" are bs if you look at the original sources. At worst, they are vague murmurings of IoM propaganda, without any real validity.

If you look at the origins of the Tau, they were made to be a "nice" faction, which a lot of small minded teenagers dislike, since they are not well educated enough to understand the principle of contrast creating dramatic tension.
