OK, so some of you might have already taken a look at my "Fluff Marines" thread, where I explained that my 40k group and I are revising our respective Codexes a little in order to bring our games a little closer to the 40k literature we all know and love. I mentioned that I'd be touching up the Imperial Guard codex after I'd sorted out the Marines... so here it is.
Below (in order of appearance) are profile sheets detailing the IG units I've tinkered with the most, as well as a miscellaneous sheet with some of the more obscure changes that weren't worth an individual page, and a "stats and rules" sheet detailing any modified weaponry and custom rules/wargear used by IG units.
Unlike the Marines in my previous thread, only a few Guard troops have had their stats changed in any significant way... most are only granted a couple of extra weapon choices, or some minor functionality changes. It's a big universe out there, and I wanted to represent that by opening up a few more options. Nothing as drastic as what I did last time, as we've been using Guardsmen as a control group of sorts, but hopefully the changes will liven things up a little.
Anyway, tell me what you think so far! Any unforeseen complications or balancing side-effects that you can make out? Typos? Overpowered? Any criticisms, suggestions, or advice at all? Let me know if you see anything out of whack!
Ok, so the following squads will replace their counterparts within Imperial Guard armies.
They can take whichever transport options are allowed in the IG codex, and all unmodified weapon and wargear profiles are from the IG codex too.
Note that the artwork isn't mine!!!
Ogryn Squad:
Stormtrooper Squad:
Conscript Squad:
Veteran Squad:
Penal Squad:
Rough Rider Squad:
Miscellaneous Changes:
Custom Weapon Stats and Wargear/Special Rules:
We'll be applying these modified weapon profiles to every faction that uses them (if applicable), so we'll be shifting around point costs and stuff for other armies too:
Many of the changes above aren't strictly fluff-based, but instead are intended to allow greater degrees of customisation, or breath new life into a sub-par unit. I also realise that most of the changes are improvements of some kind, but I've tried to compensate wherever possible. Still, constructive criticism will be appreciated!
So, what do you think? Would you mind playing with or against IG using these rules?

I love the Storm Trooper changes. They're my favorite units by far in the dex and I agree that if they're the most elite soldiers in our army, their equipment and stat line should mirror that but I think hellguns are a slang term for Hot-Shot Lasguns, oh well =p. As far as the vox allocation goes, I actually remember when I read Rebel Winter that the commanders didn't burden themselves by carrying them, they designated a trooper to be the communications man. It's looking good to me, man, play test it and see how it goes!

Carapace. My bad, it's supposed to be 4+... I'll fix that ASAP.
@SoliderSnake: Thanks man, I wasn't sure whether or not to improve them so much. And I'm pretty sure Hellguns are separate weapons... I know that Inquisitorial Stormtroopers still use Hellguns, and they have separate articles on Lexicanum. I'll find you a link.
EDIT: Hot-Shots and Hellguns. As far as I can tell, the two are entirely different weapons, but the Hot-Shot Lasgun is now standard-issue for non-Inquisitorial Stormtroopers?

They strike me as being functionally different though.
The Hot-Shot appears to be a supercharged variant of the standard semi-auto Lasgun... same stopping power and fire-rate, but with the ability to penetrate anything up to and including Power Armour.
The Hellgun on the other hand is described as having a much, much higher rate of fire than a Lasgun, with a selective fire mechanism (semi or full-auto), and greater stopping power and armour penetration capabilities (though nowhere near as penetrating as a Hot-Shot las-beam).

Hmmm, I see where you're coming from. you're right, in Dawn of War, Kasrkin hellguns fired at a much faster rate. But in the books, lasguns are able to be fired in full-auto.

I really like this. The variability in conscripts is nice.
Only criticism I can think of is the guardsmen not having CCW standard. A large knife is cheaper to produce than a laspistol, and they already have lasguns, plus no soldier today would deploy without their knife. Allow them to choose between the two for a 1 or 2 pt difference, CCW being the cheaper.
Other than that, I love this list! Great work!

not a fan of the ogryn change. only 2 wounds! they are big muscular creatures taht can take a beating. I do like the point decrease though. I understand that a point decrease means something has to give somewhere, but, not wounds. I do like the idea of a heavy flamer. no chainsword or close combat upgrade. they just stop firing the ripper gun and use it as a club.
Why the point increase in Yarrick?

A Chainsword allows the wielder to re-roll failed to-wound rolls in melee.

With regards to the wound reduction on Ogryns I have to ask, is that really necessary?? There are many HQ units that are CC powerhouses, for example say a Seer Squad? Ogryns are hard pressed to take the fight to units like that as it is? I'm not the most experienced when it comes to table top so if anyone can present a more experienced view please do.
Fan of your work otherwise. ^_^

Oh my bad man I didn't recheck it there. BTW thanks for FINALLY bringing up the Storm Trooper War Gear issue. I weep every time I look at the date sheet for STs, they're some of my fave units in the lore and tbh I really thing they're way to underpowered for their point cost especially considered what they're meant to overcome and do for an I.G army: Provide a sharp if not the sharpest spear tip to attack critical points of an opposing force without relying on a Sentinal Squadron or a parked Lemun Russ. ¬_¬''

Hmm it seems Intresting, like the storm trooper rules and the bolt weapons new effectiveness, Except for the hell gun/hot shot las gun difference, (aren't they the same thing?). But why did you remove the option to give veterans 3 special weapons, they do have a tendency to "aquire" specilized weapons for missions after all.
Other then that and the weakend penal legion It looks good.
In respone to the debate on hotshot vs hell guns:
"Hell guns are modified las guns that use the powerful hot shot power pack sometimes used by snipers," (codex imperial guard 5th ed. on storm troopers).
It was confusing to me as well: such as boltgun and bolter in the White dwarf blood angels codex

I took another look at the stormtroopers,
1. you uped the price and took away the marine killer,
2. the sargent only has 1 attack (typo?)
3. people probaly fork out 22pts for a guy that costed 16 in the old version,
If you have a reason for thier changes, please tell
Thank you

Veterans have fluff where they can overload their lasguns and use them to crack armor. Perhaps represent that by giving them krak grenades as standard?
Also, giving sergeants only one attack means the cost of PW and PF should be lower.
Otherwise, most of the changes are good. Always wanted the Chainsword to actually do something.

2. Nah, it's not a typo. I wanted to equalise Sergeants with the troops they lead. Other Sergeants have the same attacks as well.
3. Yeah, I just lowered their cost. The changes are explained as notes on the last sheet, the "Stats and Rules" one.

I think that the ST's statline should be:
Storm Trooper:
WS: 4
BS: 4
S: 3
T: 3
W: 1
I: 4
A: 1
Ld: 8
SV: 4+
Storm Trooper Sgt.:
WS: 4
BS: 4
S: 3
T: 3
W: 1
I: 4
A: 2
Ld: 9
SV: 4+
They're considered the best troops in the guard(I say troops, but not meaning in a FOC way).
And I know people will argue that they shouldn't have the same WS as marines, because of the extended training the marines have. I present 2 points:
1. Storm trooper training starts at a very young age, so it makes more sense that they have a higher WS than a guardsman, who doesn't get nearly that much training.
2. Celestians (4th ed. C:WH) have the same WS as marines, but are humans, just like the ST's.
Not to mention that you get way more for less with the Celestians. +1 to ld, a 3+ sv, and faith points. All for 13 points.
